5 GENERAL RULES 1. Emphasis throughout the show is placed on growing, showing and designing with FRESH plant material except where noted in the Schedule. NO artificial plant material may be used in any Division of this show. The schedule is written to conform to all rule requirements and objectives of National Garden Club, Inc. and the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Revised 2017 Handbook for Flowers Shows and the amendments in The National Gardener, shall be used as the authority in all points not covered by this schedule. 2. The purposes of a Standard Flower Show are to: Educate club members and the viewing public. Stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design. Provide an outlet for creative expression. Convey to the community the objectives of National Garden Clubs, Inc. 3. Any amateur gardener or affiliated Garden Club member may enter the Horticulture Division and is encouraged to do so. Entries must be made in the individual s name. All horticulture entries must have the correct binomial name or currently accepted scientific identification. Entries in the Horticulture Division must be approved by the horticulture Classification Chairman. Each horticulture entry must conform to the schedule. Standard NGC horticulture entry cards are available from Elaine Flanagan Only members of an organized Garden Club, Judges Study Club or Garden Club Council who are members of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., or National Garden Clubs, Inc. may enter the Design Division. Each entry is to be the work of one exhibitor. 5. All entries will be accepted from 2:00 P.M. to 6:oo P.M., June 1, 2018 and from 8 A.M.-9 A.M. on Saturday, June 2nd. No entries will be accepted after 9:00 A.M. Judging will begin at 10:00 A.M., Saturday June 2, The Classification Chairman for each division checks exhibits for conformity to the schedule prior to judging. Final determination for conformance is the judges' responsibility. 2.

6 7. Each exhibitor is limited to one entry per class, except in the Horticulture Division. 8. The National Garden Clubs, Inc. Standard System of Awarding shall be used in each class or subclass. An accredited Judge must sign, date and indicate 90+ on the entry cards of exhibits scoring 90+. Judges are required to leave comments on exhibits in Design and Special Exhibits Judges are also required to sign all blue ribbon entry cards and Top Award Rosettes. Decisions of the judges are final. Awards may be withheld if not merited 9. Exhibition areas will be vacated during judging. Only Judges, Clerks, Flower Show Chairman, Judges Chairman, Clerks Chairman, Design Consultant and Horticulture Classification Chairman may be present. The use of any part of any native plant on the Georgia Conservation list is strictly prohibited. Other native plants may be exhibited in Horticulture Division if they are grown by the exhibitor and labeled with the proper botanical and common names. Other native plant material may be exhibited in the Design and Special Exhibits Divisions if they are grown by the exhibitor or obtained in a legal manner and labeled with proper botanical and common name. See Conservation list in the back of the Schedule. 10. The show will open to the general public on Saturday, June 2, 1:00 P.M. All exhibits are to be removed promptly from 5 P.M. until 6 P.M. on Sunday, June 3,

7 Awards: 1. The NGC Standard system of Awarding is used in all Divisions. Scale of points are based on perfection (100 points) and are the tools used to insure the purposes for the NGC Standard. Only one first place (Blue) ribbon per class or subclass; must score 90 or above Only one second place (red) ribbon per class or subclass; must score 85 or above Only one third place (yellow) ribbon per class or subclass; must score 80 or above One or more Honorable Mention (white) as merited; must score 75 or above NGC Top Exhibitor Awards NGC has established special awards to recognize outstanding achievement. Top Exhibitor Awards may be offered and awarded to the highest scoring exhibit scoring 95 or above in a Division or Section if all General, Horticulture or Design Requirements are met. Top Awards may be withheld if none meet the specific requirements to award. 1. Division I-Horticulture (NGC HB Pgs 39-40) a. Division Award: Award of Horticultural Excellence b. Section Awards: Arboreal Award, Award of Merit, Growers Choice 2. Division II-Design (NGC HB PGS 42-43) a. Division Award-Award of Design Excellence b. Section Awards- Petite Award-Section A Table Artistry Award-Section B 3. Sweepstakes Award-Overall Flower Show -one award to be given to the winner of most top awards combined Horticulture and/or Design 4.

