From the Desk of Fire Chief Keller.. As we close out 2018, I reflect on what has been another year of improvements within The Ira Township Fire Department. We have worked hard over the last year to replace aging equipment, maintain our current equipment, update policies and to create new ones. While not always easy, our firefighters have shown dedication and commitment to the changes. We have instituted a yearly firefighter based physical program to provide yearly physicals and fit testing in accordance with NFPA We have also instituted a clean gear approach to reduce the risk of firefighter related cancer which is on the rise country wide. The Ira Township Fire Department has also increased part time positions to ensure that our station is manned with two people for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. With this program in place we have successfully decreased our response times to emergencies to provide service to those in need faster. As in our mission statement our mission is TEAMWORK with a commitment to excellence. This departments strength lies in our team approach and our reputation and we will continue to strive to be the most highly trained, customer focused and technologically advanced fire service organization. Thank you to the Ira Township Board members, residents and members of the Ira Township Fire Department for your continued and unwavering support, and thank you for allowing me to serve this great community as Fire Chief. Thank You, Jason P. Keller Fire Chief Jason P. Keller Page 3

2018 Operational Updates: A new 2018 Ford F-350 was purchased to replace a Ford Excursion rescue that was 18 years old. This new rescue vehicle is now first run on medical emergencies and is licensed and equipped with basic life support equipment. With the approval from the Township board we updated, replaced, and outfitted all firefighters with up to date Class A dress uniforms. We also instituted a commendation bar to make sure every firefighter is remembered for their service, training and accomplishments. We will add commendation bars to the members Class A uniforms. These commendation bars will show the sacrifice and dedication each member has made to not only make this department proud but to make this community proud. We have purchased several new hand tools, fittings, hose and other equipment to update and replace aging equipment. Perch Pointe Conservation Club donated a vital piece of equipment to the fire department this past year. They held a fundraiser bought and donated a rescue trailer to be used behind an ATV or vehicle in the event of an accident that is a ways off the roadway to transport a patient. Page 6

2018 Administrative Review: The Ira Township Fire Department applied for several grants in ITFD was awarded a grant from FM Global in the amount of $1, These secured funds we used to update aging computers within the fire station. We have initiated a community smoke alarm program in This program will help to increase the awareness and ensure that every home has a working smoke alarm. These smoke alarms were purchased to begin this program. With the help of Energizer batteries ITFD was gifted with 300 9v batteries. Any resident in the Township can call the fire department to get a smoke alarm or batteries for their current smoke alarms or set up an appointment for the fire department to come to their home to check, test and replace their batteries and or smoke alarms if necessary. The community smoke alarm program will provide both fire safety education and help to further protect our community. Our community outreach programs are continuing to evolve as we continue to add and adjust several programs. This department has continued to provide a fire prevention program to the schools, daycares and organizations throughout the year. CPR / AED and First Aid classes are continually offered throughout the year. A yearly open house to welcome the public to see the fire station, equipment and to meet their firefighters. As these programs continue, coming into the new year we are working on additional community outreach programs to be able to offer to the residents of Ira Township. Page 7

2018 Training: The Ira Firefighters have dedicated to more than 1,000 hours of training in These trainings help to provide continued proficiency in our equipment. As an ongoing effort of this department we continue to provide refresher training in several areas to ensure that all personnel are able to deliver professional services. Once again we hosted a Firefighter I & II class this past summer. This class also provided our firefighters with additional state certified classes. This class held on our complex not only helps the new recruits of firefighters taking the class but also allows our firefighters to sharpen there skills as well. We had 2 firefighters pass their firefighter I & II class this past year. Our department was trained in ALICE training which is training in the event of an active shooter incident. With this training we were outfitted with 2 sets of bullet proof vests, helmets and first aid kits from emergency management. Page 8

Looking to 2019: As we close out 2018 we will continue to better our community outreach programs along with several other plans. The Fire Chief is working with the Township Board of Trustees on a new and longer millage proposal to go before the taxpayers in May This proposal will combine the three current millages into one millage with a slight increase of.25% for a total of 2.5 mils over 10 years. We will continue to be proactive in building, vehicle and equipment maintenance and upgrades. With our main engines approaching 16 years old and tanker at 27 years old we are working on plans for replacement of these. Our fire station and parking lot is also in need of several upgrades. We are working on replacing equipment that is well past its prime and maintenance costs are growing yearly. The Fire Department is embracing its role as a community asset and is working on development strategies with the future growth and development expected in the next few years in our Township. Thank you for taking the time to review the annual report of the Ira Township Fire Department. Page 9
