2 Southwest Idea # 4626 Add a Swing Set to Grandview Park (in Byron) Add a swing set to Grand View Park (in Byron). Total Cost = $15,000 Swings - $5,000; Play circle and surfacing - $10,000 Kids love swings. Adding a swing set to Grand View Park will provide children of all ages with another play area. This will attract more people to the park, thereby continuing to develop the great sense of community that exists within Byron. Grand View Park

3 Southwest Idea # 1123 Benches and Trash Cans in White Oaks Park Adding ten benches and ten trash cans in White Oaks Park at entrance points and large sports fields. Total Cost = $25, Benches with Concrete Pad - $20,000; 10 Garbage Bins - $5,000 Allow families to sit together and enjoy the outdoor space. Encourage dog owners to dispose of their dog waste. 4 Southwest Idea # 1103 Byron Hills Park Improvements Add a half court basketball court, chip and dust path, additional benches, and a new small piece of playground equipment. Neighbourhood residents also plan on adopting the park and planting trees with Reforest London. Total Cost = $20,000 Half Basketball Court - $10,000; Chips & Dust Path - $6,000; Play Equipment - $4,000 These improvements will allow older kids to play in the park, create a safe place for kids to bike, and also allow people to walk through the park during the wet season. 5 Southwest Idea # 4930 City Fit Path Install fitness signs on chain link fence of the pathway. Total Cost = $2,000 Exercise Signage and Installation - $2000 City Fit Path is an exercise trail depicting simple, equipment-free activities for people of all ages. The coloured images feature universal instructions for simple body weight exercises. City Fit Path transforms public landscapes into fun, playful spaces that encourage physical movement, social interactions, and a strong sense of community well-being. 6 Southwest Idea # 1133 Community Beehives The Community Beehives will be managed by a collective of small scale urban beekeepers. The collective would keep urban honey bees (about 4-6 hives) and would also host workshops with the public about pollinator gardening, small scale beekeeping, and creating pollinator habitats. Total Cost = $8,000 Behives - $8,000 People are interested in learning about bees, the pollinator crisis, small-scale beekeeping, and using the products of the hive (honey, beeswax, etc). This will be a way for them to learn skills, share ideas, and co-exist with bees. Boler Mountain

7 Southwest Idea # 1127 Community Info Board A community info board at the corner of Viscount and Cranbrook Roads, beside the walkway. A community info board would also enable neighbourhood residents to communicate with others, example: looking for lost pets, asking for/offering services in the neighbourhood, therefore increasing hyper-local connections. Total Cost = $5,000 Install Community Info Board - $5,000 A community info board would help to make our neighbourhood a better place in a number of ways. It would provide our neighbourhood association a dedicated space to display information and to connect with those members of the community who we might be missing. 8 Southwest Idea # 1022 Cresthaven Park Improvements Add a pathway, chess table, snakes and ladders table, and new play equipment in Cresthaven Park. Total Cost = $50,000 Park Improvements - $50,000 These improvements would increase use of the park and give more recreation opportunities to the surrounding community. 9 Southwest Idea # 4614 Earl Nichols Park Pathway Enhancement Build a pathway through Earl Nichols Park. Total Cost = $15,000 Pathway - $15,000 The trail system in Earl Nichols Park turns from pavement to dirt as you enter the wooded area. The trail on the North side of Ferndale Avenue is a well maintained gravel trail. This pathway enhancement will upgrade the dirt to gravel improving trail accessibility and access to the park. 10 Southwest Idea # 1130 Eat Your Weeds! Initiative There are many plants growing in the city that while considered weeds are extremely useful as a food source. This initiative includes the creation of a series of seasonal cooking workshops, foraging walks, information materials (with recipes), and organized community harvests. Total Cost = $2,500 Workshop Costs - $2,500 This helps to create a better neighbourhood in several ways, including: helping people to deal with weeds in less harmful ways; encourages the consumption of highly nutritious foods, and; reduces the presence of some invasive plants. Total Cost = $10,000 Expanded Basketball Court - $10,000 More people can play basketball at any one time. This will allow for more recreation and community connections. Cresthaven Park

