4 1 System Overview The Chiron IRIS Touch range of communicators offers a way of transmitting alarm signals to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) over an Ethernet (IP) path, GPRS path, and PSTN path or a Combination as opposed to using a traditional PSTN lines. There are two parts to the system: 1. A communication device that connects to the alarm panel. 2. A receiver located within the Alarm Receiving Centre. The IRIS Touch series of communicators can be connected to an alarm system in a number of ways. Dial Capture (RJ11 Connector) This simulates a PSTN receiver and acts like a phone line. This allows a Digital Communicator (internal or external) to be connected to the unit. The IRIS Touch will convert the signals from the communicator and transmit these to the Alarm Receiving Centre over the chosen paths. Pin Inputs (Screw Terminals) To transmit alarm signals from the panel outputs to the Alarm Receiving Centre. Used where a Digital communicator is not available. RS485 Interface (Screw Terminals, 600 range also a 4 pin Molnex Header) Connects directly to the Honeywell panels data line to simulate a comm s module. The IRIS Touch range are capable of signalling over 2 IP paths; Ethernet (usually the clients network) and GPRS (mobile Internet), and a standard analogue path PSTN (440R). The IRIS Touch is fitted with a touch screen which allows for easy of configurations by the installing engineer. The IRIS Touch has an inbuilt test feature that will test all communication paths to the receiving centre and automatically give indications of any errors, if any, and possible causes, along the way.
