1 SECTION THEATRICAL LIGHTING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 Related Documents A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 Summary A. This Section includes the following equipment for a new theatrical dimming systems: 1) Dimming and Switching Systems (Houselight and Stagelight). 2) Stage Control Console 3) Stage Manager s Panel with House and Stage Control 4) Hand Held Infrared Remote Control Transmitter. 5) Warm White LED Ellipsoidal Spot Lights 6) RGBA LED Battens 7) Data and Power Cables 8) Miscellaneous equipment and accessories. 9) Programming and owner training. 10) Feeders, conductors, and control wiring. 11) Installation of wiring. B. All conduit, back boxes, wiring, and labor and materials required for this system shall be provided. Refer to drawings for specific requirements. C. Scope of work includes supply and installation of a complete stage lighting and control system as is indicated below and shown on the plans. Additional equipment required for proper installation and not shown shall be supplied to provide the end user with a fully functional and properly installed system. 1.3 Submittals A. General: Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract and Division 1 Specification Sections. B. Product data for equipment listed in 1.2 A above. Include dimensions and data on features and components. Include wiring diagrams and elevation views of front panels of control and indicating devices. Include illustrations, dimensioned outline drawings and schematic diagrams for control of luminaires and all switching circuits. Include data on ratings and features of devices / 1

2 C. Maintenance data for control systems for inclusion in Operating and Maintenance Manual specified in Division Quality Assurance A. Comply with NFPA 70 "National Electrical Code" for components and installation and NEC Article 520. B. Listing and Labeling: Provide products specified in this Section that are listed and labeled. 1) The terms "Listed" and "Labeled": As defined in the National Electrical Code, Article 100. C. Manufacturer Qualifications: Firms experienced in manufacturing equipment of the types and capacities indicated shall: PART 2 - PRODUCTS 1) Have continuously engaged in the production of theatrical lighting and control equipment for not less than twenty-five years. 2) Maintain a service center capable of providing training, parts and emergency maintenance and repairs to the job site. 3) Provide a skilled factory trained and sponsored service tech available during off hours when the factory is closed. Provide the end user with necessary contact information for after hours service. 4) Provide equipment that meets the performance specifications as indicated below and as is shown on the plans. Deviation from the specifications and plans or providing equipment with lesser quality or that does not meet the specifications and plans shall not be acceptable. 2.1 Equipment shall be equal in quality and performance to equipment as manufactured by Lehigh Electric Products company whose catalog numbers are used herein for establishing equipment criteria. Equal manufacturers subject to compliance with the specification shall provide a complete prior submittal for engineering review 14 days prior to the bid date. Approved manufacturers shall be listed in an addendum. 2.2 Stage Manager's Panel (SMP) A. Description: The SMP shall serve as the central house light control point and the hub of the entire system. Include a custom enclosure, DMX 4-Way Optosplitter. House light Control, to include a 120 Channel Capacitive Touch Master Control Station with LCD Screen, Programming Keypad, to create, edit, and re-label presets; a set of Raise/Lower touch buttons to override current preset, 1-IR Receiver, 12-Manual Touch Sliders controlling 10 pages of 12 zone controllers, for a total of 120 DMX Channels. Provide Impress DMX DTM612 by Leigh Electric / 2

