This class reviews the aspects of fire science related to ventilation while learning the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of ventilation, which type of ventilation is best suited for various environments, and building construction features that effect ventilation. Hands on ventilations drills will take place on LFR s Vertical Ventilation Prop. Bunker Gear required and eye protection required Active Shooter Training Sat. 8am - 12pm 1 We cannot assume that an active shooter situation will never happen to us. Eventually we are going to be faced with one of these situations that is both mentally and emotionally exhausting. As first responders, we have the ability and the duty to prepare ourselves to function appropriately and effectively in an active shooter situation. This class allows you to learn the ins and outs of approaching an active shooter incident, such as working with other responder organizations, gathering you personnel for effective deployment, patient care decision making, and how to stay alive. No prerequisites. Pump Operations Simulator Sat. 6pm - 10pm 1 This course starts by providing the student an understanding of what is occurring behind the pump panel when valves are pulled and buttons are pushed. A simulator is used to allow students to gain confidence, mastering pump operations. Students will then have a chance to get hands on experience on a fire engine, doing the operations that they have been learning and practicing in the classroom on the simulator.

Wildland Interactive Simulation Table Fri. 6pm -10pm ea. 0 This class is a presentation that takes place on the Texas A&M Forest Service s interactive simulation table covering the Double Diamond Wildland Fire that occurred at Lake Meredith/Fritch, Texas on May 11th, 201. This fire consumed over 2200 acres of land, destroying 225 homes and 13 outbuildings. Watch as the fire progresses throughout the landscape, overwhelming fires responders, and leaving a community in shock. Fire Science 0 This class provides a foundation of understanding about the science behind fire behavior. Students will gain scientific understanding on why fire behaves the way it does, as well as how and what it takes for fires to be extinguished. Upon completion, students will be able to comprehend the elements that go into fire suppression far past putting water on fire. Rescue Apprentice Safe Practices for Traffic Incident Response Sat. 8am - 12pm Sat. 8am - 12pm Sat. 1pm - 5pm 0 This course, based on NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, offers a combination of classroom and practical evolutions that is designed to provide specialty certification and training. This course is the basis that all other rescue courses are built on. Rescue Apprentice is a prerequisite for certification in all your rescue classes including extrication and ropes. Students must attend all 3 sessions, 12 hours. 0 The lecture course stresses how to address two simultaneous objectives specific to traffic collisions: safe procedures used to clear a crash scene, and maximizing roadway space available for continued traffic movement. The tabletop exercises are performed in student teams from a blend of the various disciplines (law, fire, EMS, rescue, towing, etc.) 12 8

Ladders/VEIS Thur. 6pm 10pm 2 Ladders in the fire service are as old as the steam pump. While most tools update and change, ladders have remained with their true form. Their simplicity does not take away from their usefulness and importance, and the skills needed to proficiently use them must be practiced. The class is a quick refresher on ladders with an emphasis on effectively using them on the fire ground. The ladder portion will flow into the Vent Enter Isolate Search, or VEIS, material. VEIS is a rapid, room specific search technique allowing quicker access to areas where victims are highly suspected to be. The hands-on section of the class will tie together the quick deployment of ladders, performing VEIS, and victim rescue techniques. With delayed response times being a reality for volunteers and homes burning at faster rates, VEIS is an extremely important tool for saving lives. Saving Our Own Sat. 8am - 12pm Sat. 1pm - 5pm Bunker Gear Required An intensive hands on firefighter rescue and survival course that includes the firefighter ladder bailout, breaching and escape through walls, window bailout techniques, the Denver Drill, and other life-saving skills. ea. Bunker Gear and Eye Protection Required

Principles of Modern Fire Attack (SLICE-RS) 8 Sat. 1pm - 5pm 3 It s time to rethink yesterday s fire science and initial fire attack strategies! We ll take lessons learned from the latest research conducted by NIST and UL to give you a fresh perspective on fire behavior, initial strategies and tactics, ventilation, command priorities, and more. PMFA includes hours of classroom instruction followed by hours of live fire dollhouse burns where you ll have the opportunity to see and affect the fire behavior discussed in class. Live Fire: We must have a signed live fire waiver on file for you to participate in live fire training. If you or your department has submitted one in the past we will verify your waiver and you will be approved. No Prerequisites. Nozzles & Hose Practices Sat. 1pm - 5pm Sat. 6pm - 10pm LIVE FIRE PPE is required for live fire portion of class SCBA will be provided 3 This course stars with an introduction to the fundamentals of fire service nozzles, hose, and basic hose handling techniques and moves onto more complex aspects of hose handling, hose storage, and hose lays. (Must attend both session for credit) 8 Wildland-Urban Interface Fires Bunker Gear Required Sat. 6pm - 10pm 0 Wildland-Urban Interface fires have become an increasing problem across our nation. This class provides information on what WUI is, how it effects fire response and tactics, as well as what we can do to be successful when dealing with these types of fire situations. As more and more people continue to build their homes in areas surrounded by nature, wildland-urban interface fires will continue to become more prevalent

You re an Officer. Now What? Sat. 6pm - 10pm 0 Your department elected you to be a fire officer. Have you ever wondered what exactly comes with that distinction? Join a discussion with others in same position and figure out what you should be doing, gain an understanding of the responsibilities that come with your position, learn the ins and outs of being a fire officer so that you can be a successful leader in your department. Critical Incident Stress Management Fri. 6pm 10pm 0 Everyday emergency responders are tasked with responding to other s worst days. Sometimes these responses have long lasting effects, not only on the people involved, but also on those responders. As we continue to learn more about Critical Incident Stress, we are finding that its way more common than we ever thought it to be. This class with discuss the effects of Critical Incident Stress, the signs and symptoms you should be looking for, and how to get responders help when they are dealing with the emotions that come from a stressful incident. *PPE / SCBA must be NFPA-approved.
