Coffee at 9:30 a.m.; business meeting at 10 a.m.; guest speaker at 11 am. March 11, 2017 Growing Great Gardens WCCCD Educational and Performing Arts Center March 13, 2017 Grosse Ile Garden Club s March Generalmeeting with speaker Terra Weiland Birds in Your Garden. The February speaker will be Michael Johnson, whose topic will be The New Look of Urban Gardening President s Message Out my window it s a cool and colorless February, and we re waiting for any sign of spring. But for Pat Nielsen, Elaine Aho and Doreen Payette, it s already fall. The trio have been setting up committees and finalizing the venue for our annual September Table Scape fundraiser. They are lining up volunteers to enlist sponsors and designers to put together special table settings, each with its own theme. So much creativity goes into this delightful afternoon! This every-other-year event is the key fundraiser for our Garden Club. Circle your calendar now for September 26, and please volunteer when Pat, Elaine or Doreene call. It s such a joy to work with our active club and in May three Board positions will open. This is an opportunity for new members, as well as longtime and former board members to join in. 3 VOLUM E 2017, ISSUE 2 CLIPPINGS PAGE 3 Spring, a little earlier.. Brighten up your home this winter by starting your own indoor bulb garden. Try using eggshells, which can be planted directly into the garden after flowering. Remove the top quarter of the eggshell, set the egg aside and rinse the shell with warm water. Add a small amount of gravel to the bottom of each eggshell.. Sit the bulb on top of the gravel. Add a bit of soil to help anchor the bulb and dress the eggshell with moss to help maintain moisture. Gently water your eggshell garden and place it in a sunny spot. Wait for the Magic!!!!!!!! Allow the soil to dry in-between waterings, usually once a week. Within six weeks, you should see flower buds form and blossom. Enjoy!!!!

6 VOLUM E 2017, ISSUE 2 CLIPPINGS PAGE 6 GIGC Community Bulletin Board MGC 86th Annual State Convention Michigan Garden Clubs 86th Annual State Convention will be held June 7-8, 2017 at the Holiday Inn, 3600 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor. The fifty clubs in District I and District IIA are partnering to put on an educational, enjoyable, and memorable convention with the theme GROW and SHARE. Marilyn McIntosh, MGC State President; Ruth Moline, District I Director and Carolyn Gardetto, District IIA Director are pleased that all major tasks associated with the convention have been assigned and the clubs are making great progress and showing lots of enthusiasm. The convention leaders are finalizing details on a wide variety of programs, speakers, hands on activities, and local tours. One of the highlights of the convention will be the Installation Banquet for incoming MGC President, Carol Brodbeck, on the evening of Thursday, June 8, For those wishing to spend the night at the Holiday Inn, a special rate of $99 plus tax per night has been arranged for MGC members. More information regarding hotel rates and how to book rooms will be shared in the spring MGC newsletter, Thru the Garden Gate.
