4 Introduction Congratulations with your new HomeSecure BASIC alarm system. In this manual you will find information about the alarm system s functions as well as installation procedure and operation instructions. It is important that you read this manual completely before you start installing the alarm system to avoid wrong/erroneous installation. In order to make the alarm system function optimally, you are required to follow the installation procedure exactly as described in this manual. If you encounter any problems during the installation, we refer you to our FAQ in the appendix to this manual. In most cases, you will be able to find your answer here. 1.1 Functions Below is a list of the main functions of the HomeSecure BASIC V2 alarm system. This is not a comprehensive list, but an introduction to the most important functions. Please make yourself familiar with all the possibilities of the alarm system before installing so you have an idea of your desired set up. Receive SMS and call during alarm You can save up to 5 phone numbers that receive SMS when the alarm is triggered and 5 phone numbers that receive a call when the alarm is triggered. You can thus include up to 10 different contacts in total. Home Arm (night arm) Arm all door and window sensor during the night while motion detectors are disarmed. You can then move about freely in your house, while doors and windows are secure. Remote control and setup with FREE App for smart phone Download our App for smart phone and you will be able to remote control your alarm system from anywhere in the world. You can also setup the alarm system via the App. 99 Zones Connect op to 99 sensors to the alarm system. You can connect up to 96 wireless sensors and 3 wired sensors (more of connected in serial). Delay 0-99 seconds delay is set for each sensor individually. SMS for arm/disarm The first SMS phone number can be set to receive an SMS when the alarm system is armed/disarmed. You can thus be notified when your kids come home from school. Receive power failure SMS The alarm system has a built in backup battery (12 hours). If power in the building is cut off, the battery will take over and you will receive an SMS notifying you about the power outage. Built in tamper switch If the alarm is removed from the wall mount, it will automatically trigger alarm. 4

5 Get started 2.1 The Alarm Panel The alarm is the brain of the alarm system. All wireless and wired devices are connected to the alarm, which functions as a communication hub between all devices. When a sensor is triggered, it will send a signal to the alarm, which triggers alarm. The alarm is also home to the GSM module that makes it possible for the alarm til send SMS and call all stored numbers in case of alarm. Alarm Front: OUT1: Red when Output1 is on (while alarm is triggered). OUT2: Red when controllable Output2 is on. ZONE: Red light indicates that the alarm is in coding mode. Code sensors. RF: Red light indicates that the alarm is in coding mode. Remotes and keypads are coded. REC: Red light indicates that the built in microphone is recording sound. STATUS: Indicates alarm status: Orange blink: Searching GMS signal Orange constant: GSM error Green constant: Disarmed, normal condition Green blink each second: Arm delay Short green blink every other second: Armed Short green blink each second: Armed stay Red constant: Alarm triggered Red blink: Alarm delay Red fast blink: Remote controlling via GSM 5

6 MON/SPK: Red light indicates speaker on (if one is connected). POWER: Power status indicator: Off: Alarm off Red constant: Power supply normal Red blink: Backup power supply Microphone: Speak into this microphone when recording personal message Speakers: Indicator sounds when coding and programming. Alarm Back: ON/OFF switch: Turn the alarm on/off. Cable joints: Connect all wired devices here. See more in [4 Connect Wired Devices]. Rec. button: Presse this button to record personal alarm message. See more in [5.4 Record Personal Alarm Message]. Tamper swtich: Triggers alarm if anyone tries to remove the alarm from its mount. RF button: Press this button to code wireless devices. See more in [3.2 Code Wireless Devices]. Power plug: Connect power supply here. SIM card holder: Insert SIM card here. 6

