3 Enhanced energy efficiency in retirement and nursing homes with Synco and GAMMA building systems Requirements Single source Arten der Integration Purpose of the document Structure of the document Synco with special group addresses Retirement and nursing homes require special technical solutions. What is needed are low construction costs, a high level of flexibility to be able to easily rearrange spaces, economical operation, safety and comfort. The buildings must ensure optimum working and living conditions, low energy consumption, safe operation, protection from damage, and security in emergency situations. Building systems based on conventional technology cannot satisfy most of these requirements. As a supplier of products and systems for all sectors of building automation and control, Siemens offers integrated, energy-efficient and tested solutions from the production of heat and cooling energy to individual room control and from energy distribution to the power outlet in the hotel room, thus meeting all requirements. There are different types of integrated applications: "Integrated room applications" comprise HVAC, lighting and shading control with the option of manual intervention from the room "Integrated room primary applications" comprise HVAC, lighting and shading control with the option of manual intervention from the room, but also including a connection to primary plant, which ensures optimum communication between the room and the heating/refrigeration plant guaranteeing maximum energy efficiency The present Application Manual was made for HVAC and electrical planners and system integrators and shows 12 variants of a typical living room application in a retirement and nursing home. The focus is placed on energy efficiency, comfort and safety. The 12 variants offer a room automation with different kinds of mounting: electrical panel mounting, ceiling or under floor mounting, flush mounting resp. with radio or wired communication. Each application variant is subdivided into the following sections: Room setup Function description of the devices Device list Due to the fact that applications and functions do not differ very much from each other, the functions and other common topics a placed in the first section of the document and are valid for all variants. Synco devices use standard group addresses to distribute system time and information about plant malfunctions. When an application program is downloaded to the Synco devices via ETS, the group addresses are deleted. For this reason, the special group addresses must be downloaded via ETS. Otherwise, the Synco devices will not be able to communicate. The group addresses can be downloaded from the Internet at Engineering notes This document describes examples of room applications and makes proposals for their implementation. For configuration and parameterization of the individual devices, please refer to the respective application and function sheets which can be downloaded from the Internet at or resp. via the Siemens Download Center (App available). 1

4 Sales arguments Sales arguments Integrated room-primary application: Siemens offers an integrated application solution for small and mediumsize retirement and nursing homes which also includes the primary HVAC control part a fully integrated and tested solution with products from a single source. Energy savings through individual room temperature control: Due to individual room control, up to 30% heating and/or cooling energy can be saved. Energy savings through time programs: Time programs for each room automatically reduce the room temperature during the night, on weekends and during holiday periods. Energy savings thanks to window contact: Room heating is automatically stopped if the window is left open. So, the actuator will not open to warm up outside air. Energy savings through presence survey: A presence detector ensures that the lights are automatically switched off if nobody is in the room. Turning off the lights will never be forgotten when people are leaving. Thanks to the presence detector, up to 20% lighting energy can be saved. In addition, when no presence is detected, the room temperature will automatically be lowered by 1 to 2 K. Each degree of temperature reduction can save up to 6% heating energy. Energy savings through constant light control: Constant light control helps ensure that only as much artificial light as necessary is used. Together with the natural light, the users will get optimum lighting conditions and another 10 to 20% of lighting energy can be saved. Energy savings through weather monitoring: A weather station protects the blinds from storm damage and ensures that the blinds are down to protect the room from excessive solar irradiance in the summer. In cold winter nights, the blinds are automatically lowered to improve the building s thermal insulation. Energy savings through blind control: In dependence of the sun position the blind slats are tracked that they are constantly at right angles to the sun. This saves energy and optimizes the utilization of daylight. Energy savings through automatic data exchange: Synco living allows the straightforward integration of Synco 700 controllers via KNX bus and therefore automatic data exchange between room and HVAC primary plant. With automatic data exchange, the HVAC primary controllers provide only as much heat (or cooling energy) as demanded by the room controllers. This means that valuable energy can be saved. Central remote monitoring and control: Occupancy, lighting, the blinds and temperatures of each room can be monitored and adjusted on a touch panel or Web browser from a central location or when on the move. An energy efficiency indicator informs the operator when settings are outside predefined limits. So, wrong or temporarily changed settings will never be forgotten and the building is kept under control at all times. Reduced installation effort: Wireless KNX RF communication between the Synco living devices including KNX TP1 bus reduces the installation effort and ensures a high level of flexibility. This technology is ideal for renovation projects or building types where rooms need to be easily reallocated. 2

