2 Northwest Idea # 1087 Accessible Toddler Playground in Northwest London Addition of a toddler playground a bench and some large trees for shade to be added to Plane Tree Park. Total Cost = $50,000 Toddler Playground - $40,000; Bench - $1,500; 5 Trees - $8500 Trees for shade would provide relief from the hot sun and younger children will have a playground of their own to play on while a caregiver can watch comfortably on the bench. 3 Northwest Idea # 4775 Bat Boxes in Masonville Installation of poles with bat houses on the top located in places of high mosquito populations in the Masonville neighbourhood. Total Cost = $1,000 4 Bat Houses on Poles - $1,000 Less mosquitos (which would reduce diseases such as West Nile) and help the dwindling bat population. Residential Streets in the Masonville Area

4 Northwest Idea # 1120 Bench in Oakridge Shopping District Install a bench on the roadside on the way to the Oakridge shopping district so that can rest on their walk along the way. Total Cost = $2,500 Bench Installation - $2,500 A bench allows those who have disabilities or older adults to rest when needed when in the community. Oakridge Shopping District

5 Northwest Idea # 1118 Benches in Northwest London Parks Add 8 more benches into Northwest Parks such as Riverbend and Oakridge. Total Cost = $20,000 8 Benches - $20,000 The Age Friendly London Network has determined that more seating is needed in Northwest area parks to encourage more older adults to use the parks, to exercise and socialize. 6 Northwest Idea # 1084 Bicycle Rodeo & Bike Racks in Nor West Optimist Park Artistic bike racks installed at Nor West Optimist Park and a bike rodeo for the community to celebrate biking. Total Cost = $7,000 Artistic Bike Racks - $5,000; Rodeo - $2,000 The Rodeo will provide residents with safety training and can coincide with celebrating the new path to the existing system through Nor West Optimist Park. 7 Northwest Idea # 1081 Bicycle Safety Event in Plane Tree Park A family event to promote wearing helmets. The event may include activities, food, giveaways and speakers. Total Cost = $2,200 Stage, sound system - $825; Tables and chairs - $575; Photographer and entertainment - $300; Food and Misc - $500 The event will bring neighbourhood families together and safety awareness will be promoted. 8 Northwest Idea # 4822 Blackacres Park Playground Expansion Addition of accessible playground slides and climbers for younger children. A playground that is bright, colourful, safe, creative and interactive. The goal would be to include activities that help with gross motor skills and encourages kids use their imagination. Total Cost = $40,000 Playground base circle - $20,000; Equipment - $20,000 Blackacres Park will be able to accomodate more children and children of all ages as the neighbourhood grows in size. It s a great family area that will only be enhanced by additional playground equipment. This park will compliment the neighbouring park - Coronation Park. Blackacres Park