7 2.2 Insert SIM card The alarm MUST have a working SIM card installed in order to send SMS and call. If no SIM card is inserted or if the SIM card is not functioning properly (negative balance, no service etc.), the alarm will not be able to communicate on the GSM network. Alarm will still be triggered, but no SMS will be sent and no calls will be made. About SIM Cards and the Alarm Panel The alarm only works with 2G SIM cards. Thus, the SIM card must communicate on the 2G network. Ask your provider if you are in doubt. It is important that pin code request as well as voice mail be disabled on the SIM card. First, insert the SIM card into a normal mobile phone and disable these services. Follow the instructions from your provider to do this. Insert SIM card: Push the lid to the side to unlock. Insert the SIM card in the lid, so the metal surface is facing down when closed. Close the SIM cardholder. Push the SIM cardholder to the side to lock. 2.3 Start up Alarm Panel When the SIM card is inserted correctly, you can turn on the alarm. Insert the power supply into the alarm on the back and switch the ON/OFF switch to ON. The alarm will beep twice, Power LED will turn red and Status LED will blink orange until it has established GSM connection. You can now start coding devices and set up the alarm. 2.4 Alarm Panel Settings All non-physical settings are made with SMS. You can either send an SMS from you mobile phone to the alarm with the SMS command, or you can download our free App for iphone and Android which 7

8 autogenerates the SMS commands just by clicking a few buttons. This makes it much easier than writing long SMS commands manually. There are guides for making all settings both with a manual SMS and in the App Settings with App for iphone and Android Download our App [HomeSecure 2014] from Apple s App Store or from Google Play and install it. Follow the guide below to setup the app so it can communicate with you alarm : Press the Plus sign to add a new device. Choose [HomeSecure BASIC V2]. Type in the alarm name, so you can recognize it later. Type in the phone number for the alarm (the number of the SIM card). Type in the alarm password (standard ). Choose if you want to activate lock screen for the app so other people using your phone cannot use the app. And then choose your password. Press [OK] to enter the main menu. Now, you are ready to make all settings described in this manual on the app. All app guides in this manual start from the main menu. You will receive a confirmation SMS from the alarm in the same way as if you had sent a manual SMS. The App sends an SMS to the alarm from your mobile phone each time to change a setting. You will receive a confirmation SMS from the alarm for each setting you make. Wait until you receive the confirmation before changing the next setting. 8

9 2.4.2 Settings with SMS It is important that you send the SMS content exatcly as it is descibed in the guides. Otherwise the alarm will not recognize the SMS content. All SMS codes start with the alarm password followed by #. The password is as standard, but you can change that. To send an SMS command, simply send a normal SMS to the number of the SIM card in the alarm, with the content that is described in the SMS guides. When the alarm has received and processed the SMS command, it will reply with a confirmation SMS to confirm that the setting has been changed successfully. See each guide for SMS command content. You will receive confirmation SMS whether you use the App or manual SMS. Wait until you have received the confirmation before continuing to the next setting. 9

10 Code Wireless Devices In order for the alarm to recognize your remote controls, sensors, keypads, etc., all these devices must be coded to the alarm. Each device sends a wireless signal with a unique code. In order for the alarm to recognize this code, it first has to be set to code mode and all devices are registered one by one. 3.1 The RF Button When you want to code wireless devices, you need to use the RF button on the back of the alarm. It is used like this: First press Second press Third press RF LED on, code remote controls and keypad(s). RF and ZONE LED on, code wireless sensors. Turn off registration of wireless signals. That means you must press the RF button once to code remote controls and keypads. When you are done coding those, press the RF button once more to start coding sensors and finish the process by pressing a third time to turn it off. If you need to code more sensors to the alarm at a later time, you will then have to press the RF button twice and once more to turn off when you are done. If you need to code new remote controls or keypads, you need to press the RF button once to code and once more to turn it off. 3.2 Code Remote Controls and Keypad Code all remote controls and keypads first (see keypad manual for instructions on how to code it). Explanation on next page. 10

