Extension Office Attendees Sharon Jeter, Shannon Bielicke, Joan Dinnel, Betty Kelly, Jackie Wellborn, Alice Linhart, Esther Retish, Mike Murphy, Carolyn Murphy, Sherlyn Flesher, Jo Verts, Chuck Verts, Nicole Pearson, Jan Denehy, Joanne Leach Secretary s Report: from last meeting approval. Approved. Treasurer s Report: Barb Krug Plum Grove: $3, General: $8, New Receipts/ Bills- Approved. International conference receipts turned in (Carolyn and Mike Murphy, Shannon Bielicke, Betty Kelly). $1,320 total General Fund Betty Kelly - Plum Grove $23.26 Joan Dinnel General Program Bushes and annuals $14.34 John Saxton Demo Garden $ Loren Leach - Plum Grove Landfill compost and mulch $68.80 Plum Grove $92.06 total General - $ $1.320 = $ total Old Business Flea Market/Plant Sale: Saturday, May 16 th 8am-Noon. Donations. Barb Krug Joann Dinnel is in touch with Barb Krug for assistance with donations. Looking for a cashier for the sale on Saturday. Checking in with Nancy Kennedy if she helps with this. Might need more help recruited. Collection of donations is Thurs. and Friday. Sale on Saturday. Building B. Taste of the Heritage Garden July 15 5:30-7pm, Betty Kelly & Taste Menu Planning Meeting Follow up. Items needed. Betty Kelly Need 30 cooking volunteers. Band is set up and paper products are in the works. Betty Kelly needs help with advertising. 1
2 International Master Gardener Conference September 22 25, 2015 MID-AMERICA CENTER, COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA, USA Please visit this website for more information. Early Deadline has been extended. Follow up on status of Steering Members that wish to attend. Please contact Lavon and submitted paperwork if you are interested in going. Financial assistance is limited. Kirkwood Scholarship Foundation approved $2,000 for 4 students. Follow up needed with paperwork turned in to Jacky at the extension office. Check with Lavon. Discuss next month. Bur Oak Trust request for funding. Further discussion needed and paperwork needs turned in to Jacky at the extension office if passed. Check with Lavon. Discuss next month. JC Memorial Garden Follow up. Memorial Garden in progress and committee can contact to Gene Mohling if information is needed. Will discuss further next meeting. Master Gardener Search for Excellence Awards. 2 awards were submitted and received. Plaques and certificates are in, need signed and will be presented at the next Winter potluck. Proposal of creating a Johnson County Master Gardener webpage connected to the Johnson County Extension webpage as a location to post Newsletter, Meeting Notes, etc. to help with better access to information. Demo Page presented for an example and discussion further will take place at the next meeting. Master Gardener Summer Webinar series. Shannon asked if there is interest in offering this in Johnson County and ed the example flyer to Carolyn Murphy for the Johnson County MG steering advisory committee to discuss and contact Shannon if interested. General thoughts were that due to the busy summer we might wait to offer the Winter Webinar series or just might choose to offe r the last class of the series. 2
3 Shelter House request for help via . Esther Retish explained that it is regards to the space across from Mecca. Esther will contact Shannon with an to recruit someone help with this project. It would be considered an independent project if interested. Sherlyn Flesher has compositing supplies to offer for use or to donate for plant sale. Few leftover items asking for approval to donate the books and VSH to the MG library (approved) and other items to be donated to the Flea Market (approved). The Federated Garden Club Event. Info to be passed around. Flyer passed around and put on the extension front counter. State Master Gardener Committee- Shannon has become a member. Shannon will help by relaying information from the state office and if you have any information you would like passed on to the state office including success stories, questions, or interests please let her know. Fall Potluck Will be in September. Please start thinking about this. Barb might already have some entertainment. To be discussed further at the next meeting. Non-Core Project Updates Lavon was unable to attend. This will be discussed further at the next meeting. Committee updates i.e. the roles of Mike M., Jackie W., and Sharon J. Sharon Jeter stepped up to help co-chair the steering committee with Lavon, Jackie W. is taking over leadership of the Speaker s Bureau, and Mike Murphy stepped up to co-chair the Butterfly Garden project with Carolyn Murphy. Outstanding Master Gardener Update Information packets/missing information/official letter to those that have withdrawn or are not responding. Went through list of names and asked that if anyone with outstanding packet or information on their packets to contact Shannon. And if anyone who is in touch with people not present to ask them to contact Shannon at the extension office. 3
4 Fall Master Gardener training classes. Preparation is beginning. Preparation is beginning and more information will be coming. Nicole will touch base with Shannon to discuss face-to-face speakers. Sertoma group looking for a speaker. request. Given to Jackie. Speaker Bureau. MG garden walks this summer. An will be sent out asking if anyone is interested for 2015 or Sharon will Shannon. about possible other fundraisers. Project Green s events might be considered as examples. The group would like to concentrate on current fundraisers. Date for Next Meeting: June 10 th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. No meeting in July. Thymes Deadline: May 26 th, 2015 New Items: New Business Libby Stroud passed away last November. Consideration of a memorial plaque at Plum Grove. (Approved) Betty will get the plaque. Betty asked Sharon and Nicole to baby sit some heirloom tomatoes. Requesting more help. Mike, Carolyn, and Loren will help coordinate and planting of the coffee tree. Alice Linhart discussed the Girl Bosses request on Facebook. Response will direct them to Shannon and then the Speakers Bureau. 4

Demonstration Garden - Sherlyn Flesher, Jon and Kristel Saxton- Tilled and started planting. Well on their way. Seeds were ordered. Firefighter Memorial - Barb Schintler None. Fair Grounds Beautification Lavon Yeggy, Mardi Rasmussen rain garden Joan Dinnel, Stella Clark - flower garden Johnson County Fair/4-H Buckets of Flowers, Scarecrow, & Misc. Mary Lou Gay, Lavon, plus need a new coordinator. Joan- They had a walk through and had a few show up. If extra help is needed Joan will let us know. Sheryln We would like to recruit help for someone to promote the Scarecrow and Bucket of Flowers more with the 4-her s. (Camie Marshek is the 4-H Youth Coordinator who can be contacted with questions.) Hortline Esther Retish, Lynn Todd Doing well. People are showing interest and are showing up. Esther also explained what the Village is. Located on Old West Branch road. If anyone is interested in helping. Raptor Center - Alice Linhart, Karole Fuller They are in maintenance mode. Plum Grove & Taste of the Garden - Betty Kelly, Joanne Leach, Lavon Yeggy, Carolyn Murphy- Need more cooks. Gardens are being cleaned up. Mulch and compost added. Speakers Bureau Jackie Wellborn Luncheon talk at ACT was done and will follow up with Sertoma request. Thymes- Jan Denehy Please send pictures and reports on things after projects have been started or finished for success stories to be put in the Thymes. Continue to get items for September issue. Hospice Garden at Willow Creek Park - Melanie Haupert Weeding and trying to keep ahead of the seedlings. Melanie s was read to pass on her report. Ecumenical Towers - Jane Zukin None. Solon High School - Tracy Hufford. Gardens are doing well. Coralville Historical School House - Cindy Parsons None. Fundraising/Flea Market - Barb Krug- Not present but is preparing for the upcoming event. Butterfly Garden at Fairgrounds: Carolyn Murphy, Barb Krug Mike has been added to the leader committee.
