2 Introduction Welcome to Church Road Hanworth Allotments. This pack should give you all the information you need to get your way around owning an allotment. Today growing your own food is more popular than it has been for decades. Not since the days of our parents and grandparents has there been such a demand for allotments. Much of this rebirth of interest comes from our desire to live as healthily as possible. Dig over a patch of land, sow some seeds and unless you completely neglect your growing plants, you re certain to end up with something you can eat. But with a little knowledge, a bit of advance planning and some regular care and maintenance, there s no reason why you shouldn t be harvesting crops to feed you and your family throughout the year. Part of the fun of growing your own fruit and vegetables is the fact that you are always learning. There are new techniques to try, new crops and new varieties to grow and new challenges to grapple with. Allotments are hard work, but can be very satisfying once the produce starts growing. More information can be found on our Website: Plots come in two sizes. 5 or 10 Rods. (A Rod is a unit of length equal to 5½ yards 5 meter Approx.) A 10 Rod plot is approx. 90 ft. * 30ft 2014 prices 10 Rod - 65 per year - 5 Rod per year 50% discount for pensioners. ( for 10 rods) Gate Key 6.00 / Toilet Key 3.50 Hints on starting off Don t try to get too much done in one go, it will wear you out and you will lose all faith in owning a plot. There are plenty of people around that will always give advice. Join the association, and make use of the tools for hire. Use old carpet to cover any unused area. It will kill off weeds and make things easier when you come to work that area. Wooden pallets are handy for making shed bases, or compost bins. Wood, plastic bottles, etc can be recycled to use at the allotment. Keep a first aid kit in your toolbox. Discount Card is available from Adrian Hall Garden Centre.

3 Plot Guidelines 1. Gates must be locked at all times. 2. Plots must be clearly numbered. 3. No one is permitted onto another plot unless authorised by the plot holder. And no items are to be removed from a plot without the permission of the plot holder, even if the plot looks vacant. 4. Strictly no Fires on any plot. 5. Hosepipes can only be used to fill water butts. You are not permitted to have the hose running whilst you are watering your plot. The right to use a hosepipe can be rescinded at any time by the council, so please don t abuse this privilege. 6. Children on site must be supervised at all times. 7. Dogs must be kept on a lead and any mess they make must be cleared immediately. 8. The car park is for cars only; it is not a playground or football pitch. Cars have been damaged before in this area, due to children playing in the car park. 9. Site Speed limit is 5mph and must be adhered to. Anyone found breaking the limit may be asked to leave his or her vehicle outside the allotment site. 10. No dumping of rubbish on the site, you are responsible for your rubbish. 11. Road surfaces adjacent to your plot are your responsibility. Please keep them tidy and not blocked. Please park in the car parks and not in the roads. Pathways between plots must be kept clear and maintained. 12. Woodchip is now being delivered on a regular basis. This is for use on the site only and must not be removed from the site. Please do not take woodchip from a pile on someone s plot. 13. Compost must be contained within the plot holder s own plot. 14. If you forget your key, please do not call out to other plot holders to open the gate. They are busy and you will have to go home to get your key or wait till someone else arrives and opens the gate. Gate key 6 and Toilet key s 3.50 are available to purchase. 15. Your plot must be kept tidy and maintained on a regular basis. You should aim for approx 80% cultivated during the growing season, otherwise you are at risk for getting a Non Cultivation letter, which can result in eviction from the plot. This is is a Council Rule, and the site is checked on a regular basis. Any offenders could be issued with a warning or eviction notice. 16. Anyone verbally or physically abusing committee members will be reported to the council, and could result in instant eviction with no appeal. 17. There are no First Aid Facilities on site. Please keep your own First Aid kit on site at all times. 18. The council suggest leaving a 2 foot gap between you and your neighbours plot to create a path, although this is not enforced.

No Cockerels are to be kept on plots and These plots are close to the houses and we receive numerous complaints about the noise first thing in the morning. A new rule sanctioned by John Laings is to be carried out by the allotment association. Committee members will carry out a monthly regular and random inspection of all chicken runs, coupes and rabbit hutches on the church road site. The inspection is to make sure there is sufficient food & clean water for the livestock and the buildings are kept clean and hygienic. If it is found that the owners of said livestock are neglecting these points they will be reported to John Laings and the RSPCA with the result of eviction from their plot and prosecution by the RSPCA. John Laings will also carry out periodic and unannounced inspections themselves. All plot holders keeping livestock must give us a contact number. Anyone wishing to keep livestock must tell the committee first. Thanks for your co-operation John Davis - Chairman Please call: with your contact number
