1 Fire Safety nstallation nstructions Model MMB- Main ontrol Board OPERATON The SEMENS Model MMB- board in each MXL System controls operations and monitors input device identity, network communication, and operator commands that are entered through the MKB-/ Annunciator/ Keyboard. The MMB- also provides two analog loop driver circuits. Each ALD loop can be used as lass B or lass A and can monitor and control up to 60 intelligent devices as well as programmable device relays. The MMB- module is field programmable. t is equipped with two programmable lass B (Style Y) or lass A (Style Z) notification appliance circuits. Each circuit can activate up to. amps of audible or visual notification appliances. The module also has auxiliary relays for the external monitoring of ommon System Alarm, ommon System Trouble, and ommon Supervisory conditions. The ommon Supervisory relay is user programmable. The MMB- includes a built-in battery charger and transfer circuit. The charger is microprocessor controlled and incorporates a brownout circuit that switches the System to standby batteries during the loss or reduction of the primary source A. The System can display the real time battery voltage, the A voltage, and the charger current on the MKB-/ alphanumeric display. t also has a amp, VD output that powers ZM- modules. NSTALLATON Always remove power before installation. nstalling the MMB- Board Unpack the MMB-. nspect the module, looking for such things as integrated circuits (s) not firmly seated in their sockets, bent pins, connectors not properly installed, dirt, packing material on the board, etc. The installation kit consists of the following: Four #0 nuts Two resistors Battery cable with wire To install the MMB-:. Place the MMB- with the mounting bracket over the four standoffs on the MBR-MP mounting plate in the upper left portion of the backbox (See Figure ).. Secure in place using the hardware provided. Be sure the screws and nuts are tight, as they provide the earth ground connection for the MMB-. 3 ONFGURATON The MMB- has two jumpers jumper P for MNET and jumper P7 for Real Time clock which must be set for proper operation. Refer to Figure for the location of the jumpers. MNET To configure the MNET for either Style or Style 7 operation, set jumper P on the MMB-. f the MMB- has no remote PSR-s or is connected to remote PSR-s with a Style MNET, set the jumper to position S. f the MMB- is connected to remote PSR-s with a Style 7 MNET, set the jumper to S7 and install a NET-7 (Refer to the NET-7 nstallation nstructions, P/N -099). Real Time lock The second jumper on the MMB- is P7 which must be set for the real time clock to operate properly. Move the jumper to the on position to provide backup battery power to the real time clock. Note: The real time clock requires MXL/MXLV firmware Revision 9.0 or higher to operate. nternal Wiring To complete the MMB- internal wiring connections, follow the steps below, skipping those that do not apply to your particular MXL System.. Main Power onnections Primary power for the MMB- is provided by the MPS-6/-6W or MPS-/-W. Both of these mount in the lower right-hand corner of the MXL enclosure. Follow the instructions below for the appropriate power supply. MPS-6/-6W nstall the MPS-6/-6W (See MPS-6/-6W nstructions, P/N -090/W). With the A mains disconnected, connect the MPS-6/-6W power cable to P of the MMB-. Be sure that the jumper assembly is installed in P of the MMB-. f this jumper is not installed, the MMB- will detect a permanent A fail or indicate auxiliary power voltage is low. MPS-/-W nstall the MPS-/-W (See MPS-/-W nstructions, P/N /W). Remove and discard the jumper assembly installed in P of the MMB-. Disconnect the A mains. onnect the MPS-/-W power cable to P of MMB-.. Battery Power onnection The MMB- kit includes a battery cable (wiring harness). Use the harness to connect the V backup batteries to P of MMB-.. MOM- Optional Module ard age There are two connections between the MMB- and the MOM- board. a. The first is the V power connection. P provides backward compatibility with the MMB- and should only be used when replacing an MMB-. P is limited to amps. The MMB- allows the use of either an MPS-6/-6W or an MPS-/-W. TB terminals and supply V to the MOM- with a maximum of 6 amps (MPS-6/-6W) or amps (MPS-/-W) available. This output must be derated by the total current drawn from NA (.A max), NA (.A max) and the ZM-, power (A max) on the MMB-. onnect TB, and on the MMB- to TB6, and on the MOM. Field Wiring (Refer to Figure ) The screw terminals for the field wiring circuits are located on the left and right sides of the MMB-. They are labeled TB through TB. The field wiring circuits available are: ZM- power Analog device loop Analog device loop Notification appliance circuit (Styles Y and Z) Notification appliance circuit (Styles Y and Z) ommon alarm relay ommon supervisory relay ommon trouble relay Style RS-8 Network (MNET) The following sections describe each circuit type and give the related instructions. Refer also to the wiring diagrams. Auxiliary lass A V Power Auxiliary power is available on TB, terminals 9 through. The circuit is power limited per NE Article 760 and is rated at amp, 8- VD. This power supply is for use with the ZM- Remote onventional Zone module. Figure shows lass B wiring; Figure shows lass A wiring. lass B wiring can be used to obtain the maximum of 0 ZM-s. Each lass B wire run can support a maximum of 0 ZM-s, ohms max. Multiple lass B power connections can be used provided you do not exced the rating above (0 ZM-s max and ohms per run max). For example, you could have four individual lass B power runs, for a total of 0 devices (6,,, and 7 ZM-s), each of the four runs not exceeding ohms resistance. Analog Device Loops and (TB and TB) These two loops each support up to 60 analog type devices. To install a device for lass B, refer to Figure 6 and the electrical specifications. To install a device for lass A, refer to Figure 6 and the electrical specifications. Electrical Specifications for the Analog Device Loops. Electrical ratings: SUPERVSORY: 0 VD peak, 0mA max ALARM: 0 VD peak, 0mA max (60 devices in alarm). All wiring must be in accordance with Article 760 of NE or the local building codes. Refer to Figure 6.
5 . Only the list of devices in Table may be used. A maximum of 60 devices may be connected to a single loop.. No end of line device is required.. Both circuits are power limited per NFPA 70, NE. Each detector, or group of detectors, requires a twowire circuit of 8 AWG minimum thermoplastic fixture wire, enclosed in a conduit, or 8 AWG limited-energy shielded cable without conduit, if permitted by local building codes. 6. Total circuit resistance must not exceed 00 ohms. Maximum capacitance: 0.µF between loop and loop 0.8µF between loop and chassis 0.8µF between loop and chassis 7.