13 Southwest Idea # 4923 Jesse Davidson Park Parking Lot Safety Paving the parking lot of Jesse Davidson Park and increasing safety by adding different safety measures. Total Cost = $50,000 Paving Parking Lot - $50,000 Paving the parking lot will decrease the noise and dust/dirt in the neighbourhood. This will be the beginning of partnership with the City to increase safety in the parking lot, and safety as a whole. Jesse Davidson Park

Total Cost = $5,000 Installation of Wall of Fame - $5,000 This will provide an opportunity for community members to see where their children can strive to go in the game of hockey. 15 Southwest Idea # 4948 Longworth Lush Leisure Garden Lush aromatic, pollinator friendly, garden with raised container beds located in the Southeast corner of the Reservoir Community Gardens area in the Westmount Community of London. Total Cost = $7,400 Pollinator Garden and container beds, materials and installation - $7,400 This will create an inviting, relaxing space for people to explore and relax. Sensory appeal will be found in the many types of aromatic scents and visual beauty of the many seasonal fl owers and aural stimulation from the environment. This project will serve to beautify the area, discourage unlawful dumping and invite the community to visit and relax or wander. Reservoir Community Garden in Westmount

16 Southwest Idea # 4883 Make Mitches Park A Gem Again Add a bump-out to the existing play circle and install play equipment designed for younger children, between the ages of 2 and 5. Total Cost = $40,000 Concrete bump-out from existing play circle - $30,000; New Play Equipment - $10,000 The neighbourhood demographic is changing and more and more families with young children are moving in the area. A better, more updated playground, with enough activities for younger children will make this unique London gem even better! This will encourage more physical activity in our youngsters and make this beautiful outdoor area more attractive for children. I also want to highlight that the current play area is not designed for younger children. Diversify access by designing a more childfriendly park and and improve the quality of life for all children living in the area. Mitches Park

17 Southwest Idea # 4684 Multi Use Activity Area for Basketball or Ball Hockey Multi Use activity area for basketball or ball hockey. Total Cost = $35,000 Basketball Court - $25,000; Pathway and Levelling - $10,000 Adding this activity to the park and neighborhood will allow kids/adults of all ages to enjoy the park with a basketball court in the warmer weather months or even enjoy street/road hockey games on the surface. 18 Southwest Idea # 1162 Natural Playscape and Community Sandbox A natural playscape is a space with as little man-made components as possible. Instead using native plants, rolling hills, and natural materials such as tree stumps to fill the northern section of the park. Total Cost = $50,000 Creation of Natural Playscape and Community Sandbox - $50,000 This will add another element to an already successful park and recreation area which includes the splash pad, playground, and sports fields. 19 Southwest Idea # 4878 Neighbourhood Basketball Court Addition of a basketball court next to the pathway in Paul Haggis Park. Total Cost = $35,000 Basketball Court - $35,000 A basketball court has the ability to bring many health and social benefits to our neighbourhood. It can build connections between neighborhood residents that might not normally interact. Paul Haggis Park currently does not tailor to many young adults and teens in the way that it could, a basketball court could bring these people together for wholesome fun and physical exercise that may benefit the youth as well. Additionally, many residents would be more willing to bring their little ones to the children s park if they can also enjoy the basketball courts before or after the swing sets and slides. 20 Southwest Idea # 1131 Neighbourhood Bus Stop This initiative will give four homeowners, whose homes are located directly behind/ adjacent to a bus stop, a communitybuilding installation for their neighbourhood. Homeowners can choose to install one of the following in their front yard for public use: Little Free Library (pictured); bench; swap box; or community notice board. Total Cost = $7,500 Construction Materials - $7,500 Bus stops can be places to build community because they are gathering places for people taking transit. This initiative not only seeks to build a cohesive, connected community but to encourage public transit as an enjoyable option. Byron

