3 The Simplicity of Solar Hot Water The NOBO Eco-Series solar hot water system is the ideal solution for the safe and efficient heating of domestic hot water whilst enabling a simpler route to building regulations compliance for developers. The new solar hot water system from the NOBO Eco-Series is part of a whole house sustainable energy solution. When combined with a NOBO controllable electric heating system, it helps to create a lowcarbon home with low running costs, which will meet building regulations now and in the future. Controllable electric heating is still the preferred option for many developers in the UK for obvious reasons Low capital costs, fast construction, easy installation and no pipe work or flues. This is particularly the case for developers of new build flats and apartment complexes. Controllable electric heating is 100% efficient at point of use, safe, clean and reliable. When electric heating and solar hot water heating are combined, the developer gains an excellent means of meeting the requirements of Part L. Why use solar hot water? The use of a solar hot water heating system in the building design reduces energy consumption from other fuels, reducing the carbon dioxide emissions of the property along with reducing running costs. Introducing a solar hot water package also reduces the need for higher specifications in other parts of the building where costs may be increased. For this reason and to achieve the required level of performance, solar hot water should always be considered as an inherent part of the building design rather than a retrofit application. This has the benefit that flats within the block with the lower carbon dioxide emissions can be used to trade off against those with higher emission rates, meaning each individual unit does not have to comply, only the overall block. In fact, combining the intelligent use of solar water heating for top floor flats with the block assessment method can provide an extremely cost-effective route to Part L compliance, while keeping installation straight forward as only the flats nearest the roof space are affected. 5 Unparalleled Control and Economy 700 Controller RSX 700 Receiver During 2006, NOBO Heating introduced its new Multi-zone digital RF programmer which works with the NOBO controllable electric heaters around the home to reduce energy usage and achieve optimal indoor comfort. The Orion 700 is a complete control hub which controls a wide range of electric heaters and other electrical ancillary items within individual zones such as living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Orion 700 multi zone programmer The controller sends out radio signals to receivers which turn appliances on/off or keep temperatures within preset levels. In the case of a NOBO solar hot water system the Orion 700 can also be used to control the electrical immersion heater in the hot water storage tank. This together with the Eco Series control unit will ensure that hot water is available on demand throughout the year through a combination of solar/electrical energy. 6 Eco-Series Solar Hot Water Kit Specifications The Eco-Series solar hot water kit combines all of the necessary components into easy to purchase kits which contain all of the solar components required for a standard installation. The Solar Collector NOBO solar thermal collectors can be installed in almost any orientation and location allowing maximum freedom when integrating the solar system into the building structure. The mounting kits allow the solar collectors to be fitted to pitched tile roofs, pitched slate roofs, flat roofs and mounted flush with the roof using the integrated roof kit. 8 Selecting the right kit for your installation With 12 pre-configured kits to choose from, each designed to suit the needs of differing properties, choosing the right kit for your installation is easy using our three step selection process. STEP 1 Size of property and water usage The solar package is selected according to how much water is used in the property. The table below provides a guide as to the cylinder size for a given property. Once selected this will determine how many solar collectors are required to heat the water. The solar kit can then be read off from the table. 9 STEP 2 What roofing kit is needed Once the number of collectors and cylinder size has been determined, select the roof kit. This should be selected to suit the roof type of the property. The kits come with the following mounting options: Pitched tile roof Pitched slate roof Mounted flush with the roof using the integrated roof kit* Flat roof a dedicated roof kit that provides the correct elevation for the collector *This requires a section of the roof covering to be removed which is then replaced with the solar panel.
