2 Sheffield Spring Flower Show 2016 Page 3 Welcome to the 2016 Sheffield Spring Flower Show The Sheffield Spring Flower Show is thought to be the oldest continuously run flower show in Tasmania, if not Australia. Since early 1900 s the show has been staged in Sheffield. Originally it was more of a country fair showcasing local produce, animals, arts and crafts and a great deal more. In the early days, the highlight of the event was a dinner dance held on the Saturday night. The show has evolved since then, moving to focus on plants especially daffodils and cut flowers. Of course there has always been produce available for sale, along with light refreshments for patrons. In response to feedback from the local community, we have decided to broaden the appeal of our show. Whilst the focus is still on flowers and plants, we are pleased to introduce new categories of photography and vegetable art. Additionally this year we are focusing on children with a potting area set up for children to plant and take home their very own flower or vegetable seedling. In addition to the floral displays, we are delighted to introduce our guest artist this year Brenda Haas who has remarkable botanical art skills. For those of you interested in producing the maximum amount of fruit and vegetables from a very small area such as a back garden, Robert & Eileen Millet will be on hand to showcase and explain what can be done with a small area (their book will also available for sale). Finally, our very own beekeeping group a subset of the Kentish Garden Club will be available to share their experiences in beekeeping. We hope you enjoy our expanded show, and we welcome you to the Sheffield Spring Flower Show for Page 4 Sheffield Spring Flower Show 2016 SHOW RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 1. All exhibits (Daffodils, Cut Flowers, Floral & Vegetable Art, photography) to be staged between 11 am & 1 pm on FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER. 2. Judging commences at 2 pm on FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER. The judges' decision will be final. 3. All floral exhibits must be the property of, and be grown by the Exhibitor, except in Floral and Vegetable Art where the exhibit MUST be designed and arranged by the Exhibitor. 4. With the sole exception of classes 7 and 14, displays in the flower and foliage section may not be wired for support. 5. The Stewards will direct Exhibitors on staging and will be of assistance if you need any. All exhibits MUST have a white dot attached, showing class number on top, and Exhibitor s number below. 6. Exhibits may not be removed until after the presentations on Sunday 16 October, without the consent of the Stewards. CATEGORIES: Exhibitor No. Beginner any age. Vegetables and fruit may be decorated in any manner, but it must be obvious that vegetables or fruit are being used d. No carving into the flesh of fruits or vegetables.