3 2.3 Dimmer Panel A. Description: Microprocessor-based, modular system consisting of dimmer and control modules operated from remote-control stations or a control console. B. Dimmer Panel: 1) Modular, welded steel cabinet with a textured black powder-coat finish and removable front panel. 2) Wall mounted design for surface or recessed mounting. 3) Cabinet dimensions not to exceed 17" wide, 39" high, and 4" deep. 4) Main and neutral lugs: Rated to 100 amps per phase for 120/208V, 60Hz, 3 phase, 4 wire input. Main lugs designed for up to #1/0 AWG wire. 5) UL and cul listed under Industrial Control Equipment UL508. 6) Factory wired dimmer input power and control wiring. Provide terminals for contractor load wires up to #8Ga. 7) Thermostatically controlled fans to maintain proper operating temperatures in ambient to 40 o C (104 o F). 8) Provide sub-feed lugs to interconnect two dimmer racks with one input power feed. 9) Provide: Sunburst SB2400 Series dimmer cabinet with 6-2.4KW dimmers. C. Dimmers: 1) Dimmer rating: 2400 watts continuous duty (1200 watts maximum when used with circuits including electronic low-voltage transformers). 2) Overload protection: 20 amp, fully magnetic, switch duty rated circuit breaker per dimmer that is UL listed under UL489 as a branch circuit protector with a minimum 10,000 AIC rating. 3) Filtering: Toroidal choke to limit the current rise time to a minimum of 350 micro-seconds as measured from 10% to 90% of the output waveform at maximum level. 4) Universal dimmer to control incandescent, low-voltage (electronic or magnetic), neon/cold-cathode, quartz, 2-wire phase control dimmable fluorescent ballasts, and non-dimmed (switched) loads. 5) Optional dimmer configurations shall include dimmers to control 3-wire or 0-10V dimmable fluorescent ballasts as scheduled. Dimmers to include a cutoff relay to de-energize the fluorescent circuit when the control setting is at zero. 6) Dimmer performance: a. Temperature range: 0 o to 40 o C ambient temperature. b. Line voltage range from 90 to 140 volts. c. Square law-dimming curve. d. Voltage regulation to within 3.5V of the input voltage. e. Dimmer efficiency exceeding 95%. f. Symmetrical alternating current output, eliminating any DC component to the load. D. Dimmer Panel Electronics: 1) Plug-in dimmer control cards complete with firing circuitry. 2) Digital receiver module with programming keys and LED display: / 3

4 a. Electronic patch to assign dimmers to up to 512 DMX or 36 Collage channels. 1. Control configuration options: Collage only, DMX only, Collage/Collage input and Collage/DMX. 2. Collage/DMX and Collage/Collage receivers allow each dimmer to be assigned to one or both control input sources. Provide programming to select the control precedence or pile-on mode if a dimmer is controlled by two input sources. b. Assign dimmer load type to fluorescent (2-wire phase control dimmable ballasts), incandescent/low-voltage, or non-dim control modes. 3) Test and operation modes: a. Ramp test: Fades all channels up/down at a set rate. b. Focus check: Operate a selected dimmer at an output level. c. Control signal failure response: 1. DMX: Select system response to a DMX signal loss; all dimmers to either Full or Off 2. Collage: All dimmers to Full. d. Reset system parameters to factory default settings. e. Over-temp indicator. f. By-pass mode switch: In by-pass mode, system provides full on/off manual operation, without control stations, of each dimmer using the dimmer circuit breaker. g. Fire alarm (emergency) by-pass: Brings all dimmers to full when activated by a dry contact input. h. Programmable maximum output level for each dimmer. 4) Provide Sunburst 2412 Panel with data line SMP, 1- Belden # Remote Stage Relay System: A. Description: Digitally controlled, distributed dimming/relay system for portable or fixed installation. B. General: 1) Prewired dimmer and/or relay assembly with the dimmers or relays mounted in a steel enclosure with screw cover panels. Finish is a black powder-coat with silk-screened legends. 2) Relay output: One receptacle per circuit: stage-pin for dimmers and parallel blade for relays. Flush mount. All receptacles to be electrically grounded. 3) DMX512A input and output connectors. 4) UL and cul listed under Industrial Control Equipment. Mechanical relays to be Electronic Ballast (EB) tested and rated for use with LED type stage lighting equipment. Systems that do not have the EB rating will not be considered acceptable. 5) Required accessories: / 4

