3 Line Counter Components The ND4000 line counter consists of 4 Proximity Sensors (2 per winch), a Sensor Signal Conditioning Box (SSCD), Power Supply Module (PSM), Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable and Computer Display. Proximity Sensors at the winch detect Spool Rotation. The sensor pulses are fed into the SSCD where they are decoded into a serial count that is fed into a Computer via a USB cable. The ND4000 Line Counter software translates the pulse counts into line length, Spool RPM and direction. Proximity Sensors 2 wire Analog output inductive sensors with a 4-20 ma output signal Connecting the Proximity Sensors to the SSCD 2 wire shielded cable must be used to connect the sensors to the SSCD. The push-in connection terminals on the SSCD accept AWG wire. For the same length, 18 gauge wire has one tenth the resistance of 26 gauge wire. As push-in terminals are used, support the cables adequately to prevent pull out due to cable weight. Terminals are arranged as 2 groups of 4: one group for each winch. Connections to the SSCD are as shown in the following figure (Which is attached to the SSCD): Red to Sensor + Tin the wire ends before inserting into the Push-in terminal blocks. To release push the red release lever and pull out the wire. Fuse The Fuse Holder is accessible from the opposite of the terminal block side of the SSCD. The fuse type is 5mm x 20mm. The fuse should be rated at approximately.5 A. Page 3

4 USB Connect a USB cable (supplied) between the SSCD and the Computer. The USB cable has a standard Type A USB connector on one end and a Mini Type B USB connector on the SSCD end. Computer Display The ND4000 is shipped with a Windows tablet PC. Power Connector On Off button USB ND4000 Line Counter Software Software comes pre-installed. USB Running the software The USB cable must be plugged in. You can register more than one SSCD on the same Display Computer. Operating the ND4000 Line Counter All information is this section refers to the ND4000 supplied with a Display Computer Display Settings The display will scale full screen to any monitor resolution. Use the default text size, otherwise there may be a problem with text cut off. Page 4

5 Navigating the Display The following figure outlines the display. The various components are described. Page 5

ZERO Set Using the ZERO Button The ZERO Button will set the current reading to 0. The button can be pushed multiple times. When Line is hauled back beyond 0, the display will show negative numbers. The zero point is not retained between shut down and power on of the Line Counter. If line is cut, use the Cut Line feature to recalibrate the winch. The alarm settings are based on the display value from 0. Page 6

10 Choosing the Alarm A number of sounds are included as alarm sounds. Pick the alarm of choice from the drop down list. Page 10

11 Adding your own Alarm Sound You can add your own custom alarm (say,a recording your wife offering words of encouragement) by adding a wav file to the sounds folder in the install folder of the application. Something under 5 seconds long is preferable. Page 11

12 Setup Company Setup the winch on first run by entering the Company Name. Make Sure to get it right the first time because it can t be changed once entered. Select Ok Add a company name select Save then Ok Page 12

15 You MUST select the vessel before setting the parameter otherwise they will not be saved on form exit. All units are inches including the cable diameter. The top layer is measured in wraps. The diagram at left references the spool parameters. Sliders can be used or the number can be typed into the box. Note: the Display Computer has a touch screen so that a virtual keyboard is used. Slide for variable Using a slider increment There are three regions for adjusting a slider: Click for small increment Click for Large Increment Display Options A number of display options are accessible under the Tools menu. Toggle Display: This will show or hide the RPM and Line speed details at the top of the window. Enhance Precision: this will toggle the decimal point on or off and disable or enable rounding. 16 Hue: The sub menu items will change the back color of the screen to compensate for light conditions. The custom Option will bring up a standard windows color dialog. Adjust Accuracy: this option will bring up the adjustment dialog. This dialog is semi transparent and can be dragged anywhere on the screen. Page 16

17 Adjust the sliders for a true reading. The winch display will be scaled by the ratio of the adjusted value to the sensed value. Note: The winch accuracy is most affected by the top layer settings and accuracy improves as the level wind improves. This feature is intended to adjust the accuracy at a specific line out value and may not be accurate for lesser or greater distances spooled. Use the Set button to save the adjusted value. The settings can be cleared using the Clear Button. Page 17