11 Press the RF button on the back of the alarm to set the alarm to coding mode. The alarm will beep shortly. RF LED will now light red. You can now start coding your remote controls (and keypads). Press the panic button on the remote control (the one with a bell). The alarm beeps a single time to confirm that the remote has been coded successfully. If the remote is already registered on the alarm, it will beep four times fast. Code keypads by pressing the code button on the buttom of the keypad. Code all remote controls and keypads one by one. 3.3 Code Wireless Sensors Code all wireless sensors immediately after you finish coding the remote controls and keypads. Press the RF button a second time. The alarm will give a long beep. RF and ZONE LED both light red. You can now code wireless sensors. PIR Sensor: Set ON/OFF to ON (return to OFF until all sensors are coded). Door/window sensor: Press the round code button. Smoke sensor: Press the test button. Andre sensorer: Trigger the sensor. The alarm will beep a single time to confirm that the sensor has been coded. If the sensor has previously been coded to the alarm, it will beep four times fast. Code all sensors one by one. Note the order in which you code the sensors. The first one being number 1, the second number 2 etc. You will have to use these numbers for sensor settings later so you can distinguish the different sensors. Finish coding by pressin a third time on the RF button. The alarm will give a long beep and RF and ZONE LEDs will turn off. If you want to add sensors later, you need to press the RF button twice, so both RF and ZONE LEDs are on. 11

12 3.4 Zone Settings Zone refers to each single sensor coded to the alarm. Zone 01 is the first sensor coded to the alarm, Zone 02 is the next sensor coded etc. You need to set each zone to a predefined zone type and outer/inner zone immediately after coding. You can also name each sensor so you know exactly which sensor has been triggered in the event of alarm. The alarm SMS will then contain the name of the sensor. Set zone type after sensors are coded. See explanation of all zone types as well as outer/inner zone in the table below: Zone type Description Recommended sensors with this zone type 24-hour Zone Sensors of this type are active 24 hours per day. Thus, they are active whether that alarm is armed or not. Smoke and gas sensors Real-time Zone Delay zone Bypass Zone Normal zone. Sensor will trigger alarm when the alarm is armed or armed stay (depending on inner/outer zone setting below). Sensors of this type will trigger alarm with delay. You can set delay to 0-99 seconds (see more in [10.1 Delay Settings]). Sensor will not trigger alarm. Door window sensors and motion detectors without delay. Door window sensors on access points and motion detectors in their close proximity. Sensors that you do not wish to trigger alarm. Inner/Outer Description Outer Zone Inner Zone Sensors in the outer zone will be active when the alarm is set to Arm Stay. All door window sensors should be in the outer zone as well as any motion detectors you wish to be active during the night as well. Sensors in the inner zone will be deactivated during arm stay. All motion detectors in areas you use during the night/evening should be in the inner zone. NOTE! Read more about inner/outer zone in [7 Operating the Alarm System]. 12

13 3.4.2 Set Zones by App Press [Zone Settings] Press [Wireless Zoens] tab. Choose your zone type and inner/outer zone. Press [SET] to send SMS. Press [Add Zone] in the buttom to setup the next zone Set Zones by SMS You have to write an SMS from your mobile phone to the number of the SIM card in the alarm. Make the SMS as follows: Password # 38 # Zonenummer # Zonetype # Sikringstype # (Password can be changed. See [5.5 Change password]) Example: # 38 # First sensor that was coded is 01, second one is 02 etc. # 1-4 1: 24 hours zone 2: Real-time zone 3: Delay zone 4: Bypass zone # 0-1 1: Outer zone 0: Inner zone Confirmation from the alarm # 13

14 In the above example, zone 2 that is the second sensor coded to the alarm is set to trigger alarm without delay and to be deactivated during arm stay. 3.5 Name Zones It is an advantage to name each zone. In this way you will know which sensor triggers alarm and you will not have to remember the numbers of each sensor Name Zones by App Press [Zone Settings] Press [Wireless Zones] tab. Space). # Example: Confirmation from the alarm 3.6 Wireless Outdoor Siren Please refer to the seperate manual for the outdoor siren. 14