5 Overview Overview All applications shown on the following pages refer to living rooms which can be met in retirement and nursing homes. The applications focus on maximum comfort, safety and energy efficiency. The operating and monitoring devices are selected to simplify reading of the displayed information and operating the functions via large push buttons. The presence detector in the bath room switches the lighting automatically. The other presence detector in the living room measures the brightness in the room and turns off the lighting when enough daylight is available. It also can be configured as a constant light controller. Both detectors improve the safety as well by monitoring the presence of people in the room. When the room is not occupied lighting and electrical power are switched off automatically. The temperature in the room is being reduced to the precomfort level as well. The window contacts make sure the heating and cooling will not be lost through open windows and doors. Additionally, they can release an alarme when they will be open too long. Anywhere in the room SOS switches are installed to call for help. The alarms and all other sensor data can be centrally received, remotely monitored and recorded. Two signal lights in front of the door indicate whether help is required or nursing personal is in the room. 6 Room usage scenarios / Control of HVAC, lighting and blinds Room usage scenarios For living rooms in retirement and nursing homes following usage scenarios are supposed to be probable: HVAC Lighting Shading This could be a possible HVAC scenario: In the cold season the room temperature is increased at 6.00 controlled by a time schedule to the Precomfort temperature setpoint (20 C) and reduced again at to the Economy temperature level (18 C). Also, when people enter the room, the temperature is increased to the Comfort level (21 C) and reduced again when people leave. In the warm season the room temperature will be hold on the Comfort temperature setpoint (24 C). When the room is not occupied the temperature will be increased to the Precomfort level (28 C). This could be a possible light scenario: People manually switch on the lights via the push buttons. After a certain time after they have left the room, all lights are automatically turned off. The lighting groups are dimmed according to the natural light contribution to maintain a constant brightness level in the room when occupied. This could be a possible blind scenario: The blinds are controlled automatically. However, manual operation will be possible at any time. When the sun rises all blinds are raised automatically. When the sun shines on the facade, the blinds are driven to a certain position to protect people from excessive solar irradiance by maintaining comfortable lighting conditions in the room. After sunset, the blinds are automatically lowered. The chiller can only be switched on when there is flow of water through the evaporator and the condenser The temperature of each room is acquired and individually controlled. The heating plant is controlled in dependence on the outside temperature and on the heating request by the rooms. The cooling plant is controlled in dependence on a cooling demand in the rooms. Non-occupancy periods can be programmed in a time scheduler for each room or acquired via presence detector. During these time periods, the room temperatures are automatically adjusted to save energy. Open windows are automatically detected and room temperatures lowered / raised to save heating / cooling energy. Control of lighting L00002 UP2 HQ L00003 UP2 HQ Presence detectors also help save energy by automatically turning off the lights when the room is not occupied. A brightness sensor integrated in the presence detector helps switch the lights according to the brightness level so that the whole room is optimally illuminated using as little artificial light as necessary.

8 Documentation Control of blinds B00003 AP2 HQ B00002 AP2 HQ A weather station outside of the building protects up to 8 facades against excessive solar irradiance in the summer. This function helps keep office rooms cool. The weather station also protects the blinds from damage caused by storms or other natural influences and controls it according to a time schedule and temperature to save heating energy during winter nights. Finally, sunlight tracking and shadow outline tracking provide the room users with as much natural light as possible to ensure optimum working conditions. 9 Documentation Functional description Description of the functions Individual room temperature control The room temperature controller controls the radiator valve resp. the chilled ceiling valve directly or via KNX bus and actuator. The control signal is not only sent to the actuator but also to the central control unit (RMB) as a heating or cooling demand signal. Weather-compensated heating/cooling control The weather station (AP 257/22) or the meteo sensor QAC910 provide the heating (RMH) or cooling controller with the outside temperature signal. Whose flow temperature setpoint is shifted depending on the outside temperature to adjust the amount of heat delivered. Demand-dependent heat / cooling generation The central control unit (RMB) collects all heating and cooling request signals from the rooms and calculates a total demand which is transmitted to the primary controllers. The primary controllers shift their heating or cooling curve in dependence on the heating/cooling demand. Time schedule for each room In the cold season a time schedule defines the time periods when the operating mode is set to Economy. During these periods of time, the operating mode is reduced to Economy with lower temperature setpoints. So, during the night valuable heating energy can be saved. After these time periods, the setpoints are set back to the Precomfort level. Presence-dependent room heating control During periods of time when people are detected in the room by the presence detector, the room temperature is increased resp. lowered to the Comfort level. Afterwards, it is again lowered resp. increased to the Precomfort level. Presence-dependent control of lighting The presence detector (UP 258D11) allows switching up to 4 lighting groups and detects the presence of people in a square area. The lighting can be switched on via push buttons. When everybody leaves the room, lighting automatically goes off after a predefined time. A master-slave configuration is possible to extend the detection area. Brightness control A 2-point brightness controller with an upper and a lower limit keeps the room light almost at a constant brightness level by adding artificial light to the natural light. Manual switching is possible via wall switch or room unit. In this case, the control of lighting is stopped and the brightness level in the room is maintained as long as presence is detected. Control of blinds The weather station (AP 257/22) with integrated GPS receiver offers efficient control to protect facades from the sun. Up to 8 facade areas can be defined, which are automatically controlled independent of each other. Sunlight tracking control and shadow outline tracking control are other functions which ensure maximum use of daylight and minimum glare in the office room. The sunlight tracking function continually adjusts the blind slats so that they are constantly at right angles to the sun. Shadow outline tracking controls the blinds position so that the shadow outline keeps a constant distance to the desk. This optimizes the utilization of daylight, thus reducing energy consumption for room lighting. In cold winter nights and when no occupancy is detected in the office room, the blinds are lowered to improve the building s thermal insulation. On winter days, blind control raises the blinds to let the sunshine in and to warm up the room. Blind protection The weather station acquires permanently the wind speed. When strong winds come up, the blinds are driven up to a secure position. Remote control and supervision All rooms can be monitored and controlled on a Web browser via Web server (OZW). The following parameters can be monitored: The current status of windows and doors The current room temperatures The current room temperature setpoints The current room operating modes The current status of lighting (on/off) The occupancy of the rooms The current status of the blinds (raised/lowered) The following parameters can be changed, if required: The room operating modes, individually or in groups The room temperature setpoints, individually or in groups The time schedule for each individual room or for room groups Parameters of the heating plant (operating modes, setpoints) The status of lighting, individually or in groups The position of the blinds, individually or in groups Energy efficiency indication The Web server OZW772 provides the energy efficiency indication function for the HVAC system which reminds the user of settings outside the limits from the point of view of energy efficiency. In case of a non-efficient status, the user will be notified by or smartphone app. The limits can be defined by the user.
