1 ACCESSORY KIT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION SMOKE DETECTOR KITS, UNIT MOUNT MODELS 2SD , 2SD AND 2SD For 3.0 THRU 12.5 TON ROOFTOP UNITS GENERAL Before installing read all of the manufacturers installation and maintenance instructions. IMPORTANT: Please refer to product price pages for proper unit and smoke detector matchup. The 2SD , 2SD AND 2SD Smoke Detector Kits contain the parts and hardware to mount the smoke detector in the following applications. Determine which application is to be installed. 1. Return Air Stream (with Economizer) 2. Return Air Stream (with/out Economizer) 3. Supply AIr Stream (Blower Compartment) Model 2SD For Return Air Smoke Detector Application with and without Economizer. 2SD Smoke Detector Components are listed in Table 1. Step 1: Insert the 12 EMT extension tube (with plastic adapter) in the inlet port of the smoke detector until it snaps into place. See Figure 2. Step 2: Insert the gray extension tube in the outlet port of the smoke detector until it snaps into place. See Figure 2. FIGURE 2: UAI-A-0210

2 Step 3: Attach 1/2 liquid tight fittings to both ends of the liquid tight flex conduit. Slide A over conduit and then insert B by screwing it into conduit. Place C over B then tighten A on to C until fitting is secured. See Figure 3. Step 6: Secure the flanged sampling tube to the hamper using four x 1/2 screws provided, making sure that the holes of the sampling tube face into the returning airflow. See Figure 5. "C" "B" "A" FIGURE 3: Step 4: Remove the return air split panels and the return air damper from unit. FIGURE 5: Step 7: On top of the return air damper, remove the aluminum tape that covers the holes for mounting the smoke detector. See Figure 6. Step 5: Insert the red plastic plug into the flanged end of the 23 EMT sampling tube, and then slide the tube through side of air damper. See Figure 4. FIGURE 6: FIGURE 4: Unitary Products Group 2

3 Step 8: Position the smoke detector atop the damper by passing the extension tube through the access hole and secure the detector using two #10-16 x 1 Hextex screws provided. See Figure 7. Step 11: Disconnect factory 4 pin plug with Red jumper from Socket S13 located on partition wall. See Figure 9. FIGURE 7: Step 9: Attach the liquid-tight flex conduit assembly with fittings to the 23 sampling tube mounted in the return air damper and to the 12 extension tube mounted in the smoke detector. Slide the nut and compression ring from the conduit fitting upon the sampling tube. Put the end of the conduit fitting over the end of the sampling tube and then tighten nut down onto the fitting. Secure flex to the sample tube. Repeat procedure for the extension tube. See Figure 8. FIGURE 9: Step 12: Connect the smoke detector s power harness plug P-13 into socket S13 located on unit s partition. See Figure 10. S13/P13 PLUG FIGURE 10: FIGURE 8: Step 10: Slide the return air damper back into the unit. Step 13: Test per smoke detector manufacturer specifications. See manufacture installation and maintenance instructions located in the parts bag. Step 14: Replace all panels removed during installation. Unitary Products Group 3

4 For Return Air Application without Economizer. Step 1: Attach the smoke detector to the return bracket with the two #10-16 x 1 Hextec screws and insert the black insulating bushing in the top of the angle bracket. See Figure 11. Step 5: Insert the 12 flanged EMT extension tube into the opening above the filter rack. Secure with two #10-16 x 1/2 screws provided. See Figure 13. FIGURE 13: FIGURE 11: Step 2: Insert the 22 EMT sampling tube into the inlet port of the smoke detector until it snaps into place. Make sure that the holes of the sampling tube will be facing into the returning airflow. Insert the 6.56 extension tube into exhaust port of the smoke detector until it snaps into place. See Figure 12. Step 6: Install detector assembly to partition wall using four #10-16 x 1/2 blunt screws provided. NOTE: Installation may require the removal of Grip Nail holding insulation to the panel. See Figure 14. FIGURE 14: FIGURE 12: Step 3: Insert the red plastic plug into the end of sampling tube. Step 4: Step 7: Connect the open end of the 12 EMT tube, installed in Step 6, to the 6.56 extension tube of the detector using the 1-inch diameter, clear plastic tubing. Secure the tubing to the extension tubes using two 9 wire ties. See Figure 14. Open the return air split panels. 4 Unitary Products Group

