2 In Memoriam Susan Turgeon Susan was a volunteer extraordinaire. Aside from being an excellent cook, sshe was a long-time time member of St. Patrick s Church, a member of the CWL, the ladies auxiliary, the Lockerby Legion, a siste sister of the Quilting Guild, the Horticultural Society Society, and Parkside Senior s Center. Susan always enjoyed volunteering at our society s functions. We will certainly miss seeing her friendly face. Les Corrigan It saddens us to hear of the passing of Les Corrigan, husband of Rachel Corrigan. Those of uss who were fortunate to know Les Les, will miss a very gentle and loving man. Rachel is in our thoughts every day. Helen Cotnam This extraordinary woman celebrated her 99th birthday last year. Accompanied by her daughter Jessie MacIsaac, Helen attended most of our general meeti meetings. She also walked to John Street Park from her home (off York Street) to support the crew working that day. Among her many accomplishments, Helen had a lovely voice and could sing in several languages. She will surely be missed at our gatherings. Dates to Remember! Introducing Our Guest Speaker Jennifer Davidson came to Sudbury in 2000 as an MSc student in aquatic ecology, and has been working in landscaping since She now runs her own small business, Buddies Gardening, where combining outdoor work with a bit of design, biology, and getting dirty has been like a dream come true. Working in gardens all over Sudbury and revisiting sites each year has offered an exponential learning curve, which she is chugging along slowly but surely! Jennifer will talk about the different jobs she and her team focus on throughout the seasons, guaranteed to spark those can-do circuits and get everyone looking forward to a new year of gardening. 4 A Good Day My face in the mirror is not wrinkled or drawn. My house isn t dirty the cobwebs are gone. My garden is lovely and so is the lawn. I think I may never put my glasses back on! Author unknown A Seedy Affair at the Public Library On February 23, Ron Lewis and Linda Hachez (below) were swapping seeds and promoting the Adopt-a-Seed program at the McKenzie Street library. Folks were happy to swap and buy seeds, listen to guest speakers, ask for advice, and get their Hort memberships. Winter Walk Join us Sunday March 10th from 1-3pm to explore the beautiful Ponderosa Wetland, a natural gem in the center of Sudbury. The walk will be led by Winter Ecologist Gerard Courtin, and will be an amazing opportunity to connect with an important wetland within the Junction Creek watershed. As we have been partners with the CNIB for so many years, we have been invited to an unveiling of their new van on March 20. As we build a brighter future for patients in Northern Ontario, we re unveiling the latest model of the CNIB Eye Van (Medical Mobile Eye Care Unit) in Sudbury.
