4 Automotive Applications Adaptive Cruise Control. A LIDAR system composed of one or more high-performance infrared lasers scan the surroundings for other vehicles for up to 754 feet. OSRAM s Nanostack technology is responsible for the extremely powerful laser needed for this application. Airbag control systems. Infrared emitters illuminate the driving cockpit while special CMOS cameras create a 3D image of the passenger's position, helping to optimize release of the airbags in the event of a crash. Infrared night vision systems. A powerful infrared light source combined with a CMOS or CCD camera recognizes obstacles long before the driver does. Optical sensors help us see, recognize and react.
