3 ROBERTS FIELD Roberts Field is a family-friendly, neighborhood park located at the corner on Old Westford Road in Chelmsford, MA. The 20 acre town owned property features the popular children s playground Friendship Park, athletic playing fields used by CYB and CLAX, an exercise circuit, and managed natural areas of the park including a shallow pond, a certified wildlife habitat (Pollinator Park), and nature trails (1 mile) through its wetland and forested areas. FRIENDSHIP PARK Friendship Park is an all new, inclusive, nature themed children s playground opening in Summer The universal designed, nature themed playground will provide an experience where people of all ages and abilities can play and have fun, side by side, for generations to come.

4 THE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY The natural areas of Roberts Field include a shallow pond, a certified wildlife habitat (Pollinator Park), native gardens, and nature trails and bridges (1 mile) through its wetland and forested areas. The Town adopted a wildlife-friendly Land Management Plan in 2016 to enhance and protect the park s wildlife habitats and ecology, while providing safe user access to the natural beauty of the park. The Roberts Field Master Plan includes recommended improvements to the park s pond, trees and native gardens. The new inclusive Friendship Park playground will have a nature theme. The term wildlife sanctuary has no legal definition and carries no federal or state application, management considerations, oversight or protections. It would not be considered part of state's wildlife sanctuary system, and would effectively be a name like "XYZ Park". - per Tom French. Assistant Director, NHESP, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, MassWildlife MGL Chapter 131: Section 7 refers to the State Wildlife Sanctuary system of about 14 properties only. THE PLAYING FIELDS The athletic fields at Roberts Field include two baseball fields, a lacrosse/soccer/football field, and six station exercise circuit. The Roberts Field Master Plan includes recommendations to replace and upgrade the athletic fields, add an interior walking track, increase the number of exercise circuit stations, and build a new hardscape play area with half court basketball. The athletic fields are designed for youth sports (<14) and are used during the spring, summer and fall by Chelmsford Youth Baseball (Fitts and Lupien fields) and Chelmsford Youth Soccer. When not in use by youth sports leagues, the fields provide an open green space for pick-up games, picnics, kite flying or relaxing.
