3 Merchandising General Merchandising Checklist Walk the entire garden center to check watering needs and prioritize tasks. Find a Team Leader and determine daily game plan Water any dry product Remove and dispose of damaged product. Check for any new deliveries Empty the top shelf of any carts Merchandise the front curb appeal Restock all end caps Consolidate and organize all of the inside tables for replenishing Check all signage and make sure all items are signed properly Take any empty carts to the back of the store to the designated location for pick up Clean and sweep up your work areas Walk the entire garden center to double check everything

4 Watering and Toss Watering is preventative work Should be first task done daily With consistent watering, plants stay healthy and fresh Toss plants that you would not buy keep the display fresh! Take time to water so you can prevent unnecessary toss!!!

5 Signs needed on each display Accurate signs for each product Timely ad signs to maximize promotions Signs and Ad Signs Customers are frustrated when they can t find the price of products.

6 Merchandising (cont.) WATER, WATER, WATER!!!! ALL ITEMS MERCHANDISED BY UPC, VARIETY, AND COLOR!!! Be aggressive with toss to maintain display freshness Work from front curb appeal to the back of the garden center. Secure plenty of hanging basket space in stores before shipping season begins End caps with only one UPC, used for high end patio planters, and ad items. NOTHING PLACED TWO DEEP UNDERNEATH TABLES!!! Nothing placed underneath tables until tables are full

7 Merchandising (cont.) If there isn t any available display space, then MERCHANDISE product on the grower carts. Place carts up front on curb appeal in an organized fashion Consolidate and remove top shelf of product. SIGN and WATER!!! Use carts to display product during the busy weeks One cart w/7shelves = 6.56 pallets

8 Curb Appeal ONLY 13% OF MEIJER CUSTOMERS VISIT THE GARDEN CENTER!!! A well maintained Curb Appeal is key to the overall impression of the quality of Meijer garden products.

9 Curb Appeal Which Geranium display looks more attractive? Just by keeping the colors organized, the display looks clean and bold to onlookers.

10 Not enough display space Hanging Baskets Need to spend time before season to determine where and how to display baskets. Baskets need to be organized just like any other product.

11 Hanging Baskets Organize baskets by price, variety, and color.

12 End Caps End caps should be simple, with only ONE UPC and signed. They should be used for patio planters, ad items, and high end products with lots of color.

13 Organize all flats by UPC, variety, and color Vertical color stripe all the way to the ground ABSOLUTELY NO FLATS DOUBLE STACKED UNDERNEATH THE TABLES!!! Keep different types of flats separated from each other. (10 packs, Landscaper flats, Simply Beautiful) Flats