5 a. Safety cables b. C-clamps c. Pipe mounting brackets. d. Power connector and mating receptacle. 6) Provide four (4) Slimdim SR-2 Relay Pack by Lehigh Electric Products Co. 2.4 Stage Lighting Control Console: Console to be a microprocessor based controller designed for theatrical control. Console to meet or exceed the DSQ Series as specified below: 1) Portable tabletop design with a powder coated steel housing and silkscreened legends. 2) 2-Scene configuration with 2 rows of 12 channel controllers. 3. Channel bump buttons with integral LED. 4. Grandmaster controller and blackout switch. 5. Split crossfade with tracking LEDs to indicate the fade status. a. Adjustable fade time from 0 to 300 seconds. b. Active crossfade may be stopped, reversed, or manually completed at any time. 6. Mode switch: Selects 2 scene preset or single scene operation. a. 2-scene mode: Crossfades between Scene A and Scene B. b. Single scene mode: Scene A and Scene B controllers are combined into one scene with double the channels of the 2-scene mode. Hold feature allows crossfades between the active and hold scenes. 7. Solo Mode/Hold switch a. 2-Scene mode: Sets channel and submaster bump buttons to normal (Bumped channel piles-on to the active scene) or solo (Bumped channel goes to full and all others go off) modes. b. Single scene mode: Stores the current levels of the channel controllers to the "Hold" memory, which makes the channel controllers available for the next scene. Crossfading is between the Hold and active scenes. Bump solo mode is disabled in the single scene mode. 8. Six programmable submaster controllers. a. Each submaster includes a bump button with integral LED. b. Channels assignable to multiple submasters using the program switch. c. Three submaster memory pages for a total of 18 submasters. LEDs indicate active memory page. 9. Overtemp indicator light. 10. Control output to be USITT DMX512-A protocol. Console shall include a 10 control cable to mate with the remote receptacles. 11. On/off power switch. Console powered by an internal power supply and to include a 6 power cord. 12. Digital, microprocessor based memory control providing programmable cues and patch control. Module to include: a. Cue switch / 5

6 1. Manual mode: 2 scene-preset control with timed cross-fades and pile-on channels and submasters. 2. Cue mode: Channel controllers set the control levels for the recorded cue. Go button automatically sequences the cues with recorded fade times. Cues may be run out of sequence. b. Cues: Record 99 cues plus blackout with cues stored in an independent memory and not assigned to channel or submaster controllers. Submasters and channel controllers to remain active and pile-on to any active cue. c. Chase: Single chase control with one step for each channel. 1. Chase runs in forward and reverse directions. 2. Adjustable rate controller. 3. Adjustable output level controller. d. Display: 2 digit LED display for cue number, dimmer patch, and fade time programming and operation. 1. Up/down cursor keys select the displayed data. 2. Now and Next LEDs indicate the cue shown in the display. e. Patch: Patch 96 dimmers to any channel with the patch channels equal to the number of console channels. The console shall have separate patch tables for the 2-scene and single scene modes. f. Memory lock: Limits access to all recorded data. g. Overtemp status indicator LED. h. Recorded data to be stored in a non-volatile memory with 10-year lithium battery back-up. 13. Console receptacle stations for remote console operation. Provide at two locations as shown on the drawings. Receptacle stations shall be a single gang faceplate with the back box furnished by the contractor. 14. Provide DSQ 30/60 Control Console with standard 25' DMX cable and 6' Power Cable by Lehigh Electric Products Co. 2.5 Stage Lighting Fixtures A. Ellipsoidal Spotlights LED: Six inch ellipsoidal 190 watt rated. Unit has framing shutters and pattern slot. Provide with c-clamp and safety cable, as required. 1) Tunable white true high-cri LED profile spot 2800K 6500K. 2) DMX and Powercon in and out connectors. 3) Adjustable hard and soft focus. B-size GOBO slot. 4) 10,000 Lumen Output. Tunable white 2800K 6500K. 5) DMX and local control / 6

7 6) Supplied with power and DMX cables as required for installation as shown on plans. 7) Provide : 8 LE190WW for front spotlighting locations as shown on the plans. B.. LED STRIPLIGHT- 5 Color LED Striplight Batten for General Wash over stage. Provide complete with accessories, safety cables, c-clamps, power and data cables, as required. 1) RGBAW LED Batten-144 LED Stage Strip Light w/36r, 36G, 36B, 18W, 18A. 2) DMX Channels: 3,4,5,6,7,9, 12, or 15. 3) Built-in Auto and Custom programs recalled via DMX Control 4) RGBWA color mixing via DMX or manually 5) Color Temperature presets from 2800K to 10000K. 6) 3-pin and 5-pin DMX input/output connections 7) Selectable, smooth dimming curves for programming versatility 8) LED Display with password protection 9) Neutrik powercon power input/output connections 10) Simple DMX Channel Profiles for programming versatility 11) Adustable trunnions/mounting brackets 12) Installed Optics 15 Beam Angle, 30 Field Angle 13) Cable length: 5 ft.; Connection: Edison 14) Weight: 19.6 lb.; Dimensions: 39,3 x 5.2 x 8.2 in, 15) Approvals: CE, ETLC 16) Provide: 10 LE-144, RGBWA LED Wash Batten with cable and accessories. 2.4 Finishes A. Steel Parts: Manufacturers' standard black or dark color finishes for luminaires, accessories, control components. B. Aluminum Housing and Wireway Parts: Manufacturers' standard black or dark color finishes. C. Extension cables, standard black / 7

