Secure and support cables at intervals not exceeding 30 inches and not more than 6 inches from cabinets, boxes, fittings, outlets, racks, frames, and terminals. :i. Maintain minimum cable bending radius during installation and termination of cables. 6. Do not install bruised, kinked, scored, deformed, or abraded cable. Do not splice cable between termination, tap, or junction points. Remove and discard cable if damaged during installation and replace it with new cable. 7. Cold-Weather Installation: Bring cable to room temperature before dereeling. Heat lamps shall not be used for heating. 8. Pulling Cable: Comply with BICSI ITSIM, Ch. 4, "Pulling Cable." Monitor cable pull tensions. Do not exceed manufacturer's rated cable-pulling tension. '). Riser Cable: Riser cable support intervals shall be in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Install cabling in J -hooks supported from the building structure. 2. Suspend copper cable not in a wireway or pathway a minimum of 8 inches above ceilings by cable supports not more than 60 inches apart. Cable supports shall be fastened to ~tmctural members or floor slabs in accordance with Section "Hangers and Supports for Electrical Systems." 3. Cable shall not be run in contact with pipes, ducts, or other potentially damaging items. Cables shall not be run through structural members or use structural members, pipes, ducts, or equipment as a support. G. InstglJation of Cable Routed Exposed under Raised Floors: '1 /,,, Install plenum-rated cable only... In:..l:all cabling after the flooring system has been installed in raised floor areas. Cable 72 inches long shall be neatly coiled not less than 12 inches in diameter below each feed point. H. Separation from EMI Sources: 1. Cutt1ply with BICSI TDMM and TIA-569-C recommendations for separating unshielded copper voice and data communication cable from potential EMI sources, including electrical power lines and equipment. 2. Separation between open communication cables or cables in nonmetallic pathways and unshielded power conductors and electrical equipment shall be as follows: '1. Electrical Equipment Rating Less Than 2 kv A: A minimum of 5 inches. Electrical Equipment Rating between 2 and 5 kva: A minimum of 12 inches. 5 '' ~:eparation between Cables and Fluorescent Fixtures: A minimum of 5 inches. 3.4 FIRE ALARM WIRING INSTALLATION Comply with NECA 1 and NFPA 72. B. Wiririg Method: 1. Cables. and pathways used for fire alarm circuits, and equipment control wiring associated with the fire alarm system, may not contain any other wire or cable. 2. Fire-Rated Cables: Use of two-hour, fire-rated fire alarm cables, NFPA 70, Types MI and CI, is permitted. :J. Signaling Line Circuits: Power-limited fire alarm cables may be installed in the same cable or pathway as signaling line circuits. C. 1 ring within Enclosures: Separate power-limited and non-power-limited conductors as ~'...:omm::~tdell by manufacturer. Install conductors parallel with or at right angles to sides and l11ck of the enclosure. Bundle, lace, and train conductors to terminal points with no excess. <.. mnect conductors that are terminated, spliced, or interrupted in any enclosure associated with t1.. : fire alarm system to terminal blocks. Mark each terminal according to the system's wiring diagrams. Make all connections with approved crimp-on terminal spade lugs, pressure-type terminal blocks, or plug connectors. D. Cable Taps: Use numbered terminal strips in junction, pull, and outlet boxes, cabinets, or equipment enclosures where circuit connections are made. E. Color Coding: Color code fire alarm conductors differently from the normal building power wlrlng. Use one color code for alarm circuit wiring and another for supervisory circuits. Color corle 8udible alarm-indicating circuits differently from alarm-initiating circuits. Use different, olors ;'or visible alarm-indicating devices. Visually inspect UTP and optical-fiber cable jacket materials for NRTL certification markings. Inspect cabling terminations to confirm color coding for pin assignments, and inspect cabling connections to confirm compliance with TIA-568-C.l. 2. Visually inspect cable placement, cable termination, grounding and bonding, equipment and patch cords, and labeling of all components. B. DocumeHl qata for each measurement. Print data for submittals in a summary report that is formatted using Table 10.1 in BICSI TDMM as a guide, or transfer the data from the instrument to the computer, save as text files, print, and submit. Bond shields and drain conductors to ground at only one point in each circuit. B. Signal Ground: 1. For each system, establish the signal ground and label that location as such. 2. Bond the signal ground to the alternating-current (ac) power system service by connecting to one of the following listed locations, using insulated No. 6 A WG, stranded, Type THHN wire: 1. Grounding bar in an electrical power panelboard if located in the same room or space as the signal ground. b. Telecommunications grounding busbar. Power connection shall comply with NFPA 70; the equipment grounding conductor in the power cord of cord- and plug-connected equipment shall be considered as a supplement to bonding requirements in this Section. 