Total Cost = $50,000 New Play Equipment with Play Circle - $50,000 A Playground will bring our community together. It will also bring children outside because it will be a safe distance from their homes to play. It will lead to more community, safety, friendships, exercise and fresh air. Total Cost = $50,000 Accessible Path and Fitness Equipment - $50,000 There is a lot of research showing that accessibility matters to healthy living. Not everyone can afford a gym membership. Many people understand the importance of exercise. Everyone can afford a few minutes of time a day to feel better and get better. In Europe, there is outdoor fitness equipment in all small towns and big cities. It is very well used. People come to exercise and also to socialize. This will enhance the village atmosphere and help people take pride in the place they have chosen to live, while at the same time, be of great interest to visitors. Total Cost = $21,000 Design for 3 Signs, Production and Installation - $21,000 It will help new and old residents of Byron connect with their past. It will bring a greater understanding, appreciation and interest of the history and age of Byron, knowledge that needs to be available and presented to our residents and visitors to the community. 28 Southwest Idea # 4940 South London Canada Day On Sunday July 1st, 2018 the Community Council of White Oaks, with the help of its generous sponsors is once again proud to provide the South London Community with a sensational Canada Day celebration with live music, food, free inflatable rides and one of London s largest free fireworks display. Our Canada Day celebrations bring together citizens of all backgrounds in a day of inclusion and fun. The investment of family lawn games will help us reduce wait times in line for fun. 29 Southwest Idea # 4924 Summercrest Park Expansion Expand the playground area at Summercrest Park with a bump out from the existing circle and new playground equipment. Total Cost = $35,000 Circle and Playground Equipment - $35,000 An upgrade to the park would allow more kids to enjoy playing in the neighbourhood, encourage kids in the area to get to know each other and it provides a safe and fun environment for outdoor play. Secondly, a great community park is a good way for parents of the neighbourhood to get to know each other. Lastly, the expansion would create a park big enough to allow families from other neighbourhoods to join in the fun. Summercrest Park

30 Southwest Idea # 4861 Update Playground in Rosecliffe Park An update to the older existing playground equipment to include accessible swings for young children and infants. Total Cost = $35,000 Accessible Play Surface and Circle with path - $29,000; Swing - $6,000 Most small neighborhood playgrounds are getting aged and rusty and lack any swings. Total Cost = $50,000 Excavation and Pathway - $50,000 There are a large number of older adults living near Mitches Park. Adding walking paths will make Mitches Park better connected to the existing pathway system and will encourage walking among people of all ages and abilities. This will help make our parks & pathways more age friendly and will support older adults to be active. 32 Southwest Idea # 4832 White Oaks Park Storywalk Installation of storybook page holders on the White Oaks Familiy Centre external building for children to walk around the outside of the building reading a story. These holders will allow the story to be changed multiple times per year. Total Cost = $20,000 Installation of Storywalk - $20,000 A Storywalk will give families an opportunity to engage in literacy and physical activities together as they explore the outside of the White Oaks Family Centre. A Storywalk is a delightful way for children and adults! to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. As you stroll around the building, you re directed to the next page in the story and encouraged to engage in various activities as you progress. 33 Southwest Idea # 1129 Wood Burning Pizza Oven in Springbank Park A community, outdoor pizza oven in the park which can be used for pizza and bread-baking. The oven will be used by the general public but will also be used for workshops and community gatherings. Total Cost = $12,000 Wood Burning Pizza Oven - $6,000 It will provide delicious food and a community gathering space in Springbank Park. The workshops will interest people who want to make fresh, handmade, artisan food. It can involve families and kids. Springbank Park

It encourages a healthy and active population at every stage/age of life. It forces people to be outdoors in nature. Due to all of these reasons, the workout equipment in a park would lead to improved physical and mental health.