15 Connect Wired Devices You can connect a number of different wired devices to the alarm. The wired siren in the basic alarm kit should be connected as described in this section. There are cable joints for wired input (sensors) and output, which can either be controlled by App/SMS or set to be activated when the alarm is triggered. On the back of the alarm, there is a number og cable joints. All wired devices are connected here as described below: 4.1 Siren: The two wires from the siren are connected to the first two ports on the cable joints. The smooth wire is + (plus) and is connected to port 1, and the wire with a line along it is (minus) and goes in port Speaker: You can connect speakers to the alarm, so you can speak through them when you call the alarm (see more in 4.2 Alarming ). Connect the + (plus) wire to port number 3 and the (minus) wire to port number Output 1: This wired output turns on automatically when the alarm is armed and turns off when the alarm is disarmed. The output only turns on a control signal of 6V, it is necessary to connect the output to a relay box in order to control electrical appliances like outdoor lighting, etc. 4,4 Output 2: This wired output can be controlled by App and SMS. The output only turns on a control signal of 6V, it is necessary to connect the output to a relay box in order to control electrical appliances like outdoor lighting, etc. 4.5 Wired Sensors: Connect wired sensors to Z1/Z2/Z3 and GND. One wire in either Z1, Z2 or Z3 and one wire in GND. The three wired zones correspond to zones 97, 98 and 99, they should be set up in the same way as wireless zones under [3.4 Zone 15

16 Set Phone Numbers The alarm sends SMS and calls when alarm is triggered. You can save up to 5 phone numbers that receive SMS and 5 phone numbers that are called (same number can be set up for both). Read further about communication settings in [8 Communication All phone numbers must be input without country code. No matter if you set with App or SMS message. 5.1 SMS Phone Numbers Phone numbers that will receive an SMS when the alarm is triggered Save SMS Phone Numbers with App press [General Press [Set Phone Numbers]. Input phone number in the text field. Press [SET] to send SMS to the alarm. NOTE: Set only one phone number at a time. 16

20 5.4 Record Personal Alarm Message You can record a personal alarm message of up to 10 seconds which will be played back when the alarm calls your phone. You can use the message to make it clear to the listener that it is an alarm call and you can give instructions etc. Press the REC button on the back of the alarm. The RED LED will light up. You now have 10 seconds to record the message. The microphone is in the upper right corner on the front of the alarm. After 10 seconds, the alarm will replay your message and you can decide if it is satisfactory. If you want to record a new message, simply repeat the steps above. 20

21 Installing the Alarm System Now that all basic settings have been made, you are ready to install all the components of the alarm system. After the physical installation there are a number of advanced settings you can make. Be sure to refer to the Advanced Settings part of this manual. 6.1 Installation of Alarm Panel Before installing the alarm permanently, we recommend that you first check the GSM signal on the spot where you wish to install. In [8.5 Get GSM Signal] you can make the alarm send an SMS with the strength of the GSM signal. If the signal is not strong enough, please find a better placement for installing the alarm. Install the alarm like this: Install the wall mount with two screws. Mount the alarm on the wall mount with SIM card and power plug inserted as well as all wired devices connected. 21

