11 9.0. Automatic IceMaker 9.1. Description in brief The automatic IceMaker is installed at the top left of the freezer compartment roof. The ice cubes produced are collected in the drawer directly beneath the IceMaker. The ice cubes are dispensed by turning and twisting the ice cube tray. The overflow lever controls the quantity of ice cubes produced and stops production when the maximum level is reached. The water supply is via a mains water connection, which is connected to the solenoid valve. The water is supplied to the freezer compartment and then into the ice cube tray through a supply line Schematic diagrams Connection diagram Support panel IceMaker Water line Overflow lever Solenoid valve IceMaker Electronics Overflow lever Gear motor Temperature sensor Ice cube tray Page 11/26

12 9.3. Description of function On/Off button: The On/Off button is not a locking button. The On/Off state is retained even after a power failure. The On state is displayed by a yellow LED on the PCB. The appliance is delivered with the electronics switched to On. The electronic control system can be switched on by pressing the button briefly. The button must be pressed for one second to switch off the electronic control system. If the IceMaker is in the middle of a dispensing cycle when the electronics are switched off, the ice cube tray is returned to its default position even though the electronics are off. The water supply valve is not actuated. Switching on for the first time: After the IceMaker has been switched on, it cannot be emptied for a period of four hours to prevent all the water being drained. The same applies after a mains failure. Normal operation: In normal operation, the temperature sensor issues a command to eject the ice cubes. When the temperature sensor reaches -10 C, the ice cubes are ejected and the tray is refilled with water. If the ice cube drawer is opened while the ice cubes are being ejected (reed switch activated), the dispensing process is stopped immediately and the ice cube tray returns to its default position. If the ice cube tray was being emptied, the water supply will not be activated. If the ice cube tray was already returning to its default position, the water supply will be activated as if the dispensing cycle had been completed. Overflow lever: The overflow lever is connected directly to the gear motor and moves from a horizontal position into a vertical position before every ejection of ice cubes. This monitors whether there are sufficient ice cubes in the drawer below. If the fill level has not been reached, the ice cubes are ejected and the tray is refilled with water. If there are too many ice cubes in the drawer to allow the overflow lever to drop to a completely vertical position, the ice cubes are not ejected. The solenoid valve is not actuated. The next ejection of ice cubes is attempted either after the reed switch is activated (ice cube drawer), after a power failure (after the minimum delay) or after the electronics have been switched on/off (minimum delay). Drawer detection switch (reed switch): The opening and closing of the drawer is registered via a reed switch. The switch contact is closed when the drawer is closed. The opening of the drawer is registered when there is an air gap of at least 16 mm between the drawer magnet and the electronics housing. The reed contact is located on its own board which is connected with the electronics via a 2-pole ribbon cable. Gear motor: The gear motor moves the overflow lever and the ice cube tray. Solenoid valve: For safety reasons the appliance is fitted with 2 solenoid valves which are installed directly after one another. The solenoid valves are switched in parallel. The solenoid valves control the water supply to the IceMaker as a function of time. Water supply time: seconds depending on the setting (see section 9.4., Self-diagnosis routine ). Power failure, power switched off: After a mains failure or after the mains supply has been switched off, the IceMaker returns to its default position. All the settings are stored. If a dispensing cycle is interrupted by a power failure, the ice cube tray is returned to its default position when the appliance resumes operation or the mains supply is switched on again. A dispensing delay of four hours applies after the appliance restarts. When the IceMaker is switched on for the first time or in the event of a power failure, the solenoid valve is only actuated after the first complete dispensing cycle. Page 12/26

13 Safety features: Electronics II A monitor for the solenoid valve is integrated in the electronic control system. If the solenoid valve is actuated for more than 120 seconds on account of an error (µc, triac), it is switched off by an intelligent fuse (electronics II). Checking for a defective water supply Every time water is added, the current sensor temperature is recorded and a timer is activated. Therefore, when the electronics register that the sensor has not warmed up three times during a specific time interval, the water supply must be faulty. Production is stopped and an error message generated. The LED flashes at 0.5 Hz. The solenoid valve is no longer actuated. Emptying the appliance in an emergency: Switch on the appliance and remove the drawer. Press the On/Off button for 10 seconds (the IceMaker switches off after 1 second). After 10 seconds the LED starts to flash at a rate of 10 Hz for a period of 60 seconds. Close the drawer during these 60 seconds. The IceMaker will run an emptying cycle and will then switch off. Initialisation: The IceMaker is initialised when the appliance is started up for the first time, after a power failure or after the appliance is disconnected from the mains. The solenoid valve is not actuated after the IceMaker is initialised. The first batch of ice cubes is ejected and the IceMaker is refilled with water (normal operation) after a minimum delay of 4 hours and following acknowledgement from the temperature sensor. Additional error query: A fixed delay (60 seconds) starts every time the motor is activated or an ice cube dispensing cycle starts and stops after every complete cycle. If an error occurs during the cycle (e.g. an internal starter defect, the dispensing mechanism icing up etc.), the fixed delay expires before the ice cube tray returns to its default position and an error message is displayed. The LED flashes at 0.5 Hz. The motor and water supply can then no longer be activated. Temperature sensor: Position: below the ice cube tray. Activates the ice cube dispensing function at -10 C. Mains water supply: A 1.5 m ¾ armoured flexible hose is supplied as an accessory with every appliance. A 3 m hose can be ordered if necessary (ref. no , price group 29). 700 mm 1050 mm Page 13/26

14 9.4. Automatic IceMaker self-diagnosis routine The sensor values are read continuously by the microcontroller regardless of the self-diagnosis routine and checked for function. If an error occurs (short circuit, cable break), ice cube production is stopped and the IceMaker returns to its default position. The LED flashes. Start: Remove the drawer. Switch off the IceMaker. Press and hold the On/Off button for 5 seconds. The LED starts to flash (1 Hz). The LED flashes throughout the self-diagnosis routine, after 2 seconds the test procedure starts. Test steps: The IceMaker completes one dispensing cycle and returns to its default position. The solenoid valve is actuated for the set water supply time. A temperature sensor check is carried out. If everything is OK, the LED starts to flash at 3 Hz for 5 minutes when the self-diagnosis routine has been completed. Within these 5 minutes the following points may be checked: Version A = Reed contact test The reed contact is tested by sliding in the drawer. This closes the reed contact and the self-diagnosis routine is finished if the reed contact is OK. The LED is permanently lit and the electronic control system returns to normal operating mode. Version B = Adjustment of water supply times The LED goes out by pressing the On/Off button briefly. After 2 seconds a flashing LED indicates the current water supply time (with a 3 second pause in between). Flash 1x = 3 seconds Flash 2x = 3.5 seconds Flash 3x = 4 seconds (= default setting) Flash 4x = 4.5 seconds Flash 5x = 5 seconds Flash 6x = 5.5 seconds Flash 7x = 6 seconds Flash 8x = 6.5 seconds By actuating the reed switch (slide in the drawer) the current value can be increased by one step each time the drawer is pushed in. To save the set value, press the On/Off button for 5 seconds. The LED is permanently lit and the IceMaker is ON. To end the self-diagnosis routine, the drawer must be pushed in or the On/Off button pressed. Page 14/26