9 Northwest Idea # 4729 Cantebury Park Wood Chip Improvement Replacing the sand at the play structure with wood chips. Total Cost = $10,000 Replace Surface with Wood Chips - $10,000 Replacing the existing sand with wood chips would be a terrific upgrade to Cantebury Park. The wood chips would be both safer and cleaner for the children using the playground equipment. Because of this park s access to bike trails, it is used by people who live outside the immediate neighbourhood, as well as by those who live nearby. Many people would benefit from this enhancement. 10 Northwest Idea # 1078 Medway Valley Heritage Forest ESA Kiosk A large kiosk at the Sunningdale Road entrance to the Medway Valley Heritage Forest informing visitors on the importance of this forest, both historically and culturally and why it have been designated an Environmentally Signifi cant Area.. Total Cost = $15,000 Kiosk - $15,000 This kiosk will provide community members with information about the area. It will create awareness around why preservation of the forest is important. 11 Northwest Idea # 1074 Multi-use pad in St. Anthony s Park A multi-use concrete pad in the park that could be used as an ice rink in the winter and a basketball court in the summer. Total Cost = $50,000 Concrete pad - $30,000;Curbs and Pathways - $20,000 The addition of this pad to the park would compliment the existing tennis court, and would encourage use of the park year-round. This would also help foster community connections for new families living in Hazelden. 12 Northwest Idea # 1090 Nature Sanctuary in Hyde Park An improved green space and outdoor education centre near St. John Catholic French Immersion School to include a variety of natural gardens and a shade pergola. Total Cost = $30,000 Land Development - $20,000; Pergola - $10,000 Hundreds of children will benefit from this nature sanctuary, and parents will benefit knowing their child is going to a safe, sustainable and fun area. 13 Northwest Idea # 4939 Neighborhood Outdoor Hockey Rink in Coronation Park Install a multi-use pad for Neighborhood Outdoor Hockey Rink in Coronation Park North Total Cost = $50,000 Multi-use pad - $35,000; Pathway - $7,500; Benches - $5,000; Trees - $2,500 Our community would greatly benefit from a space in the park where kids and families can play ball hockey in the spring through fall and ice hockey in the winter. They encourage safe and healthy physical fitness and provide neighbours a chance to get outside and connect in the cold winter months. 14 Northwest Idea # 1119 Ninja Student Drop Zone Drop your little student ninjas and ninjettes at the Ninja Student Drop Zone designated by the masked ninja to begin their 5-minute ninja walk to school. Our ninjas and ninjettes will use their powers for good by reducing traffic in our school zones and by defending the environment by walking. Total Cost = $15,000 Signage to mark drop-off points & communication materials - $15,000 The Ninja Student Drop Zone will create an opportunity for children to engage in daily physical activity and reduce traffic in school zones making them safer. 15 Northwest Idea # 4915 Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course Phase 2 Expand the current installation of a Canadian Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course to include possibly a spider walk, balance rope ladder, warped wall and monkey peg overhead bars. Total Cost = $35,000 Ninja Warrior elements - $35,000 Phase 1 will be installed later this year and phase 2 will make a great continuation of outdoor space and will incorporate fi tness into this area. Phase 2 will be built so that we can continue to make The Ninja course bigger and better for all ages and skill levels. Last year in Phase 1 we realized that the equipment was more expensive than originally thought. So a portion of the money needed to complete Phase 2 will be raised through fundraising in the community. 16 Northwest Idea # 4888 Nor West Optimist Park Gazebo & Charcoal BBQ s Adding a picnic area with gazebo and BBQs to Nor West Optimist Park. Total Cost = $50,000 BBQs - $2000; Picnic Table and Concrete Pad - $5000; Picnic Table - $6000; Gazebo and Path - $37,000 There isn t any shelter in the park for those rainy days or to just get out of the sun. The idea is to have a shelter which would include some picnic tables and a couple of charcoal BBQ s, similar to what Springbank Park has, only on a smaller scale. The Nor West Optimist group is committed to making this park an amazing place for families. Norwest Optimist Park

17 Northwest Idea # 4942 Park Structure for Young Children New accessible swing in a new play circle added to Sugarcreek Park. Total Cost = $40,000 New Play Circle - $25,000; Accessible Swing and Slide - $15,000 A new toddler play circle to give the younger children something to play with. That park has a structure for the older kids but not for toddlers. Sugarcreek Park

18 Northwest Idea # 1085 Plane Tree Park Recreational Courts Add a basketball court to Plane Tree Park. Total Cost = $30,000 Basketball Court - $30,000 These courts would encourage physical activity, and more use of the park itself. Plane Tree Park

19 Northwest Idea # 4741 Refinishing Tennis Court in A.L. Furanna Park Refinishing tennis court in A.L. Furanna Park. Total Cost = $50,000 Resurfacing the Court - $50,000 It will be more enjoyable for tennis players to play on a better surface. This court is used by residents throughout the Northwest and probably beyond given its location. A.L. Furanna Park

20 Northwest Idea # 1077 Riverbend Bus Shelter A London Transit Commission bus shelter for Route 17B, at the intersection of Kains and Shore Road. Total Cost = $7,700 Bus Shelter - $6,000; Concrete Pad - $1,700 This structure would allow shelter in inclement weather for area residents of all ages. Kains and Shore Road

21 Northwest Idea # 4805 Riverbend Park Shade Install a gazebo in Riverbend Park for shade. Total Cost = $35,000 Gazebo - $35,000 Shade structure will increase park attendance in the Summer, when the sun makes it too hot for the neighbourhood to play at the park. This is a great park, however the trees are too young and don t provide any shade. 22 Northwest Idea # 1075 Snake Creek First Nations Artwork Mural Create a First Nations mural along both sides of path on the Snake Creek underpass at Wonderland Road near the Museum of Ontario Archeology on Attawandaron Road. This mural would attempt to offset the graffiti damage that currently exists. This area is designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA). Total Cost = $12,000 Artist fee - $6,000; Boom Truck & Training - $2,000; Materials & Supplies - $2,500; Graffiti Coating - $1,500 This mural would enhance the space, and would acknowledge the important First Nations history of the area.
