Save the Dates (continued) Crawford County Fair Fair Fever Catch the Fun August Gays Mills, WI For more information go to: WIMGA Conference September Eau Claire, WI From Donna Teynor: From some of our members We need broken terra cotta or ceramic pots for Kids in the Garden. No plastic, please. From Eric & Lori Brey: We would like to thank Caprice Ellefson, Marla Cameron and Donna Teynor for the Saturday Seminars at Nelson s True Value. Even though we were the only two who attended, they were a lot of fun and very educational. Thank you very much ladies. From Julie Hazen: Just a reminder to wear your MGV apron and nametag every time you attend a public event on behalf of the Crawford County Master Gardeners, if you have them. If you do not have an apron, Julie can loan one to you for the event. 2

From some of our members (continued) From Caprice Ellefson: Our August meeting (8/8) will be held at my home. A short tour of my gardens will start off the meeting. Snacks and beverages will be supplied during the meeting. Weather permitting, we will have the meeting outdoors to enjoy the beauty of nature and some good country air. Details will be in the August newsletter. Opportunity for Volunteer Hours From Dennis Kirschbaum of La Riviere Park in PdC: They are tearing down a building and he would be interested in partnering up with an MGV (or a team of MGVs) to create a pollinator garden. It would be a 14 x20 area. Julie believes that he has some grant funds to help with the cost. He would work hand s on with the MGV. The hope is to have perennials planted this fall and then have a grand opening in June next year for Pollinator Week where MGVs would be present to do a little presentation and make more people aware of us as an organization. July 12-14: Tractor Ride Parade. Over 1,000 tractors starting at St. Feriole Island. They are looking for volunteers to help make the gardens look pretty. 3

Horticulture Therapy Workshop: Presented by Mike Maddox Hosted by the Grant and Crawford County MGVs The MGVs supplied a lovely Continental breakfast and flower arrangements for the tables. We had a lot of fun making floral arrangements in coffee mugs, learning how to set up a workshop and more importantly, how NOT to set up a workshop. It was very educational as we all took turns being leaders of mini workshops and being challenged participants. Some of us were sight challenged, some had attention issues and some were physically challenged. It was fun and very enlightening. During our lunch break Donna gave a presentation on Kids in the Garden for the Grant County MGVs. 4

Another Fund Raiser: Plant Sale: Crawford County Master Gardener Volunteers in partnership with the Soldiers Grove Library The sale was held Saturday, June 16th, during Soldiers Grove s Dairy Day. The plants were supplied by both the Crawford County MGVs (leftover plants from our fund raiser last month) and plants dug up during a remodel of the library s landscape gardens. The remodel is a project spear headed by MG Intern Cheryl Frazier. All proceeds were split between the Crawford County MGVs and the Soldiers Grove Library. The net profit added to OUR kitty was $ Not bad for a blisteringly hot day. 5

Address: County Road C Soldiers Grove, WI Friends of the Library Garden Walk Saturday, July 14th 1:00pm 4:00pm Here is a list of the gardens, their owners and the MGs assigned to help at each of the gardens: 1. Deb Rider will be floating from garden to garden bringing water and anything else that might be needed. If anyone would like to trade garden spots, please contact Deb Rider. Even if you are not helping out at any of the gardens to field questions come join the fun of viewing what are sure to be some lovely gardens. 9

Highlighting MG Volunteers for June Monica Horner: Monica currently lives in Soldiers Grove and was originally certified in Vegetable gardening and food preservation have been a way of life for her since she was a little girl growing up. She is particularly interested in the concepts of permaculture and the use of plants and herbs both as food sources and medicinally. Her recent move to Soldiers Grove will allow her to significantly increase her garden space as well as erect a 30 x90 greenhouse to allow for year round food production. As with many other local gardeners, she prefers to use natural inputs rather than chemicals. She enjoys the knowledge and camaraderie of her fellow Master Gardener Volunteers and is excited to be a part of such a fun group of people. Crawford County s MG Association s Mission Statement: We TEACH, LEARN, LEAD and SERVE, connecting with the University of Wisconsin and engaging with them in transforming lives and communities. 10 "An EEO/AA employer, University of Wisconsin Extension provides equal opportunities in employment and programming, including Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements."