8 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 Installation A. Install equipment according to manufacturer's written instructions. B. Set permanently mounted items plumb and level and square with ceilings and walls. C. Mount and connect luminaire. 1) Arrange as indicated or so each luminaire, each dimmer and the House Control can be operated and the system demonstrated in all operating modes. D. Mounting of Equipment: Conform to manufacturer's instructions and Division 26 Section "Supporting Devices." E. Mounting heights indicated are to bottom of unit for suspended items and to center of unit for wall-mounted ones. Coordinate exact location/mounting height of all equipment with the Architect and all other trades. 3.2 Identification A. Identify components and power and control wiring according to Division 16 Section "Electrical Identification." B. Label each luminaire, lighting outlet, and dimmer module with a unique designation. Make designations on elevated components readable from the floor with 2 minimum size labels. 3.3 Control Wiring Installation A. Install wiring between control devices as specified in Division 16 Section "Wires and Cables" for hard wired connections. Install wiring in raceway except cable and plug connections. B. Wiring in Enclosures: Bundle, train, and support. 3.4 Field Quality Control A. Manufacturer's Field Services: Arrange and pay for the service of a factoryauthorized service representative to test, adjust, and program the lighting control system. B. Test Labeling: Upon satisfactory completion of tests and observations, apply a label to tested components indicating test results, date, and responsible organization and person. C. Schedule visual and mechanical inspections and electrical tests with at least 14- days advanced notification / 8

9 D. Visual and Mechanical Inspections: Include the following. 1) Inspect each luminaire, outlet, module, and item of equipment for defects, finish failure, corrosion, and physical damage, NRTL labeling, and nameplate. 2) Exercise and perform operational tests on mechanical parts and operable devices according to manufacturer's instructions or routine functional operation. 3) Check tightness of electrical connections with torque wrench calibrated within the previous 6 months. Use manufacturers recommended torque values. 4) Verify proper protective device settings and fuse types and ratings. E. Electrical Tests: Perform according to manufacturer's instructions. Exercise caution testing devices containing solid-state components. 1) Insulation resistance tests of conducting parts of control components and connecting supply feeder and control circuits. Minimum acceptable insulation resistance is 100 megohms or greater. 2) Continuity tests of circuits. 3.5 Cleaning and Adjusting A. Remove paint splatters and other spots, dirt, and debris. Repair scratches and mars of finish to match original finish. Clean luminaires, devices, and equipment internally and externally using methods and materials as recommended by manufacturers. 3.6 Demonstration A. Demonstrate functions, features, and adjustments for each luminaire with luminaire energized and operating with the indicated lamp. B. Demonstrate the system to prove compliance with requirements. C. Direct Training: Arrange and pay for the services of a factory-authorized service representative to demonstrate lighting control system and train Owner's personnel. 1) Conduct training in operation and maintenance as specified under "Instructions to Owner's Employees" in Division 1 Section "Project Closeout." Include training relating to system operation and maintenance procedures. 2) Schedule training with at least a 14-day advance notification to the factory representative / 9

10 3.7 Commissioning PROJ. NO ) Provide: Minimum of four hours of on-site training to be scheduled with the factory on a 14-day advance notice. 4) Factory Representative to provide video recording service of the equipment demonstration during training and programming. A. Operational Tests: Energize lighting controls systems, program controls, and check controlled outlets for light levels. Program test scenes so every luminaire is tested throughout its operating range with the installed lamp. Check programmed function at each house control, entry, and emergency light control station. Adjust components and revise installation to correct deficiencies. Correct deficiencies and retest deficient items. Verify by the system tests that specified requirements are met.
