1 Brains and Archibald park concept plan The Brains and Archibald park concept plan has been commissioned by the Whau Local Board for the purpose of providing a vision to guide improvements to Brains Park and Archibald Park and its interfaces with Kelston community and facilities over the short, medium, and long-term. WHAU RIVER Improvements to the park are proposed, and we would like your feedback on them. Archibald Park Brains Road Brains Park Archibald Road
2 Brains park concept plan This plan provides an overview of the proposed improvements to Brains Park. Existing sportsfields to be retained. Existing courts to be retained, additional basketball hoops to be installed. Tamariki Ave Proposed teenage play area, expanding on the existing playground and includes mounding play space, graffiti wall, shade sails, seating, volleyball court, ping pong tables, handball and surface markings for play e.g. hopscotch. Proposed nature play area, expanding from existing playground to the changing rooms and includes a chill-out hoggin surface space, informal grassed paths, balance logs, timber stilts, and a walk-through the existing vegetation. West Auckland Association Sports Club Proposed community garden area, with fruit trees. Proposed picnic area, suited for a family friendly picnic space with shade sails and bench seats. Upgrade existing park entrances with renewed signage and amenity planting. Soften existing building with amenity planting and specimen trees. Proposed greenway route connection to Brains Park with speed humps and raised tables at intersections in accordance with the Local Path Design Guide. 5 Archibald park playground concept plan The theme Archibald playground follows is based around the Whau River and the Te Aranga design principles developed for Te Whau Pathway. Go with the Whau Kei te Ngau Te Whau, Know the Whau Te Hau o Te Whau, One path many places Kotahi te Ara, he Maha nga Huarahi Seating area overlooking sportsfields and infant play area. Infant mounded play area, with play unit (including slide and climbing), rocker and spinner. Astroturf mound to include stairs and stepping stones. Learn to ride track for scooters and push bikes.
