2 President's Message OCTOBER 2014 Dear Shasta Koi and Water Garden Club Members, The koi auction to be held this month on the 18th is one of the most fun and exciting events our club offers to the public. We anticipate another very successful year and look forward to seeing lots of beautiful koi for sale. The public is invited to this event, so we will only be having a short meeting before the auction begins at 11 o'clock. Some of the following rules have been in place for quite some time but we have new members who may not be aware of how the auction actually works. Volunteers: If you have not signed up to volunteer and would like to, please contact Kirk Hall at or him at kirkhall@snowcrest.net If you are planning to sell koi please let Kirk know how many fish you will be bringing and he will assign a tank for your fish. If you only have one or two fish, you may be asked to share a tank with another club member who will only bring one or two fish. Club members selling koi will receive 50% and the club the other 50% of the highest bid paid per koi. STOP FEEDING your fish three or four days prior to the auction so the holding tanks will stay somewhat clear during this event. Delivery of koi to the auction: Please have your koi to the auction site between 7 am and 9:30 am on Saturday morning. The regular club meeting will begin at 10 o'clock, so it's important the fish be in the tanks by 9:30 latest. The auction will begin at 11 o'clock. FISH parameters: If you are bringing small koi measuring between 3 to 5 inches, they will be sold in lots of five. If you have less than five koi in this size, they will be sold in one lot. Koi measuring over five inches will be sold individually to the hightest bidder. Fish NOT SOLD Fish not sold will have to be taken back by the owner. After the auction has officially closed, owners can give fish away at their discretion or negotiate with any interested party. Goldfish will not be sold during the auction. However, if you have goldfish and would like to give them away, please contact our chairperson with the number of fish you are bringing and we will make sure we have a tank for your goldfish.

3 Koi Auction Information (continued) BIDDER INFORMATION: 1. Each person wanting to bid needs to sign up for a paddle number. 2. When bidding closes on a fish, the fish will immediately be bagged and the paddle number written on the bag. 3. A list of fish sold in each tank will be given to the club treasurer with the paddle number and final bid price. 4. Only AFTER the auction is closed will the treasurer be open for payment and no fish will leave the premises until AFTER the treasurer issues a RECIPT. 5 After payment, the new owner will present his/her receipt to an auction staff member to identify the fish bag and sign off on the receipt. NEW FISH OWNERS: Each fish will be bagged by auction personnel, with oxygen and bag buddies for your fish's comfort. If you plan to purchase fish, please bring a sturdy box or a cooler in which to transport your new fish. Having a bagged fish loose in the front seat of the car or in the trunk is not the proper way to transport a live fish. Once the bagged fish is placed in the box or cooler, place the cooler in the car so that the fish is riding sideways, aligned with the axles of the car. This is much easier on the fish during vehicle stops and starts on the trip home. Once you get the fish home, rest the bag in the pond for about 15 minutes to allow for temperature differences between the bag water and pond water. When releasing the fish, try not to release any bag water into the pond. We will have a KOI CARE sheet available for you. On behalf of: Armando Mejorado, President Shasta Koi & Water Garden Club
