Introduction 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 DESCRIPTION This mid-sized matrix switcher provides 16 video inputs and 4 monitor outputs. It is expandable to 32 video inputs and 8 monitor outputs. It also provides 32 programmable alarm contact inputs, uses the standard Digiplex protocol, is controlled by twisted-pair cable from up to 64 keypads, and can be operated from a computer or other external communication device using its RS232 port. 1.2 PLACEMENT IN A DIGIPLEX SYSTEM To operate PTZ and other receivers using the unit s RS232 port, the unit must be placed in the RS422 control line after the controller keypads that will control it and before any PTZ or other receivers that it will operate. Figures 1, 2, and 3 provide typical system configurations. 4 or 8 monitor outputs 16 or 32 video inputs 32 alarm contacts To PTZ receivers Keypad RS422 control signal KTD-348 Figure 1. 7 Installation 2 INSTALLATION 2.1 PROGRAMMING THE DIP SWITCHES The video termination and programming DIP switches are located on the main circuit board. See Figure 4. There are four eight-position DIP switches for video termination. Each video termination switch is labeled with an input number. The programming DIP switch sets the base monitor number and alarm contact block, and terminates the RS422 control signal. Main board Figure 4. Video termination and programming DIP switches To access the DIP switches, see Figure 5 and perform the following: 1) Ensure that power is not supplied to the unit. 2) Remove the two cover screws. 3) Slide back the top cover. Cover screws Figure 5. Removing the top cover B / March

Installation To terminate video, see Figure 4 and perform the following: 4) Set the termination switch to ON if the input does not loop through the unit. 5) Set the termination switch to OFF if the input loops through to other equipment. To set the program DIP switch, perform the following: 6) Set the base monitor number using switches 1 through 4 on the program DIP. See Table 1 for the switch settings and Figures 6 and 7 for examples. Note: A typical Digiplex keypad can access a maximum of 64 monitors. If the KTD-348 has been expanded to eight monitor outputs, it is recommended that the base monitor output number be set no higher than 57. If it is set at 61, then the second group of four monitor outputs (65 through 68) will be inaccessible from the keypad. Table 1. Base monitor numbers Base Monitor Number DIP Switch Setting Base Monitor Number DIP Switch Setting B / March 2003

Installation With setting 0000, the keypad will access monitor outputs 1 through 8 as: Monitor outputs 1 through 4 Monitor outputs 5 through 8 Figure 6. Example of base monitor output number 1 With setting 0010, the keypad will access monitor outputs 1 through 8 as: Monitor outputs 17 through 20 Monitor outputs 21 through 24 Figure 7. Example of base monitor output number B / March

Installation 7) Set the alarm contact numbers using switches 5 through 8 on the program DIP. See Table 2. Note: When additional alarm chassis are used in conjunction with the KTD-348, the contact numbers of the alarm contacts must not overlap. Table 2. For custom configurations, consult the factory B / March 2003

Installation 2.2 CONNECTING THE VIDEO CABLES Attach coaxial cables with BNC connectors to the back panel connections shown in Figure 8. Note: Each video channel has an input and output BNC for video looping. Monitor outputs 1 through 4 Monitor outputs 5 through 8 Video inputs 0 through 15 Video inputs 16 through 31 Figure 8. Video input and monitor output connections 2.3 CONNECTING THE CONTROL CABLES The RS422 and RS232 cables are connected to the nine-position removable terminal strip that is located on the back of the unit. See Figure 9. Note: The RS422 signal is polarity sensitive and must remain consistent throughout the system. Figure 9. Removable terminal strips on the back panel for the control cables B / March

Installation See Figures 10 and 11 and perform the following: 1) Observe polarity and connect the RS422 control cable, if used, from the controller keypad(s) to the terminal strip points shown in Figure 10. 2) Connect the RS232 control cable, if used, from the computer to the terminal strip points shown in Figure 11. If connecting from another external communication device, refer to that product s documentation for connection details. When switching cameras in groups, one monitor is designated as the master (i.e., primary) monitor and one or more others as slave (i.e., secondary) monitors. Sequence tours are defined individually for each monitor (master and slaves). When the master switches through its sequence tour, it causes all of its slaves to switch simultaneously through their respective tours. Note: With group switching, only one monitor can be designated as a master for each matrix switcher. Note: When a master monitor is switched to a camera that is not on its tour, the slave(s) will not follow. 1) Exit to the normal operating display on the keypad. 2) Select the monitor to be programmed as the master. 3) Press and hold set until the code entry display appears. 4) Enter the program access code (9, 5, 1, seq) and advance to the program select menu. If not using the video alarm feature, press set. Note: If a monitor is in the alarm mode, and the video alarm feature is being used, the camera site associated with the alarm contact will appear on the monitor screen when an alarm event occurs, unless the monitor is disarmed for that site. 8) To program a hold delay for alarm contacts, use to scroll down to HOLD DELAY and enter the desired hold delay time (00 14 seconds) with the number keys. To have the alarmed site display indefinitely, press clear. Note: Each alarm contact can be programmed with a hold delay that will keep the alarmed site on the monitor screen for a specified period of time after the alarm condition has ended. When displaying an alarmed site on the monitor screen indefinitely, a manual command is required to clear the site from the screen after the alarm event. 9) If you want an alarmed site to be annunciated at the keypad as a site call-in when an alarm occurs, use to scroll down to ANNUNCIATION and press set to enable annunciation. Pressing clear will disable annunciation. Note: The controller keypad must be programmed for annunciation (refer to the keypad manual), the RS422 control signal cable must be looped (see Figure 3), and external site annunciation devices must be in place for site annunciation to function. 10) If you want a camera to move to an assigned position when an alarm occurs, use to scroll down to FIND PRESET and press set to enable preset finding. Pressing clear will disable preset finding. Note: The controller keypad and PTZ receivers must be programmed for preset positioning. 11) If presets are being used, use to scroll down to POSITION and enter the number of the preset position programmed into the site s PTZ receiver. 12) At the contact configuration menu, press seq to return to the contact setup menu and repeat steps 2 through 11 for the next alarm contact. 13) After all alarm contacts have been programmed, press seq to return to the normal operating display on the keypad B / March 2003
