1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION This product is the photo/thermal/ir variant of 2 Series Advanced, the redesigned 2 Series all SMD adopting the new chamber and a new style of covers. It works with the 2 Series extended protocol known as 2 Series Advanced. It is mechanically and electrically compatible with the existing 5 Series intelligent system protocol, and works correctly when installed in a 2/5 Series system. The same product can be factory programmed to work in an Enhanced protocol system as well. Please refer to the appropriate S-42-xx for details regarding 5 Series and Enhanced protocol and for the different customizations. The PTIR is a multi-criteria sensor incorporating 3 separate sensing elements. An IR photo diode for measuring ambient IR light levels (welding probability as well as signatures from flame), a photo electric sensing chamber for measuring smoke products of combustion and a thermistor to monitor for heat. While maintaining backward compatibility, the Advanced protocol provides expanded capabilities, including bi-directional digital communication, the possibility to address up to 159 sensors, interrupt feature, group polling format for fast response to alarm conditions and improved power delivery. The tens digits go from to 15 and the units from to 9. The decimal address corresponding to each code switch knob address configuration can be calculated by multiplying the tens by ten and adding the units to the result. The remote output and internal LED can be controlled separately either by 5 Series or Enhanced and Advanced protocol commands. The devices has two three colors (red/green/yellow) LEDs for a 18 visibility. The color of the LED can be selected by the panel using the Advanced protocol features. Four different patterns are available with Advanced protocol: Steady ON Steady OFF Blink on communication Periodical pulse 1 of 19 LIFE SAFETY
2 As an option there is the possibility to have isolator circuits on board. The isolator circuit operates automatically to isolate the device, but there is the possibility to open the isolators also using an Advanced protocol command: this feature can be use to automatically map the loop. The Advanced protocol defines two modes of communication, designated Direct Poll and Group Poll: these two modes communicate either with one device at a time or simultaneously with a group of devices. This protocol contains a rapid alarm or fault detection feature which enables any device to signal the control panel when the device detects an alarm or fault condition. The alarm/fault condition represents a condition in the device which has been defined to require attention from the panel. This signal can e generated by any device where an alarm or fault condition occurs. This feature is factory set according to customer requirements, but it can be modified by special commands. Some parameters stored in EEPROM can be read or written to by means of Advanced protocol commands: refer to Parameter Table for a description of the read and/or write parameters. Four bytes in the EEPROM are used as a serial number, which can be read at panel start-up to detect double addresses. Magnet test generates an alarm (level 5 or level 6) unless the device determines it is incapable of alarming (photo, thermistor, IR fault). The device will then enter an algorithm bypass mode for the next 1 minutes: all delays/filters on the optical processing are temporarily removed. At this time the processing of the signal is limited so that canned smoke can easily and quickly cause an alarm signal, enabling easier verification of the multicriteria sensor s operation. After 1 minutes the device returns to its normal operation. The sensor provides an ambient IR level proportional output on sub-address 5 (see Fig.5). The sensor has wide light dynamic capability thanks to an Automatic Gain Control circuit which is suitable for most environment/light levels. Direct sun light (such as mirror reflection) or strong IR light sources directed towards the detectors might saturate the IR sensor. There is a value in sub-address to indicate a light saturation condition. A fault will also be indicated after the predetermined time indicated in the specification. 2 of 19 LIFE SAFETY
3 SENSITIVITY AND NUISANCE IMMUNITY The product provides 6 levels of sensitivity, which are categorized as below: Level 1 1%/ft of smoke. No delays from processed photo output. Level 2 2%/ft of smoke. No delays from processed photo output. Level 3 3%/ft of smoke. Time elapsed from smoke detection is within 45. Level 4 3%/ft of smoke. Time elapsed from smoke detection is between 45 and 9. Level 5 3%/ft of smoke. Time elapsed from smoke detection is greater than 9. Level 6 Heat only alarm. If the heat level on thermistor exceeds 6 C or rate of rise limits. Note: the delay counter starts when the smoke level exceeds approximately.75%/ft. The panel threshold should be chosen according to the specific environment: ULTRA-CLEAN environments can use Level 1 ALERT CLEAN environments can use Levels 2-3 ALARM MODERATE environments can use Level 4 ALARM HARSH environments can use Level 5-6 ALARM 3 of 19 LIFE SAFETY

Input voltage 29V Maximum instantaneous switch current 1 A Input voltage 28V *When used with B51AP.9 A Input voltage 29V Because a partial short circuit resistance is not always enough to pull the line below 5V (minimum switching threshold) an appropriate panel monitor function is required. The panel can recognise a partial short circuit by the following methods: Monitoring the line voltage at the end of the loop Monitoring if a device goes missing Looking for extra current during the 5V address sequence If a partial short circuit condition is determined to be present the panel should produce a reset pulse to open the isolators (> 4ms) so that the switch off resistance is put between the line positive input and output. With this procedure a partial short circuit is properly is managed. The FACP must restore the devices to the correct condition that was present before the short circuit was determined. The MOSFET used for short circuit isolation on this product can be controlled (command 11 bit 6,5=1) via a pin from the microcontroller to the gate of the MOSFET. Automatic control of the isolator occurs by the voltage monitoring circuit in the product, which also controls the gate of the MOSFET. The status of the isolator is provided by reading the control point at the gate of the MOSFET and does not always represent the precise electronic status of the isolator. When the Read Input Value command is used to read the isolator status, please pay attention to the notes below: 9 of 19 LIFE SAFETY
10 When the isolators are controlled by the device at start-up or after a command 11 with bit 6,5=11 Bit 7 = means isolators are open or are opening with the specified time delay (t x ) after the detection of a short circuit or during loop start-up Bit 7 = 1 means isolators are closed or are closing with the specified time delay (t y ) after the detection of the end of a short circuit or during loop start-up or after the release of the isolator open control by the panel (command to return to automatic control given by the panel and no short circuit) When the isolators are controlled by the panel after a command 11 with bit 6,5=1 Bit 7 = until control is given again to the device by the command 11 with bit 6,5=11 MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS SPECIFICATION TYP MIN MAX UNITS COMMENTS Wire Gauge for Screw Terminals Refer to intelligent base product spec.
