4 Definitions Small Design (OJES Publication 34, 2003, pg 104) A design from 13.9 cm to 25.4 cm (5.5 to 10 ) that must not exceed 25.4 cm (10 ) in any direction (height, width, depth, diagonal). Proportion is greatly enhanced when exhibited in appropriate sized niches. Line Design (OJES pg 100) A design in which linear pattern is dominant. Wayside Design (OJES, pg 108) A design composed of common and plentiful flowers, foliage, fungus and weeds of roadsides and meadows such as bulrushes, ox-eye daisy, goldenrod, etc. The use of scarce, protected or endangered native plants such as wild orchid, trillium, etc. requires that the exhibit be disqualified by the Show Committee. Although gardeners may cultivate scarce, protected or endangered native plants, the use of them is forbidden in show work to discourage their picking from the wild. Satellitic Design (Creative Designs, Toronto Botanical Gardens, Margaret Taylor) A design using two containers, one larger than the other, with the same colour, form and texture. The smaller design to be placed near the base of the large container and having a connective line that becomes a vital part of its rhythmic pattern. Waterviewing Design (OJES, Pg 108) Usually a line design in a shallow container(s) with one-half to two-thirds of the container surface showing water. A Design with Visible Use of Water Any design that includes water such as a Waterviewing Design or an Underwater Design. Terrarium (OJES, pg 106) A miniature landscape in a covered transparent container, other than a bottle. Plants must be completed confined within the container. No cut plant material allowed.