11 SECTION DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE-ALARM SYSTEM PART 1- GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY Section Includes: 1. Fire-alarm control unit. 2. Manual fire-alarm boxes. 3. System smoke detectors. 4. Heat detectors. 5. Notification appliances. 6. Remote annunciator. 7. Addressable interface device. 8. Digital alarm communicator transmitter. B. Related Requirements: l. Section "Conductors and Cables for Electronic Safety and Security" for cables and conductors for fire-alarm systems. 1.2 ACTION SUBMITTALS Product Data: For each type of product, including furnished options and accessories. B. Shop Drawings: For fire-alarm system. 1. Comply with recommendations and requirements in the "Documentation" section of the "Fundamentals" chapter in NFPA Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work. 3. Include details of equipment assemblies. Indicate dimensions, weights, loads, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and locations. Indicate conductor sizes, indicate termination locations and requirements, and distinguish between factory and field wiring. 4. Detail assembly and suppot1requirements. 5. Include voltage drop calculations for notification-appliance circuits. 6. Include battery-size calculations. 7. Include input/output matrix. 8. Include statement from manufacturer that all equipment and components have been tested as a system and meet all requirements in this Specification and in NFP A Include performance parameters and installation details for each detector. 10. Verify that each duct detector is listed for complete range of air velocity, temperature, and humidity possible when air-handling system is operating. 11. Include plans, sections, and elevations of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning ducts, drawn to scale; coordinate location of duct smoke detectors and access to them. 12 a. Show critical dimensions that relate to placement and support of sampling tubes, detector housing, and remote status and alarm indicators. b. Show field wiring required for HV AC unit shutdown on alarm. c. Locate detectors according to manufacturer's written recommendations. C. General Submittal Requirements: 1. Submittals shall be approved by authorities having jurisdiction prior to submitting them to Architect. 2. Shop Drawings shall be prepared by persons with the following qualifications: a. Trained and certified by manufacturer in fire-alarm system design. b. NICET -cettified, fire-alarm technician; Level IV minimum. c. Licensed or cettified by authorities having jurisdiction. Delegated-Design Submittal: For notification appliances and smoke and heat detectors, in addition to submittals listed above, indicate compliance with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation. 1. Drawings showing the location of each notification appliance and smoke and heat detector, ratings of each, and installation details as needed to comply with listing conditions ofthe device. 2. Design Calculations: Calculate requirements for selecting the spacing and sensitivity of detection, complying with NFPA 72. Calculate spacing and intensities for strobe signals and sound-pressure levels for audible appliances. 3. Indicate audible appliances required to produce square wave signal per NFPA INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS Qualification Data: For Installer. B. Field quality-control reports. C. Sample warranty. 1.4 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS Operation and Maintenance Data: For fire-alarm systems and components to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals. 1. In addition to items specified in Section "Operation and Maintenance Data," include the following: a. Comply with the "Records" section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" chapter in NFP A 72. b. Provide "Fire Alarm and Emergency Communications System Record of Completion Documents" according to the "Completion Documents" Article in the "Documentation" section of the "Fundamentals" chapter in NFPA 72. 13 c. Complete wmng diagrams showing connections between all devices and equipment. d. Riser diagram. e. Record copy of site-specific software. f. Provide "Inspection and Testing Form" according to the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" chapter in NFPA 72, and include the following: 1) Equipment tested. 2) Frequency of testing of installed components. 3) Frequency of inspection of installed components. 4) Requirements and recommendations related to results of maintenance. 5) Manufacturer's user training manuals. g. Manufacturer's required maintenance related to system warranty requirements. h. Abbreviated operating instructions for mounting at fire-alarm control unit and each annunciator unit. B. Software and Firmware Operational Documentation: 1. Software operating and upgrade manuals. 2. Program Software Backup: On magnetic media or compact disk, complete with data files. 3. Device address list. 4. Printout of software application and graphic screens. