1 PALM BEACH GARDENS FIRE RESCUE 2017 First Quarter Report Deputy Chiefs James Ippolito and Shon Broedell receive the accreditation plaque at the 2017 Center for Public Safety Excellence Conference in Anaheim, California.

2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2017 During the first quarter of 2017, Fire Rescue responded to 3,081 emergency calls, 83% of which were medical calls. In March, we received our third re-accreditation from the Center of Public Service Excellence at the 2017 Excellence Conference in Anaheim, California. We are extremely proud of this accomplishment, as we remain the only Internationally Accredited Fire Rescue Agency in Palm Beach County and one of 243 agencies worldwide. FIRST QUARTER Total calls for service: 3,081 Annual Inspections: 816 Plan Review: 309 New Construction: 374 Fire Investigations: 7 Total Dollar loss: $23,262 Potential Loss: $23,780,859 Public Education Events: 12 Attendees: 223 Community CPR Classes: 4 Attendees: 115 During the first quarter, Fire Rescue hired five new firefighter/paramedics and one fire inspector. Additionally, there were 13 promotions (ten rescue lieutenants, two deputy chiefs and one division chief of EMS). Fire Rescue s Rapid Intervention Team (a team of two or more firefighters dedicated solely to the search and rescue of firefighters in distress) competed at Fire Rescue East in Daytona Beach. Fire Rescue participated in the countywide CPR day on February 11. On this day, members of the public came by Fire Headquarters and learned hands only CPR. Medical magnet students from all over the County provided the instruction. The Department received 250 smoke detectors donated by United Technologies Corporation. These smoke detectors will be available to residents upon request. Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue became the first agency in Palm Beach County, and the second fire rescue agency in the Country, to purchase virtual reality for EMS training. Paramedics will be able to interact with patient avatar to conduct a patient history and physical exam, diagnosis, and provide appropriate treatment. Once again, Fire Rescue had a busy year at the Honda Classic. There were 161 patient contacts which resulted in 21 transports to the hospital. The following information highlights each of the divisions within the Department. Included is statistical data relevant to each of the divisions and any other pertinent information or items of interest. 2

Potential Dollar Loss is the actual dollar value of the structure as per the Property Appraiser s Office. It indicates what the dollar loss would be if the structure were completely destroyed by fire. This dollar amount includes the contents of the structure, which is generally considered to be 30% of the structure s value. There are several factors that can limit the total dollar loss amount of a structure. These include: compliance with fire codes, early detection (fire alarms), fire suppression equipment, e.g. fire sprinklers and commercial cooking fire suppression systems. Additionally, quick fire attacks made by Fire Rescue crews also play an important role in limiting the amount of damage caused by fire and smoke. April 18, 2017 Occupants escape a residential structure fire without injury as Palm Beach Gardens firefighters make entry. 7
