4 featre living spaces Tommy says, prodly, that he set the tone for the formal English-style dining and living area with his one frnitre selection: a Yew Wood secretary, one of the cople s favorite pieces. The formal living room is jst the most wonderfl place to sit and talk, says Sylvia. It contains some of my most favorite pieces and decorative items, and the flow arond the room and between other rooms is so nice. 5 Next month, Tommy and Sylvia Boyer will host sch an affair: the 21st Annal Washington Regional Hospice Smmer Garden Party, one of the smmer s most spectaclar events, appropriately themed Sothern Soiree. The Boyers 12,000-sqarefoot home is ideally sitated on 55 acres of easy, rolling hills covered in thick, green grass and, farther from the hose, wispy fields of wheat creating a perfectly romantic environment for an otdoor party. In fact, it was the home s Hampton-inspired design with its large porches and ample windows 283 panes to be exact as well as the lsh lawn that Tommy and Sylvia fell in love with when they first saw the hose. The cople had been searching for five years, hoping to eventally relocate from their home in Amarillo, Texas, and were pleased to be able to prchase the home and property in Foyer I especially love the patio and the yard, says Sylvia. There s a well-known painting of a white hose standing alone ot in a Kansas wheat field, and I sspect that was part of the inspiration for the home. The home s architect, Rene Diaz, positioned the hose so that in the smmer the sn moves directly over the top and the heat bonces off the roof. In the winter, when the sn is lower in the sky, the home is flooded with snlight and warmth. So, inside or ot, it s a wonderfl place to be anytime of year. When the Boyers prchased the home, Sylvia says that the original décor, designed by local interior designer Chris Goddard, sited their own personal taste as well. 69

7 So, the Boyers worked with the previos homeowner to prchase many of the existing pieces. To complete the look, since the Boyers still live part of the time in Amarillo, Sylvia worked closely with artist and interior designer James M. Haney of that area. We hardly changed a thing, Sylvia recalls. It was so amazing when we moved in. I repapered one powder room and that s abot it. The home was very traditional and that worked for s. With the home flly decorated, the Boyers are still making progress to permanently settle back in Northwest Arkansas. After all, they attended the University of Arkansas, where they met while Tommy was a key player and captain of the Razorback basketball team, and, more recently, Tommy served as one of the five chairs for the UA Campaign for the 21st Centry and Sylvia served as one of three committee chairs, showing their strong and contined spport for the niversity and the area. We have enjoyed being involved with the niversity and other organizations in Northwest Arkansas for the last 20 years, Sylvia says. We re kind of slowing down right now, bt this hose is where we ll retire. We jst love the area. The best move yo ll ever make. Sylvia says that she is impressed by how the event has grown, bt pleased that it remains niqe, festive and charming. We hosted the garden party 15 years ago and had abot 200 gests attend, she says. We expect almost twice that nmber this year, and I can assre yo that no stone has been left ntrned; it s going to be fablos. Throgh a special challenge grant recently issed to Washington Regional Hospice by the Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Fondation, all proceeds benefiting the Hospice Garden Party will atomatically be matched dollarfor-dollar to benefit the new Willard Walker Hospice Home. Amy contines, The Friends of Washington Regional Hospice feel fortnate to once again be working with the Boyer family on the 21st Annal Smmer Garden Party. There is also a walk-in closet where I can slide in the Christmas tree and other decorations. At the holidays, we set p folding tables and pll ot all of the decorations and go throgh them.