8 Design Rules: 1. All The NGC Exhibit Policies are printed in the Handbook for Flower Shows, Chapter 7, Exhibiting in the Design Division, NGC Policies and Guidelines". 2. Advanced registration with Design Entries Chairman-Jean O Shields is required by May 14, "Plant material and non-plant material permitted in the Design Division are printed in the NGC-HB, Ch.7. Fresh Plant material may not be treated in any manner No artificial flowers, fruits or vegetables are permitted All living members of the Animal Kingdom e.g. mammals, birds, fish etc. and taxi -dermal presentations of the same are not permitted 4. All plant material used in the design must be identified on a card, provided by the exhibitor and included with the entry tag. 9 DIVISION II- DESIGN "Our Journey Begins" Eligible for Award of Design Excellence Section A "Traveling In A Small Fashion" Eligible for Petite Award Class 1. "Pause For Living-Have a Coke!" A visit to the Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta Georgia. Four Alfresco Exhibits-dining outdoors with any degree of formality HB pg 76Exhibitor has complete freedom to choose plant material and other components. Each design not to exceed 5" in height, depth or width staged on a picnic table 4" W x 6"L x 2" H (furnished by show committee) placed on a 12"x12" green artificial grass square furnished by the show committee. They will be placed on a 60" round table which is 30"high covered with a willow green topper. Class 2. " A Crown Jewel of the Past" Stepping back in time, we visited the Old Governor's Mansion in Milledgeville, Georgia. Four Functional Table Designs for a Tea staged on a 8" rounds to be placed on glass base 4"Wx4"Hx 8"H provided by the show committee. Designer has freedom to choose table coverings and appointments. A decorative Unit is not to exceed 5" in height, width or depth. Placed on a tea cart 30" high. 15.

"Southern Hospitality at Its Best" Our overnight stay at Twelve Oaks B & B in Covington, Georgia Four Miniature Tray Designs for one- not to exceed 5 in height, width, or depth each staged on a 4 Wx6 Lx3/4 H tray on a small scale bed. The white wood bed, 12 w x 20 l x 3 h, will be provided by the Show Committee. The bed will be placed on a 60 round table 30 high with a willow green overlay. A 12 square column will be placed in the center to divide beds. Designers are responsible for the bed coverings and accessories. Trays may be painted to coordinate with the design. The tray requires an appropriate sized Decorative unit with the stability of the Decorative unit given importance. Class 4. "Our Heritage" Section B "Rolling Down Highway 41" Eligible for Table Artistry Award Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of our Garden Clubs of Georgia Headquarters in Athens, Georgia. A luncheon honoring our State President, Jane Hersey and our former President, Martha Price. Four Functional Table settings for two-set for actual service of food will be staged on gate-leg tables 43"Wx56"Lx30"H. A white underlay will be furnished by show committee. Exhibitor may use an overlay of their choice. A decorative unit (completed floral design with/without candles and other accessories) must be included. A container grown plant alone is not a design. 11 Class 5. "A Beautiful Gem- Pebble Hill Plantation Thomasville, Georgia" Buffet served by 'Miss Pansy Poe' after the fox hunt. Buffet Table in the Dining Room- service for four or more with components conveniently and logically placed for ease of self-service. At least one serving piece required. A decorative unit must be included. Exhibitor has the freedom to include an underlay or not. HB.pg76 1. Buffet under decorative mirror-24"wx72"lx39"h 2. Table in front of Window (white sheers)-32"wx84"lx30"h Class 6. "Breakfast at the Neel House" Home of the Federated Garden Clubs of Macon, Inc. Four Breakfast Trays to be displayed on an oval table 48"Wx60"L x32"h divided by 4. in the breakfast room. Tray for one should be functional. No stacking of plates or napkins in glasses or on plates. Each tray (furnished by the exhibitor) is allowed approximately 24"x30" space. HB pg. 76 "the decorative unit should be in proportion to the one (1) place setting. The tray requires an appropriate sized Decorative unit with the stability of the Decorative Unit given importance" 17.
