GreenWaste is a locally based and privately owned company dedicated to the development of innovative and cost-effective solutions to address the everyday environmental challenges related to solid waste. We are excited to bring our unique suite of expertise and facilities to collect and process materials discarded by businesses and residents of multi-unit complexes in Palo Alto. 3 ZERO WASTE PALO ALTO Palo Alto has a goal of Zero Waste to landfills by Zero Waste goes beyond recycling by taking a whole systems approach to managing the flow of resources through society. It emulates natural systems, where all outputs are an input for another process. To achieve this goal, the entire community will need to work together and play an active role. The diagram below illustrates components of a Zero Waste System. 11 Annual On-Call Clean-Up Programs CLEAN-UP DAY (BUSINESSES AND MULTI-UNIT COMPLEXES) Businesses and multi-unit complex property managers are encouraged to seek reuse options for all reusable items prior to scheduling this service. Features: garbage day, for the collection of: Up to four (4) bulky items (e.g., furniture, mattresses, appliances) Excess containerized recyclables and yard trimmings (container will not be returned) City-established rates. BUSINESS RECYCLING CLEAN-OUT SERVICE This service is for business clean-outs that create more recyclables than your regular level of service. 13 Hazardous Waste Businesses/Property Managers The City of Palo Alto has a drop-off program for businesses and property managers to properly dispose of Universal (e.g., fluorescent lamps) and Hazardous Wastes (e.g., paint). These common items used every day contain substances such as antimony, arsenic, beryllium, butane, cadmium, copper, lead, nickel, mercury, propane, pesticides, PCBs and zinc that can pose a risk to people and the environment if not managed properly. Per State law, neither Universal nor Hazardous Waste may be placed in the garbage. In addition, there are drop-off, pick-up and mail-back programs operated by private companies for managing Universal Waste. 14 Debris Boxes Please consider deconstruction and salvaging building materials for reuse. GreenWaste of Palo Alto offers you debris boxes in multiple sizes for source separated and mixed materials. Debris boxes can be ordered on an on-call basis or as a scheduled weekly service. Please contact Customer Service at (650) to schedule delivery of a debris box that will meet your needs for capacity, type of material and collection frequency. SOURCE SEPARATED RECYCLING is recyclable material that contains no hazardous waste or household food or liquid waste and can be directly marketed as a distinct single commodity. Examples include: MIXED CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION (C&D) DEBRIS RECYCLING are mixed materials that can be recycled and contain no hazardous waste or household food and liquid waste. Examples include: To ensure compliance with the City s C&D debris ordinance, C&D boxes will be charged an additional fee that will be refunded if the C&D debris placed in the box does not exceed 25% unacceptable materials. GARBAGE may not include any liquid or hazardous waste.
