1 WEST BLOOMFIELD FIRE & EMS SERVICES 5425 West Maple Rd West Bloomfield MI Chief s Notes Fire Department Quarterly Report January 1, 2018 March 31, 2018 Fire Station 3 is closed; plans are moving forward with demolition. New Fire engine delivery expected late in Quality Assurance Assessment Program (QAAP) to be implemented 3 rd quarter of Personnel 2 firefighter vacancies. 2 firefighters currently on probation. Planning to post of hiring firefighter/paramedics in 2 nd quarter of Training Training focused on leadership and practical evolutions, as well as some EMS protocol updates to ensure our crews are ready and have the latest information. Leadership: Blue Card Communications training focuses on standardized fire ground communication and incorporates the ICS system for type 4/5 incidents. We held two separate three day certification courses and one internal simulator training. We also held an all officer meeting for professional development focusing on how to Teach/Coach/Mentor our staff. Practical evolutions: Suppression/Rescue operations are always a priority and we conducted practical evolutions for: o Engine pump operations o Enforcer 3 operations and maintenance o Ice rescue o Screamer suit rescue and patient packaging o HazMat updates Protocol rollout: o New medication update o Review multiple changes to the protocols o Difficult airway management Emergency Medical Service Rescue X has been sent to a new vendor for completion; return expected in June. Ongoing analysis of senior living/care facilities and calls for service. Bariatric stretcher added to department resources. Business Emergency Fax
2 Fire Marshal 2018 First Quarter Activity Working with Oakland County GIS on the creation and implementation of new mapping system. Planning is ongoing for this year s public education programs (schools, tours, fire extinguishers). Working with the West Bloomfield Police & Oakland County Prosecutors on 1 active arson prosecutions from Working with Keego Harbor Planning and Planning Commission on pending projects. Still working with Magnolia by the Lakes to correct fire suppression issues on the 5th floor following freezing issues. Planning is underway for the St. Mary s Fair. Working closely with Sylvan Lake on enforcement issues. Ongoing Projects: Cauley Ferrari Provisional Living Town Court of West Bloomfield Orchard Lake Animal Hospital Shell Station All Seasons 2