22 6.2 Activate Tamper Switch After installing the alarm, you should activate the tamper switch on the back of the alarm. It will trigger alarm as soon as anyone tries to remove the alarm from the wall mount Activate Tamper Switch with App Press [General Press [Tamper Switch]. Press [Activate] to send SMS. 23 6.3 Install Sensors It is now time to install all the sensors around the house. Before installing then, it is important that you ensure that the distance between each sensor and the alarm does not exceed the reach of the wireless signal. In most normal houses the reach is meters, but it can be more or less depending on building materials and thickness of the walls between the alarm and sensor (see figure below). The reach is 80 meters in open air. Test each single sensor at the place where you wish to install it. Trigger the sensor while the alarm is armed. If the sensor does not trigger alarm, you have to find an alternative installation place, or buy a wireless signal repeater from a HomeSecure dealer Motion Detector: Overview: Wireless infrared motion detector. Triggers alarm once it detects motion in the area in front of it. 24 Installation The motion detector detects movement in an area extending 8 meters in front of it and 55 degrees to each side as shown below. Install the motion detector as shown below: Fix the wall mount on the wall with two screws. Press the ball joint into the wall mount and tighten the screw lid. Mount the motion detector on the ball joint pointing in the desired direction. To reduce the risk of faulty alarms, do not install the motion detector so it is exposed to direct sun light or near any heat sources and point it away from windows. We recommend that the motion detector is installled in the corner of a room pointing away from windows at a height of meters. 24

25 6.3.2 Door/window sensor: Overview: The door/window sensor is a magnetic contact, which consists of two parts as shown below. Reed Relay CR2032 3V Li Battery On/off button LED indicator Magnet Code button/panic button Installation Install the door/window sensor on the door or window frame and the magnet on the door/window or the other way around. It is important that the distance between the two parts do not exceed 10 mm. The magnet must be placed on the right side of the main part aligned with the bottom. See the picture below for further instructions Other Sensors: Please refer to the seperate manual for each sensor type. 6.4 Change Battery LED lights on the sensor will indicate when you need to change battery. When the LED is on constantly, it means that you need to change battery. Turn off the sensor while changing battery. Change the battery and turn the sensor back on. It is not necessary to code it to the alarm again. 25

26 Operating the Alarm System This section will describe how you operate the alarm system, how you arm/disarm as well as what happens when the alarm is triggered 7.1 Arm/Disarm the Alarm System The alarm system has three status modes that you can switch between with your remote control, keypad, App and SMS. Disarmed Armed Home Armed All sensors will trigger alarm in this status mode, unless they have the bypass zone type. The alarm system should be armed when you leave your home. In this status, only sensors with the 24-hour zone type will trigger alarm. No door/window and motion detectors will trigger alarm, but a smoke sensor will. Disarm the alarm system when you are home during the daytime. Only sensors in the outer zone will trigger alarm in this status mode. Typically, this will be all door/window sensors, while motion detectors in the inner zone will not trigger alarm. Home arm the alarm system when you are home at night Remote Control: Arm alarm system: Activates Armed status mode. Disarm alarm system: Activates Disarmed status mode. Home arm alarm system: All sensors in Inner zone are deactivated while sensors in outer zone are activated. Panic button: Triggers alarm regardless of status mode Keypad: Please refer to the seperate keypad manual for instructions on how to code and operate the keypad. 26

27 7.1.4 SMS: You can operate the alarm system by SMS in the same way as when you make settings with SMS. Please refer to below list of operational SMS. Send the SMS content to the phone number of the SIM card in the alarm. Please refer to the manual appendix for a complete list of SMS command codes. SMS content: Function: #1#1# Arm alarm system #1#0# Disarm alarm system #1#2# Home arm alarm system #30## Retrieve status SMS. 7.2 Alarming If a sensor triggers alarm, the alarm will start alarming. The siren will start sounding and the alarm system will send SMS to all the saved SMS phone numbers and will then call all call phone numbers in the order they are saved SMS Alarming: The alarm will send an SMS with information about which zone that has triggered alarm. If you have named all zones under Zone Settings, the name will appear in the SMS. You can also edit a common SMS content that will appear in all alarm SMS from the alarm, see more in [8.2 Common SMS Content]. The alarm SMS will be constructed as follows: Common SMS content + Zone number + Zone name Editable 1-99 Zone Editable 27

