Hello and welcome to our latest volunteering opportunities bulletin. Please forward this onto anybody you know who might be interested in doing some voluntary work. There should also be a PDF attached so you can print this out or attach to websites. If you like the sound of one of our volunteering opportunities, please give Julie a call on or office.admin@vcnw.org.uk. She ll give you some more details and arrange for you to come into the office for a chat. Here s what we ve got on offer for you: Administrator BOB Bus Basic Skills Advisor Community Hub Assistant Coleshill Decorator Fundraising Volunteer Garden Maintenance and Development Volunteer Kitchen and Vegetable Gardeners Library Volunteers Orchard Volunteers Planning Officer Reed Bed Planter Scout Leader / Helper Seed Production and Sales Volunteer Social Group Volunteer Administrator Do you want some administration experience? A volunteering opportunity at Victim Support could help you get it. They are looking for someone to do tasks such as filing, photocopying and faxing.
You will also be required to organise events, meetings, book rooms as well as maintaining records and developing databases. You will also be the first point of contact for visitors and telephone enquiries. Bob Bus Basic Computer Skills Advisor The BOB bus has revived itself as a mobile IT unit which will be travelling around North Warwickshire a couple of days a week. People can go on board and register with to do some simple courses, teaching them the basics of logging on and how to set up an etc If you like computers and would enjoy helping others make the most of the Internet, you could join our team as a volunteer computer skills advisor. You will be chatting to people on the bus, encouraging them to log on and helping them to get started. You can log on at home to see how the courses work by going to and registering with the centre code Community Hub Assistant Coleshill Could you help your local community hub? People in Coleshill are being urged to come forward to volunteer in their local hub. The hub helps people in the town in many ways. Part of the role is to show people how to use a Freephone to connect them with the North Warwickshire Borough Council offices in Atherstone. Another part of the role is to help them on the computer by scanning in and sending documents to the council. No experience needed, full training given.
Decorator A keen painter is needed to volunteer to do some decorating in Atherstone. The Volunteer Centre s very own Help at Hand project knows someone in need who requires some decorating doing. The project supports the elderly, sick and disabled by finding them volunteers to help them out. You don t have to be a skilled decorator, but must enjoy doing the work. All materials are provided and any expenses paid. Fundraising Volunteer Victim Support are looking for people to help the organisation raise money. As a volunteer you will join a fundraising group in your area and get involved in organising activities such as supermarket bucket collections or street collections. If you like organising events, the charity wouldn t mind you setting up a jumble or cake sale, a quiz night, fun days and fetes. Other roles include researching potential supporters business owners, local celebrities etc Speakers are also needed to talk about Victim Support to local groups, churches and clubs. Garden Maintenance and Development Volunteer The Thisledome Community Centre and Garden are looking for volunteers to help with the maintenance and development of their site in Galley Common. The land is landscaped with wildlife gardens, ponds, bog gardens, herbaceous borders, ornamental trees, and ever expanding plant collections, including herbaceous plants, rare trees, alpines and woodland plants. There are more plans to develop and extend the existing gardens to include a Japanese garden.
This is a great opportunity to get involved in some outdoor work with your local community, work with other user groups and volunteers. No qualifications required, the charity seeks people with no horticultural experience and those with more in depth experience. The onsite Manager will oversee all work done and give appropriate training and instruction as required. Kitchen and Vegetable Garden Volunteers The Thisledome Community Centre and Garden are also looking for volunteers to help with the maintenance and development of their kitchen / vegetable garden. There s also a soft fruit and vegetable growing area to get stuck into. The garden is based in Galley common and is used by groups of people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. It s main aim is to promote physical and mental wellbeing. Library Volunteers A community library in Baddesley is looking for people to help with day to day running. As a volunteer you will be organising the books, logging them in and out. Get in touch if you fancy finding out more. Orchard Volunteer Warwickshire Wildlife Trust requires volunteers to manage and maintain their orchard for the enjoyment of visitors at the Brandan Marsh Nature Centre. The work involves keeping paths clear, removing excess nettle, dock and bramble and maintaining the fruit trees. This is a great opportunity if you are interested in the environment and wildlife.
Planning Officer CPRE Warwickshire exists to protect the county's countryside. Volunteer planning officers monitor planning applications within a defined area (normally that of a Local Authority, such as North Warwickshire Borough Council or Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council). Where they see a threat to the countryside they oppose the application. More volunteer planning officers are needed to join the team. A lot of the work can be done at home with the use of a computer, though on occasions it might be necessary to visit a site. There are some quarterly meetings at the offices to discuss planning issues around the county Reed Bed Planting Kingsbury Water Park s looking for some help at their nature reserve. They need people to volunteer their time to plant reeds in the water margins of Cliff Pool. For more information, get in touch now. Scout Leader / Helper Mancetter scouts are looking for people to help them run their sessions for young people in North Warwickshire. A Volunteer Scout Leader is required to help with the scout club opportunities for boys and girls by supporting them with new adventures and challenges. Training will be given and volunteers are encouraged to get involved with the activities of the Scouting organisation. Seed Production and Sales Volunteer A charity gardening project is putting together an extensive seed catalogue to sell seeds through the internet and to visiting customers. Volunteers are needed at The Thisledome Community Centre and Garden in galley Common to collect and process seeds, as well as sorting out seed orders. Part of the role will be looking at how the organisation can market and sell the seeds. On sale are vegetable and fruit seeds as well as ornamental garden and tree seeds. An ability to use computers would be beneficial to help with marketing and production of labels and seed packets.
All products produced are sold to fund the valuable work done by the charity. Social Group Coordinator Volunteers are needed to help run sessions for deafblind young people in North Warwickshire. Sense Get Out there Group work with 6 25 year olds providing weekly activities for them, as well as some weekend trips and some longer residential trips. Activities range from rock climbing, kayaking, and rambling to crafts and music sessions. You don t need to have any previous experience of volunteering or working with people with a sensory loss, as all training is provided. However, any knowledge of the different methods of communication, such as sign language and / or Makaton would be extremely beneficial. Volunteering is a great way to try something new, gain more skills, meet new people and get some experience on your CV. Find out how you can use volunteering to get a job by coming to our Job Club on Tuesdays 1 3pm. Enhance your life, Get in touch now on
