5 Preface Preface This manual is intended for the technicians involved in the commissioning and service of the Enraf series 970, 971 and 973 SmartRadar option hardware alarm contacts. For the mechanical and electrical installation of the 970, 971 and 973 series SmartRadar, refer to the installation guide 97x SmartRadar and installation guide SmartRadar Antennas. Refer also to the list of related documents in the Appendix. A description preceding the technical procedures gives the technical information necessary to understand its functioning. It is recommended to read this chapter prior to performing any of the procedures. 7 Introduction 1 Introduction The Enraf 97x series SmartRadar is a radar based level gauge. It is designed to measure accurately and reliable the product level in large storage tanks. One of the optional functions in the SmartRadar is the hard alarm output contacts. The ICU board is then equipped with two alarm relays. The alarm relays can be used as level alarm output contact or as digital output. The 97x SmartRadars produced before April 2006 have only one alarm relay (RL1). The relays are of the SPDT type and are standard wired as normally closed (NC) (refer to figure 1.1) If the normally open (NO) contact is required, the wiring at the ICU board has to be changed from NC to NO. Figure 1.1 Relay contact Operation of the relays Relays as hard alarm output contact: Both relays can be linked to one of the four level alarms (HA, HH, LA, LL) which can be programmed in the 97x SmartRadar series. For instance, relay 1 (RL1, contacts at terminals 5 and 6) operates on the high high level alarm setting (item HH). The linking is realised by software (item settings). The action on alarm condition (energized or de-energized) can also be obtained via software (item setting). Relay as digital output: Another way of operating the relays is "remote controlled". 8 Commissioning 2 Commissioning For information how to program items, refer to the instruction manual 97x SmartRadar. For connection of the external wiring circuit, refer to the Installation guide 97x SmartRadar. 2.1 Changing contact wiring from NC to NO Refer to figure 2.1. If the alarm contact wiring has to be changed into normally open, then proceed as follows: 1 Switch off mains power from the SmartRadar; 2 Open electronic compartment cover; For relay 1 (RL1): 3 Locate connector CN 7 at the upper left side (connector with black wires); 4 Loosen the connector from CN 7 (NC contact), and plug it into CN 8 (NO contact); For relay 2 (RL2): 5 Locate connector CN 16 at the right hand side from connector CN7 (connector with black wires); 6 Loosen the connector from CN 16 (NC contact), and plug it into CN 17 (NO contact); 7 Close electronic compartment cover; 8 Apply mains power. 9 Commissioning 2.2 Control setting for relay output contact Item AX needs to be set (checked) for the proper operation of the alarm relay on the ICU board. Item AX is an indexed item consisting of two elements: element 1 for relay 1; element 2 for relay 2. Notes: The relay can be linked to one of the four level alarms, specified in position 11 and 12. Level alarms, triggered by LA and HA settings, will also be transmitted to the remote system. Item AX is an indexed item. Therefore, to program relay 1, give: AX.0.1="desired setting" and to program relay 2, give: AX.1.1="desired setting". 10 Operation 3 Operation The alarm relays can be remotely controlled by the host. Item RN controls the relay. Item Name Description RN Relay command 8 Characters: (C1, T1, T2, T3, C2, T4, T5, T6). C1, T1, T2, T3 for relay output 1; C2, T4, T5, T6 for relay output 2. With only one alarm contact (item PD < 0613): C2, T4, T5, T6 are dummy characters; keep them on: C1 (C2): Relay 1 (2) command: A Activate relay D De-activate relay K Alarm acknowledge - Don't change T1, T2, T3 (T4, T5, T6): Relay time data field: : Time setting in seconds for 'Activate' command only. If the time field is set to 000, the relay is continuously activated. For the other commands, dummy values must be specified (e.g. RN=K ). Note: The 'Acknowledge' command can only be given when the relay is programmed for level alarm operation (item AX.0.1, pos. 3 set on "-"). The other commands can only be given as the relay is set for remote control (item AX.0.1, pos. 3 set on "R"). The actual relay status can be checked by data item RX (relay status): Item Name Description RX Relay status 2 ASCII characters (B0, B1) status information from resp. Relay 1 and Relay 2. 11 Troubleshooting 4 Troubleshooting The 97x SmartRadar is a self diagnostic instrument. Detected errors can be requested by the host, or by the 847 Portable Enraf Terminal, when the IR option is present. Item EE (error APU (ICU) request; indexed item!) contains three codes for alarm relay malfunction.