28 7.2.2 Alarm Call: When the alarm has finished sending SMS, it will call the first number on the list, then number 2 and so on. It will start over after calling the last one on the list (unless the alarm has been disarmed in the meantime) up to a total of three rounds of calling each number. The siren will sound for 3 minutes as standard, but it can be set in [9 Siren When you receive the alarm call, the personal message will be played three times in a row. You can at any time remote control the alarm system through the call. While you are connected to the alarm, input the codes listed below to remote control the alarm system: Input: Function: 1#1# Arm alarm system 1#2# Disarm alarm system 1#0# Home arm alarm system 4#1# Turn on remote listening (microphone) 4#0# Turn off remote listening (microphone) 93#1# Turn on speaker 93#0# Turn off speaker 94#1# Turn on Output 1 94#0# Turn off Output 1 NOTE: It is not necessary to input the alarm system password during an alarm call. If you turn on remote listening, the siren will turn off so you can hear what is going on. 28

29 Communication Settings You can make a number of settings for when and how the alarm should call and/or send SMS. 8.1 Alarm Calls: You can deactivate alarm calls, so the alarm will not call when alarming (activated as standard) Activate/Deactivate Alarm Calls with App Press [General Press [Communication Choose to activate or deactivate [Alarm Calls]. 32 8.3 SMS Confirmation from Alarm Panel: Each time a setting is made with SMS or App, the alarm will send a confirmation SMS (as described at each setting in the manual). If you want to save on the number of SMS the alarm sends out, these confirmations can be deactivated (activated as standard) Activate/Deactivate SMS Confirmation with APP Press [General Press [Communication Activate or deactivate [System SMS reply]. 34 8.4 SMS Message when Arming/Disarming Alarm System: You can set the alarm system to send an SMS to the first SMS Phone Number when the alarm system is armed and disarmed. 35 8.5 Retrieve GSM Signal: When sending this command with either App or SMS, the alarm system will reply with an SMS showing the current GSM signal strength. 43 Delay Settings 10.1 Set Delay Time As described in [3.4 Zone Settings], you can set indivual sensors to trigger alarm with a delay. You can set this delay to anywhere between 0 and 99 seconds. You can set arm delay and disarm delay separately, ie. the time from when you arm the alarm system to you leave your home and the time from when you enter your home to you disarm the alarm system. 49 Reset all Manually Sometimes it can be necessary to reset all manually. Follow the procedure below: Set the ON/OFF button to OFF. Press and hold REC and RF buttons. Hold them during the whole procedure. Set ON/OFF button to ON. Status LED will blink shortly and then all LEDs will light up. They must do this twice to indicate the alarm system has been reset. Now let go of the REC and RF buttons. 49

50 Maintenance After installing your alarm system it is necessary to perform running maintenance to ensure that it is functioning optimally Tests We recommend that you test the alarm system at least every three months. Follow the procedure below: Alarm test: Arm the alarm system and activate each of your sensors one by one. Keep the remote control ready so you can disarm the alarm quickly (you can also turn off the siren while testing). If one or more sensors do not trigger the alarm when activated, please ensure there is sufficient voltage on the batteries. If there is sufficient voltage on the battery, please try to code the sensor to the alarm once again. Communication test: When you perform the alarm test, make sure that the alarm system contacts all the saved phone numbers with SMS and calls in the way you have set it up. If one or more phone numbers do not receive calls/sms, make sure that the number is saved correctly on the alarm. If the alarm system does not send any SMS or makes any calls, please see below. SIM card test: If the alarm does not communicate over GSM network at all, please first check the Status LED on the alarm front. If it is constant orange, it means that the cannot establish connection to the GSM network. Remove the SIM card from the alarm (turn off the alarm first), and test that it can send and receive SMS and calls in a normal phone Batteriskift Monitor your sensors frequently. The LED lights on each sensor will indicate low battery. Change the battery/batteries as shown in the manual for the sensor. It is not necessary to re-code the sensor to the alarm after changing the battery. Simply remount the sensor and all will function as normal. 50
