1 PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK CITY OF TOWN AND COUNTRY STORMWATER PROGRAM Project ID Number: 25-5 Problem: Stormwater collected from the neighborhood upstream is released at 9 Muirfield Lane and flows west toward Bellerive Country Club. The stormwater exits the outfall and has no defined flow path, creating yard erosion. In order to slow down the erosion, the residents have placed soil, brick, and rocks, but the improvements often get washed out by the high flows. The backyards of 6, 7, 2, 2, and 22 Muirfield Lane have soggy conditions and ditches carved out by erosion. Near 22 Muirfield Lane, the landscape changes from mowed lawns to a small rock swale. The rock has eroded away. Next is a wooded riparian area, which is hidden and likely not often accessed by the nearby residents. The entire reach is in very poor health. The stream is downcutting and widening. Portions of the stream have been lined with large riprap. There is little ground vegetation because the canopy of primarily honeysuckle shades and inhibits the growth of the understory. There is debris in the channel, including a lawnmower, fallen trees and branches, and a mess of live cables. The stagnant water in the stream is blue-green, cloudy, and smells of sewage. At the Bellerive Country Club, the flow is piped. Water is collected and is piped to the west. Proposed Solution: Install bioswales upstream of the project area to reduce flow coming through backyards. At the outlet of the pipe from Muirfield Ln, install a vegetated reinforced earthen swale until approximately the midpoint of the lot for. Construct grade controls at the outfall and again around the midpoint of the new swale. At the downstream end of the swale, install a level spreader to encourage the flow to spread out (much like it does in this location already). Farther downstream near the property line between 6 and 22 Muirfield Ln, remove the existing rock channel and install bank protection with a rock toe. End improvements where the channel moves into the wooded area, with a grade control to lock in the elevation. Required Easements: 5 Muirfield Lane (Temporary Construction Easement) 6 Muirfield Lane (Temporary Construction Easement) 9 Muirfield Lane (Temporary Construction Easement) 2 Muirfield Lane (Temporary Construction Easement) 22 Muirfield Lane (Temporary Construction Easement) Commentary: At the lower end of the reach, average reach slope is approximately 3.5% (typical stable slope is.5 to.7%). Scour line in this area is approximately 3-feet above channel bed, and the bed width is approximately 6-feet wide. Due to the odors in the area, it is recommended that MSD be contacted to investigate their sanitary sewer system. PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK
