2 INTRO More than ever we need our homes to be places where we can relax, recharge and press pause on a fast paced 24/7 world. Creating a sanctuary where you can truly be yourself and enjoy every inch of your outdoor space just as much as the inside is what this edition of the Outdoor Edit is all about. This year, we explored how the nation tackles their garden projects and found that the easiest way to make a transformation is with three simple projects: fence, furniture and frills. Your fence is the backdrop to your space, and once complete, you can build a colour palette around it to reflect the mood of your garden. Add signature furniture items to give your space a purpose, and complete the look with accessories, or 'frills' as we like to call them. Using this as inspiration, each trend in this year's edit can be broken down into these simple steps, showing how easy it is to make your garden an extension of your home. Our 2018 trends capture a sense of what home really means to us as individuals. We have created three colour stories that bring this to life in the garden: The Comforting Garden, The Inviting Garden and The Playful Garden. The colour of the year 2018, Heart Wood, features in every look this year. It has a visually soothing appeal that makes outdoor spaces instantly welcoming and works effortlessly with every style of decorating. This queen of natures neutrals also has the magical quality of subtly changing as the sun moves across the sky, making it look fresh and interesting in every kind of British weather.

5 INTRO The Comforting Garden is your own personal sanctuary, a space where you can connect with nature and shut out the noise and pressures of the outside world. This trend uses layers of warm colours to create a cosy space that embraces everyone you invite to enjoy it with you. 7 Place the trellis on your mirror and mark where you'll need to cut Cut the trellis to size using a hand saw. Using your paintbrush or small roller, apply your favourite Cuprinol Garden Shades colour. Apply two coats to the trellis. Remember to let your paint dry thoroughly between coats. Apply glue to one side of the plywood. 04 Push the mirror firmly down onto the plywood, and leave until the glue dries. 05 Apply glue to the back of trellis, push down firmly onto the front of the mirror and allow to dry before screwing to the fence with brackets. 06 COMPLETE THE LOOK For a cosy finish with minimal fuss, why not wind some fairy lights and faux ivy around the mirror? 10 Treat your whole table to a makeover by applying two coats of Cuprinol Garden Shades with a small roller or brush. This will ensure it's protected against the elements for the next six years. 01 Position the tiles evenly over the surface of the table and stick them down one by one with a generous layer of glue Mask round the tile you are going to decorate then position the stencil and hold it in place with masking tape. Apply a thin, even layer of Cuprinol Garden Shades with a foam roller and allow to dry before removing masking tape. 04 Repeat this step on alternate tiles until you've got a statement table top! 05 VOILA! You've got a brand new outdoor table for sharing the best nibbles from your barbeque.

12 Sand the surface of the wood until it's smooth. Apply a coat of Cuprinol Wood Preserver with a brush or small roller and allow to dry Paint the main section with two coats of Cuprinol Garden Shades (use a paintbrush for tricky areas like the edges of drawers, and a roller for large flat areas). Give your furniture time to dry between coats. Unscrew the handles from your dresser and paint in a contrasting colour to get the most eye-catching result. TOP TIP: USE SCREWS TO MAKE IT EASIER TO HOLD THE DOOR HANDLES WHILE YOU PAINT THEM. Paint the top of the dresser in two coats of the second colour using your small roller, and brush for hard to get places. 17 01 Drill drainage holes in the bottom of the wooden crate and sand off the rough edges to keep your herbs healthy. This will allow the water to drain and stop the wood from rotting. Drill a hole for the rope in each corner and sand smooth Apply two coats of your favourite Cuprinol Garden Shades colour inside and out, allowing it to dry thoroughly between coats (green herbs look great against Coastal Mist!). Cut four equal lengths of rope then thread each one through the holes in the corners and tie them on securely. 04 Attach the ropes to a metal hanging ring with a knot. 05 Once hung on your bracket, fill your brand new planter with your favourite herbs, ready to be added to your salad at your next barbecue! 06 TOP TIPS: USE A HAIR GRIP TO MAKE PULLING THE ROPE THROUGH THE HOLES EASIER. 20 Pick up your paintbrush and start by painting the legs with your first colour. Apply two coats and allow to dry Tape off the edges where the legs meet the ladders steps. Let's roll! Apply two coats of your second colour with a small roller and brush. Don't forget to let the paint dry between coats. 04 Once dry, you're ready to start arranging your vertical garden. Give trailing plants the penthouse step and place shade-loving herbs like chives, coriander and parsley on the bottom. FINALLY.. sit back and relax and watch your herbs thrive.
