Ground floor tours available Other features Visitors can touch many of the objects and furniture in these small, atmospheric back to back houses: handle an old flat iron from the 1930s, feel the old woollen blankets in the 1870s house. Visitors can also experience the smells of the 19th-century wash house and the 1930s sweet shop. In winter, the fires and ranges will be lit in each house. All tours are led by volunteer guides who will talk about the families who lived here. There are also sound points in two of the houses and the exhibition room to enable visitors to hear recorded memories of life in the Back to Backs.
