The June Monthly Meeting will be a Thank You lunch courtesy of the Plant Sale Committee and its profit. This is to thank all the Master Gardeners for their hard work, not only at the Plant Sale, but on all activities of the organization. Reservations have closed, but if you did not make reservations, and want to come, feel free to bring a sack lunch for the meeting. The meal will be served at noon with the meeting to follow. Annual Membership Surveys The annual surveys will be distributed to those in attendance at the lunch and mailed to those who aren t able to come. Please fill out both sides and return them as directed. The information gathered from the surveys is very helpful to the organization, so please be thoughtful as you indicate what you can do. Note to Mentors and Mentees: Please turn in your Mentor / Mentee surveys to Jenola Flowers at the monthly meeting if you have not already done so. Lost yours? Not to worry! She will have a few extras on hand.

2 COMPOST CLASSES Debbie will conduct compost classes on Tuesday June 9 meeting at the CAF at 6 p.m. and then on Thursday June 11, at the Compost Garden also at 6 p.m. There is no charge for this class, but you must register at the Ector County office. Earl Foote, chair of the Compost Garden, needs fresh cut grass for the June 11 session. If you plan to mow on that Tuesday or Wednesday, he could use your clippings. ROSE RESEARCH The Adopt a Row program at the Rose Research Garden needs a few new people to Adopt a Row to weed and keep tidy. Please check with Donna Winborn or Nancy Lovett. New Items On the Website for May: The PBMG Articles that were approved at the May monthly meeting have been added to the website in the members only folder. The PBMG Garden Tour photos are located in Other Galleries on the home page. The Water-wise garden, Barbara Chambers, Barbara Craig, and Debbie Frost s gardens were on the tour. A big Thank You goes to Margie Langfitt and Nancy Stout for submitting the photos to the website. Texas Master Gardener On-line Re-certification classes link is on the main menu in the members only folder.

3 Help Wanted: Design & Review Team Any certified Master Gardener who is interested in working on the Design & Review Team, please plan to stay after the June 3rd monthly meeting for a brief meeting. The design team will be expanding and accepting more projects, and this is the time to join us. We are especially interested in MGs with writing, drawing, computer and photography skills, but we welcome those of you who just want to learn more by doing landscaping with us as well. If you are interested in joining us but will not be at the June 3 meeting, please call Kathleen Cox or Ann Panuska. We Need Elephant Ear Growers... (For the Big Leaf...Bird Bath Project. Bulbs should be in by Friday.) There are three conditions to this project. 1) You must plant bulbs right away. 2) You must be willing to harvest the leaves in October for use in the workshop. 3) You must be willing to water the plant (maybe daily) once it begins to grow. Plants get large and make a good focal point in a bed, bog garden, near a water feature or a large container. Here are a few plant guidelines. Plant in morning light with protection from hot afternoon sun. Height: 4-6. Soil should be well amended with compost or a light potting mix containing bark, perlite and peat moss. Moisture: Keep soil damp while plant is getting established; once plant has unfurled its leaves water liberally. Keep mulched with 4-6 inches of mulch. Fertilizing: Fertilize when planting with an all purpose, slow release fertilizer (Osmocote or an organic fertilizer) and again when the plant is fully established and leaves are unfurled. Call or me at Dbenge@ag.tamu.edu if you d be willing to grow Elephant Ears.