5 Step 8: Disconnect factory 4 pin plug with Red jumper from Socket S13 located on partition wall. See Figure 15. Connect controller s power harness plug P13 into socket S13 located on partition wall as shown in Figure 14. Step 10: Test per smoke detector manufacturer specifications. 6 Step 1: Remove return air split panels. Step 2: If the unit has an economizer installed, install the controller directly to the top of the air damper using two #10-16 x 1 Hextec screws as shown in Figure 17, and then skip to Step 4. and insert the black insulating bushing in the top of the angle bracket as shown in Figures 18 and 19. 7 Step 3: Install controller assembly to partition wait using four #10-16 x 1/2 blunt screws provided. NOTE: Installation may require the removal of Grip Nail holding insulation to the panel. See Figure 20. FIGURE 21: Step 5: FIGURE 20: Step 4: Disconnect factory 4 pin plug with Red jumper from Socket S13 located on partition wall. See Figure 21. Route the controller s power harness Plug P13 through the bushing installed in Step 2. Connect controller s power harness plug P13 into socket S13 located on partition wall as shown in Figure 22. Step 6: Route the unit s pigtail harness Socket S14 through the bushing installed in Step 2. Connect controller s pigtail harness Plug P14 into unit harness Socket S14 as seen in Figure 22. 8 Step 7: Secure the unit s and controller s pigtail harnesses together in a neat workmanlike manner as seen in Figure 22. Step 8: Open blower access panel and remove the two screws shown in Figure 23. Step 10: Slide out blower assembly. Remove the two screws shown in Figure 25. NOTE: Install the smoke detector bracket assembly using the same holes and screws previously removed. See Figure 26. 9 Step 11: Insert plastic adapter piece into back of smoke detector until it snaps in place. See Figure 27. FIGURE 28: Step 16: FIGURE 27: Step 12: Insert the belled-end of the copper exhaust tube into plastic adapter as shown in Figure 27. NOTE: Make sure that the copper tube is fully inserted into the smoke detector. Step 13: Secure the copper exhaust tube to side of blower scroll using the loop clamp and a 10 x 16 x.5 screw. After installation, the copper exhaust tube should be level. See Figure 26. Step 14: Insert the red plastic plug into the 22 EMT sampling tube. Step 15: With holes facing the indoor coil, insert 22 EMT sampling tube into the smoke detector until it snaps into place. See Figure 28. Slide blower assembly back into unit and reinstall the two screws previously removed in Step 8. Step 17: Insert plug P28 of the smoke detector sensor into unit harness socket S28. Secure wiring to the smoke detector bracket using wire tie. See Figure 29. FIGURE 29: Step 18: Test per smoke detector manufacturer specifications. See Figure 31. NOTE: Reinstall the plastic cover. Step 2: If the unit has an economizer, refer to the section entitled (Return AIr Smoke Detector Application with Economizer), and follow the steps for installation of the Return air smoke detector. If the unit does not have an economizer, refer to the section entitled (Return Air Smoke Detector Application without Economizer), and follow the steps for installation of the Return air smoke detector. Step 3: For installation of the supply air sensor, proceed to the previous section.for Supply AIr Smoke Detector Option and begin with Step 8. SIMPLIFIED DIP SWITCH FIGURE 30:2SD SMOKE DETECTOR KIT For Return Air and Supply Air Smoke Detector Applications Only. Step 1: Remove the smoke detectors clear plastic cover.
