It was one of the world s first steel framed, glass curtain walled buildings and soon became the inspiration behind several 1880 s American skyscrapers. Over the years the building s interior has change threefold but when Bruntwood bought the building in 2006 its mission was to bring the building back to life, unearthing its Victorian history once more. The original oriel windows its most defining feature are still beautifully intact, offering an abundance of natural light and character to every space. Did you know? Architect Paul Ellis was only known for one other building. 16 Cook Street in Liverpool was the world s second building to follow the same architectural model as Oriel, just one year later. The ground floor of the building has been the home to Oriel Chambers Barristers since 1965, who were the inspiration behind what is now one of the grandest entrances in the city. As a nod to the buildings architectural history, Oriel has had a modern yet complementary makeover emphasising on the light and space within it. The original cast iron columns and barrel vaulted ceilings can be seen throughout and have been paired with traditional furniture and décor. The corridors themselves have been turned into exhibition space for art installations, which complement the mix of creatively-driven customers that occupy the workspace perfectly. Not only do they support local artists but they bring the corridors to life and give each of the floors a personality of its own. The full-length corridors act as a natural divide, creating a range of spaces in all different shapes and sizes; it is these smaller more characterful spaces that have attracted the likes of MgMa and Peace of Mind to the building. 4 5

Love Plane originally appeared in London in 2011, however days later it was removed leaving no trace. During that same week, a near identical piece appeared in Liverpool where it remains to this day. Bike storage Ultra-fast broadband Lift access Close to amenities During WWII a German bomb destroyed the rear of Oriel, exposing the frame and innovative curtain wall construction. The damage was repaired almost 20 years later, by James & Bywaters but now only 12 of the 20 original window bays exist. As part of these repairs, James & Bywaters also built a new extension, which today is known as Covent Garden. Although the architects replicated the original bays, the 1960 s style façade offers a completely different look and feel to the front of the building. Accessible via the central corridor at Oriel, Covent Garden is currently in the midst of a 500,000 refurbishment project that will see the building brought back to life. The ceilings are being stripped back to expose the original soffits and architectural suspended light fittings are being installed throughout. After the success of other small suites schemes in Liverpool, each floor will be split to provide bespoke spaces, with offices ranging from 100-3,000 sq ft. Each floor will have brand new toilet and kitchen facilities and meeting and breakout spaces.
