Static guarding services accounted for the largest proportion of the UK manned security market during the review period. However, the market for mobile security services experienced a 55% growth between 2000 and 2004, albeit from a relatively low starting level, to reach 0.17 billion ( 0.25 billion). This reassures clients that if any problems do occur there is someone who can deal with them immediately, rather than waiting for mobile or police response, by which time the crime may have been committed and the perpetrator may have escaped. Furthermore, a physical presence on site can also act as a deterrent to crime and opportunistic thieves, therefore helping to minimise the need for police involvement or confrontation. Trade sources report that demand for mobile security services has grown at a much higher rate than static security services throughout the review period. This can be attributed to a variety of reasons including: an increase in use of alarm response and key holding services due to the introduction of the APCO policy, which means that police officers will not respond

The use of in-house security can lead to lower expenditure on security because they do not need to be licensed.
