The area offers first rate education opportunities, with a wide range of both state and independent schools easily accessible. In addition close by are tennis clubs, gyms and beautiful golf courses, plus trout fishing and sailing on Chew Valley lake. After living in Bath for many years, we sought a home in a more rural location, but one which would be convenient for our active family life. Plus, we required easy access to road and rail links for business travel. Our search was quite arduous but, on viewing Ottery Villa, we fell in love with its fabulous, convenient and beautiful, location. Its potential to become our perfect home was obvious, and we came to live here in We undertook several large, practical, tasks and also improved the internal layout of our home to provide more flexible living; one major improvement was the creation of our large kitchen/dining room. It s a fabulous home, with lots of space to undertake a variety of activities. Malcolm works from home and has a roomy study in a quiet part of the house, and which, conveniently, opens out onto the sunny terrace overlooking the garden. The garden and its surroundings certainly provide the wow factor. When the weather permits, we enjoy dining or relaxing on the large terrace which can be accessed direct from three of our rooms. It is a truly exceptional outlook over the valley and its surroundings. The garden is not only beautiful but also very useful. We have a very productive large vegetable plot which easily provides for the five of us. There is a 600 square foot poly-tunnel in which we grow tomatoes, pomegranates, figs, melons, cucumbers, chilies, asparagus and butternut squash. In the summer months, everyone tends to mingle in the kitchen/dining room. It is very much the hub of our family life, and does have a friendly, welcoming, ambience. When we have parties, everyone seems to gather in here to chat whilst food is being prepared. Being on the edge of the Mendip Hills, there are many walks direct from the house, a favourite being to our friendly, local pub, which serves excellent meals, and is only five minutes from the house. Our large main reception room, comes into its own in the winter, particularly at Christmas when our family are here, the wood burning stove is aglow. The high ceiling enables a large Christmas tree to be erected, all helping to make the day special and a very happy one for all concerned. Our children have now flown the nest and the house is outgrowing our requirements. We will feel sad saying goodbye to what has been a stupendous home in a fabulous location, and one which has given us an exceptional quality of life whilst here. * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