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE Installer Qualifications: Personnel shall be trained and certified by manufacturer for installation of units required for this Project. B. Installer Qualifications: Installation shall be by personnel certified by NICET as fire-alarm Level II technician. C. NFPA Ce1iification: Obtain certification according to NFPA 72 by an NRTL (nationally recognized testing laboratory). D. NFPA Ce1iification: Obtain certification according to NFPA 72 by a UL-listed alarm company. 1.6 WARRANTY Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace fire-alarm system equipment and components that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Extent: All equipment and components not covered in the Maintenance Service Agreement. 2. Warranty Period: Five years from date of Substantial Completion. 14 PART 2- PRODUCTS 2.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION B. C. D. E. F. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following: 1. Gamewell - FCI by Honeywell. Source Limitations for Fire-Alarm System and Components: Components shall be compatible with, and interchangeable with components in owner's other buildings. Provide system manufacturer's certification that all components provided have been tested as, and will operate as, a system. Noncoded, UL-certified addressable system, with multiplexed signal transmission and horn/strobe evacuation. Automatic sensitivity control of certain ~moke detectors. All components provided shall be listed for use with the selected system. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application. 2.2 SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION Fire-alarm signal initiation shall be by one or more of the following devices and systems: 1. Manual stations. 2. Heat detectors. 3. Smoke detectors. 4. Duct smoke detectors. 5. Automatic sprinkler system water flow. B. Fire-alarm signal shall initiate the following actions: 1. Continuously operate alarm notification appliances. 2. Identify alarm and specific initiating device at fire-alarm control unit and remote annunciators. 3. Transmit an alarm signal to the remote alarm receiving station. 4. Unlock electric door locks in designated egress paths. 5. Release fire and smoke doors held open by magnetic door holders. 6. Switch heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment controls to fire-alarm mode. 7. Close smoke dampers in air ducts of designated air-conditioning duct systems. 8. Recall elevators to primary or alternate recall floors. 9. Activate elevator power shunt trip. 10. Activate emergency lighting control. 11. Record events in the system memory. C. 15 1. Valve supervisory switch. 2. Elevator shunt-trip supervision. 3. Loss of communication with any panel on the network. D. System trouble signal initiation shall be by one or more of the following devices and actions: 1. Open circuits, shorts, and grounds in designated circuits. 2. Opening, tampering with, or removing alarm-initiating and supervisory signal-initiating devices. 3. Loss of communication with any addressable sensor, input module, relay, control module, or remote annunciator. 4. Loss of primary power at fire-alarm control unit. 5. Provide system manufacturer's certification that all components provided have been tested as, and will operate as, a system. The voice evacuation panel shall be compatible with the F ACP to which it is attached. The system shall contain a voice evacuation system to supervise and operate UL listed voice evacuation speakers. The system shall have a built in UL listed power supply. The system shall be capable of supporting an optional UL listed zone splitter. In addition, the system will issue pre-recorded voice commands locally for purpose of evacuation. The system must support a minimum of two pre-recorded messages and have the capability of adding application specific messages. The voice evacuation system shall have the ability to provide a supervised microphone for the purpose of audible local instructions that will override the pre-recorded messages. The system shall contain a dead front panel inside the enclosure to protect the circuitry from exposure by the operator and to protect the operator from hazardous voltages. 2.3 B. C. D. E. F. G. VOICE EVACUATION SYSTEMS HARDWARE Provide a complete and electrically supervised voice evacuation system. The voice evacuation system shall have a 50 watt supervised amplifier with a built in Digital Message Repeater and a supervised microphone. The voice evacuation system shall have two alarm inputs, one triggered by reverse polarity and one by supervised dry contact trigger. The voice evacuation system shall have a speaker output line voltage of 25 VRMS with provisions for a 70.7 VRMS option. This speaker output must also be field selectable for class A or class B operation. The alarm inputs shall be programmable to provide one of two prerecorded audio messages. The voice evacuation system shall provide for field programming of custom messages via the built in microphone and/or line level input of an audio message and/or the downloading of message files from a PC.
