Aropa belladonna (also known as deadly nightshade) is extremely toxic and should be kept away from gardens where children/pets could accidentally ingest it. Castor bean all parts are poisonous, especially the seed toxic to large and small animals. Mint roots can be seriously invasive and can spread like a weed through your garden, you may want to grow your mint in a container. Bamboo overgrows very quickly, you should grow it in large landscaping containers. Wonder Gardens, LLC Tropical Fruit & Citrus Trees, Native & Butterfly Plants Roxie & Lenny, Owners Sears-Broward Mall / Welcome back everyone to another wonderful year of gardening and sharing our ideas and plants with each other. Now is the time to clean up our yards and decide if we want to grow a vegetable garden. If so, we have from September to November to plant seeds, or when small plants are available, start at the end of September to plant them, such as collards, peppers, tomatoes and broccoli. Sometimes it s still very hot in September, so wait until October. This is a good time to take cuttings and dividing perennials. Continue to plant all trees and shrubs, but be sure to water them well. I'd like to recommend a plant of the month. Jatropha Integerrima Compacta. This tree or bush is one of the best source of nectar for butterflies and is always full of red flowers. As a good heat tolerant ground cover, try Variegated Baby Sun Rose. I carry both of these in my store. Please give us a call.

2 President s Message Welcome Back! It is my pleasure and privilege to be the President of the Plantation Garden Club for term. I would like to thank you for a great year last year. It looks like is even going to be another great year. I hope you had an enjoyable Summer break and that you are excited to get back into our garden club activities. As we usher in another Club year, it appears that the Club will have a very busy calendar ahead. This year s program and activities were planned with you in mind. Our 1 st Vice President, Sheryl Melson have organized some excellent programs and fields trips for this year. You asked for it You got it! All of the programs and events are outlined in the Membership Yearbook. The books will be distributed at the September 16 th meeting. I look forward to working with the New Board who have already demonstrated that they are committed to their various roles and responsibilities for the next two years. I am very excited about one of our major fundraisers for this year, The Traditional High Tea which will be held on Saturday, October 24 th at Deicke Auditorium. We look forward to your participation in this event. There are several projects that would not have happened without the efforts of many of our members. I would like to thank those members for their dedication and commitment to the Club s success, throughout this past year. Everything that you did, whether big or small, contributed to the success of the Garden Club. Remember, the Plantation Garden Club s gates are always open. Let us continue to grow our Club membership. Let us show off our pride and show off our Club and invite someone to one of our monthly meetings. Who knows, maybe after a few visits your guest may decide that our Club is what they are looking for. I look forward to the opportunity to be of service to you. If you have any questions or concerns, I would encourage you to reach out to me at ceh2251@hotmail.com or (954) Let us continue the progress that we have made together. Here s to A Wonderful Year!

The YReads program is a free afterschool reading program that the YMCA started last school year at Plantation Elementary. We are currently looking for volunteers to commit to two-three afternoons per week. We have a number of days available and are asking our volunteers to choose either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday and Friday if possible. We are open to working with the students schedule and will try to set a schedule that works for both parties. I would love to discuss this opportunity with you.
