They cover rooftop unit and zone controllers interacting via a wireless communication protocol. This includes floating and analog control of a single-zone, as well as multi-zone control. The training system allows students to acquire hands-on experience with industrial HVAC control equipment. Throughout the program, students connect and configure rooftop units and zone controllers. They also perform troubleshooting exercises on the training system. The course material covers important topics related to HVAC systems, such as heating, cooling, free cooling, and ventilation. The Multi-Zone Wireless Control Training Systems are part of the HVAC-R line of products. Three variants are available: Model is a complete training system that includes a workstation with enough space to accommodate two student groups. Model 3467-A is a complete training system that does not include the above-mentioned workstation. It is designed to allow a second team of students to perform exercises on the workstation provided with Model Model 3467-B is an add-on to the Electric Heating Training System, Model It provides to users that already have this system all the equipment necessary to complete the exercises in the Multi-Zone Wireless Control Training System, Model , without any unnecessary duplication of equipment. A complementary training system is also available as an add-on to any of the above Multi-Zone Wireless Control Training Systems: Model 3468 is an add-on that covers human-machine interfaces (HMI) with a supervisory controller connected to the training system. It also provides an introduction to lighting control and fire alarm protection in a building. Courseware Full-color courseware is included with the Multi-Zone Wireless Control Training System. The student manual provides all the theoretical matter required, lab exercise procedures to be performed with the training equipment, and review questions. 9 Equipment Description Workstation ( ) The workstation allows two student groups to work simultaneously. The structure is pre-assembled, made of steel, and intended for use on a table (not supplied, offered as option). Four pairs of mounting rails firmly hold the modules of the HVAC-R line of products in place. One holder on each side permits users to neatly arrange the test leads. A touch-screen computer mount (not supplied, offered as option) can be attached to either side. Available Space Intended Location Power Source ( ) Provides enough space for two student teams, one on each side. On a table able to support the weight of the equipment The Power Source provides power to the other modules of the training system through 4 mm terminals. The module can be powered via standard single-phase ac power outlets. The power source output voltage is equal to the voltage of the ac power network to which the power source is connected. A thermal-magnetic circuit breaker provides overcurrent and shortcircuit protection. Festo Didactic 9

It has taps on the primary side to accommodate different input voltages. Access to the primary windings of the transformer is achieved via 4 mm terminals, while access to the secondary windings is achieved via 2 mm terminals. Terminals on the primary winding as well as the secondary winding are fuse-protected. The module also includes four fault-insertion switches to teach the principles of troubleshooting, as well as two ground terminals. 11 Supervisory Controller ( ) The Supervisory Controller is primarily used to monitor and control the local network of controllers. A graphical interface, accessed through a remote computer, regroups the necessary information on the system (temperatures, CO2 levels, opening of dampers, etc.) and provides direct control over the inputs and the outputs. This interface (HMI) is particularly useful to troubleshoot the HVAC system. In addition to the HVAC equipment, the Supervisory Controller also manages lighting systems and other electrical equipment to ensure the comfort of the occupants. The Supervisory Controller module connects to other devices via several communication protocols, such as Ethernet (access to the interface), Zigbee (wireless network), and BACnet (FC bus communications). The module requires power from the Power Source, Model Power Requirements Communication Protocols Communication Protocols V ac 0.65 A Hz Ethernet Zigbee BACnet Festo Didactic 11
12 Rooftop Unit Controller ( ) as two ground terminals. The Rooftop Unit Controller is fitted with a typical rooftop unit controller in the module upper section. It communicates with the zone controllers via the Zigbee wireless protocol. A single multiple-strand cable connects all sensors from the Multi- Zone Wireless Control Layout, Model 46267, while 2 mm leads relay the output signals from the module to the layout. The Rooftop Unit Controller is powered using the 24 V ac terminals of the Control Transformer, Model The module also includes four faultinsertion switches to teach the principles of troubleshooting, as well Rooftop Unit Controller Type Z-Air ZR3520w Terminals RC Power supply for cooling and fan RH Power supply for heating G Blower output Y1 and Y2 Cooling stage 1 and 2 outputs W1 and W2 Heating stage 1 and 2 outputs BPD Bypass damper 0-10 V dc analog output EC Economizer 0-10 V dc analog output Sensors Input DC Discharge air temperature sensor input OS Outdoor air temperature sensor input Scom Return air, discharge air, and outdoor air sensors reference input RS Return air temperature sensor input AI Airflow 0-5 V dc analog input SP Static pressure 0-5 V dc analog input Fault-Insertion Switches x 149 x 90 mm (11.5 x 5.87 x 0.35 in) 12 Festo Didactic
13 Zone Controller (Floating) ( ) as two ground terminals. The Zone Floating Controller is fitted with a typical floating controller in the module upper section. Communication with the rooftop unit controller is achieved via the Zigbee wireless protocol. The controller uses floating control to manage the opening/closing of the zone damper and local heating in the zone. Buttons and switches are available on the module faceplate to set the different zone parameters. The Zone Floating Controller is powered using the 24 V ac terminals of the Control Transformer. The module also includes four faultinsertion switches to teach the principles of troubleshooting, as well Zone Floating Controller Type Z-Air ZR3150W Switches and Control Knobs Switches and Control Knobs Temperature sensor internal/remote switch Occupancy sensor open/losed switch Temperature control knob CO2 level control knob Terminals BO5 Reheat 24 V output, triac-isolated BO3 and BO4 Reheat 24 V ac floating outputs BO1 and BO2 Damper 24 V ac floating outputs Fault-Insertion Switches x 149 x 90 mm (11.5 x 5.87 x 0.35 in) Festo Didactic 13
14 Zone Controller (Analog) ( ) The Zone Analog Controller module has a typical analog controller with motion sensor installed in the top section. It communicates with the rooftop unit controller with the Zigbee wireless protocol. It uses analog control to manage the opening/closing of the zone damper and local heating in the zone. Buttons and switches serve to set the characteristics of the zone. The Zone Analog Controller module must be powered using the 24 V ac terminals of the Control Transformer module. It is equipped with four fault switches and two ground terminals. It represents the building infrastructure (ducts, sensors, dampers, heaters, etc.) and allows the setting of environmental variables such as outside temperature. The first third of the module represents the rooftop unit and the various temperature and pressure sensors. The buttons and connectors have been positioned so that they are close to their schematic 14 Festo Didactic

Each section represents the infrastructure of a zone including the zone damper, duct electric reheater, duct hot water coil, baseboard heater, sensors, etc. Adjusting the different switches and knobs allows students to simulate the output signals sent by the different sensors normally available in a building HVAC system. LEDs and bar meters indicate the status of the different elements, while 2 mm leads relay the output signals from the simulated sensors to the controllers. The power source provides line power to the module. The state of the different I/Os transits via the BACnet communication protocol to and from the supervisory controller. LEDs corresponding to each input and output are turned on or off on the circuit board to reflect the state of the inputs and outputs. Two LEDs, Light 1 and Light 2, represent large fluorescent lights installed in a zone. The Network Relay is powered using the 24 V ac terminals of the Control Transformer, Model The module also includes six fault- Festo Didactic 15
