Duct tape (for sealing ends of lines) e. Pliers f. Adjustable wrenches (2) g. Knife h. DC water pump (to pump out electric water heater) i. Garden hose j. Bucket (for catching drain drippings) k. T-handle for moving pit-less adapter in well l. Vacuum-hose-pipe connector kit m. Coffee can for storing toilet water valving pieces by toilet n. Step ladder for outdoor shower o. Extension ladder for orchard tank p. Allen key (SAE) for lakewater pump drain plug 3. Method a. Shut off well pumps b. Shut off fuel to propane and electric water heaters c. Open main cottage drain d. Open attic tank valves, drain attic tank e. Drain propane water heater to driveway using garden hose

3 BBL Winterize Procedure Page 3 of 5 f. Open drain for hot water under cottage by kitchen sink g. Using pump and hose, pump electric water heater out to driveway h. Open drain downstream of water filters i. Remove 3 water filters. j. Drain bath tub P-trap. k. Remove water valve for toilet foot pedal. Remove drain plug from rear of toilet. Remove valve head for water supply valve to toilet. Store pieces in coffee can, placed beside toilet. l. Drain bathroom sink P-trap m. Drain kitchen sink P-trap n. Using vacuum cleaner and ½" extension hose, suck attic tank dry. Suck tank inlet/outlet piping dry. Drain attic tank P-trap. o. Open up well head, install T-handle in pit-less adapter. Lift pit-less adapter to allow air inlet. Connect vacuum to drain point at pressure tank, suck line free of water from well to cottage. p. Open outdoor tap and drain piping. Recoil all garden hoses while draining. Hang hoses so they self drain & stay clear. q. Using reverse vacuum cleaner, blow lines from cottage to lakewater pumphouse. Walk lines, lifting section as you go to gravity drain hoses while air flow blows, so as to get last of water out of lines. r. Remove green priming bucket at lakewater pumphouse, store inside pumphouse. Remove 3 filters and invert casings inside pumphouse. Remove drain plug from pump casing using Allen key. Blow all piping in pumphouse, while opening and closing all valves so as to get water out of ball clearance & seats. s. Drain P-trap at gray water system overflow. t. Remove drain from graywater sediment trap.

4 BBL Winterize Procedure Page 4 of 5 u. Remove hand pump by outdoor firepit. Remove check valve and block valve. Blow line from pumphouse to manual pump. Seal pipe. v. Remove water suction line from lake. Remove foot valve. Blow lakewater suction line from pumphouse to lake. Walk line to remove all water. Seal line with duct tape. Place pipe away from water edge and behind rocks to protect it from incoming ice sheets during winter. w. At outdoor shower, disconnect solar panel hoses (in and out). Open drain by solar powered pump. Remove hose on inlet to electric thermosiphon heater. Break open fittings at tree for ½" water supply line from lakewater pumphose. Blow line from pumphouse to tree onto ground. Walk line from pumphouse to tree. Re-connect line. Blow line from pumphouse to outdoor shower. Use 2"x4"x12' to lift line in middle of road to help gravity drain overhead line while blowing. x. Remove irrigation timer at orchard tank. Open drain lines to drain orchard tank to ground. y. Drain irrigation timer, cycle timer open and closed 3 to 4 times until all water is removed from internal valve. Fill inlet of timer with plumbing antifreeze. Block outlet with thumb, then cycle valve 3 to 4 times, re-filling inlet each time. Shake timer to mix well, then open and drain. Cycle valve a few times to remove all liquids from internals. Repeat with fresh anti-freeze. Store timer in Winterization bin in basement. z. Hook up reverse vacuum to hydrant drain. Open line to ground at orchard. Blow line from hydrant to orchard. Walk orchard water line to remove all water from line. aa. bb. cc. Get extension ladder, climb to top of orchard water tower. Lift end of tank and place blocks under to facilitate draining of remaining water. Drain P-trap beside tank. Hook up reverse vacuum to orchard piping. Blow all orchard irrigation piping to remove water. Walk lines to ensure all low spots are drained. Open rain barrel bottom drain to cistern. Drain rain water cistern by opening tap at bottom. Divert eavestrough downspout away from cistern, and drain to ground. Remove hoses from all downspouts (3). Walk rainwater tubing to cistern to fully drain all lines (3 lines).
