2 Use in potentially explosive atmospheres Special regulations must be observed in potentially explosive atmospheres as regards the power supply, signal inputs / outputs and ground connections. The information relating specifically to explosion protection that appears within the individual chapters must be observed. NOTICE Potential damage to parts All parts must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications, as well as relevant standards and regulations. Commissioning and operation must be performed in accordance with ATEX 137 or BetrSichV (German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health), EN (Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres), and EN and 2/A1 (Electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust). 2.1 Degree ofprotection The connection parts of the temperature sensor must be installed so that a degree of protection of at least that of the type of explosion protection used can be achieved. 2.2 Temperature classes The temperature sensors are marked as conforming to temperature class T6 as standard. If the existing explosive gas atmosphere is to be assigned a temperature class of T5, T4, T3, T2, or T1, the temperature sensors can be used at correspondingly higher process temperatures. 2.3 Electrostatic charging For use in hazardous areas, attention must be paid so that an unallowable electrostatic charging of the temperature sensor is avoided. 2.4 Grounding If, for functional reasons, the intrinsically safe circuit needs to be grounded by means of a connection to the equipotential bonding, it may only be grounded at one point. 2.5 Interconnection If the temperature sensor is operated in an intrinsically safe circuit, proof that the interconnection is intrinsically safe must be provided in accordance with DIN VDE 0165/Part 1 (EN /2004 and IEC /2003). An interconnection certificate must always be provided for intrinsically safe circuits. 2.6 Configuration The transmitter can be configured in the potentially explosive atmosphere in compliance with the interconnection certificate, either within the potentially explosive atmosphere itself using approved handheld terminals or by coupling an Ex modem into the circuit outside the potentially explosive atmosphere. 2.7 Ex relevant specifications See Chapter "7 Ex relevant specifications", page 13. 9 4 Mounting 4.1 General information The temperature sensor (thermocouple, resistance thermometer) must be brought into maximum contact with the medium to be measured. The type of protection will be voided by any damage to the connection head or the threads and gaskets. Firmly connect the connection lines with the connection terminals. Observe the correct polarity for thermocouples. In the case of resistance thermometers, take note of whether a two-, three-, or four-wire circuit is being used. When installing temperature sensors in existing thermowells, make sure that the temperature sensor can be inserted easily. Otherwise, clean the thermowell inside. The temperature sensor must be firmly and securely installed in a way that conforms to the requirements of the application process. Observe the specified sensor and circuit type. After connecting the connection lines using a suitable tool (screwdriver, wrench), ensure that the connection heads are securely closed and sealed. Be sure to observe here that the sealing rings of the connection heads are clean and undamaged. 4.2 Cable glands SensyTemp TSC420 temperature sensors are supplied with a M16 x 1.5 cable gland. Approved cable glands are used as appropriate for temperature sensors with Ex certification. If used correctly, these cable glands can help achieve a degree of protection of at least IP 54 for TSC420. Alternatively, the temperature sensors are available without a cable gland, but with a M16 x 1.5 thread. In this case, the user must take appropriate measures to ensure that the required degree of protection is achieved. With this option it is also necessary to ensure that the measures taken satisfy the relevant requirements and standards concerning explosion protection (e.g., EN 50018) as well as the approvals for the relevant temperature sensors (e.g., PTB 01 ATEX 2200 X for Ex ia). In practice, you may find the specified degree of protection can no longer be achieved if certain cables and lines are used in conjunction with the cable gland. Deviations from the test conditions as set out in the IEC standard must be checked. Check the cables' concentricity, transposition, external hardness, sheath, and surface roughness Preconditions for protection class IP 54 Only use cable glands in the specified clamping area. When using very soft cable types do not use them in the low clamping area. Only use round cables or cables with a slightly ovalshaped cross section. Frequent opening / closing is possible but may have a negative effect on the degree of protection. If cables are demonstrating pronounced cold flow behavior, the cable glands will need to be retightened. Cables with VA wire mesh require special cable glands. 4.3 Installation instructions The usual way of ensuring that thermal measurements are accurate is to comply with the minimum installation length of the thermometer. Ideally, the sensor on a thermometer should be located in the center of the pipe. Fig Insufficient nominal diameter In the case of pipelines with very small nominal diameters, installation inside an elbow pipe is recommended. The tip of the MI-Cable is set in opposition to the flow direction of the measuring medium. Installing the thermometer with an adapter at an angle of < 45 against the flow direction can also distort measurement results. Fig. 4 SensyTemp TSC400 OI/TSC400-EN 9
4.5 Installation in potentially explosive atmospheres Avoid increases in the ambient temperature by ensuring equipment is at a sufficient distance from system components with excessively high temperatures. It should be ensured that heat dissipation can take place by means of unrestricted air circulation.. You must avoid exceeding the maximum permissible ambient temperature as per the approved temperature class. Installation and removal may only be performed by specialist personnel who have knowledge of the concept behind the relevant Ex types of protection. Compliance with the Ex temperature classes must be ensured by putting appropriate measures in place. It is essential to ensure compliance with the EC-typeexamination certificates for the equipment, including the documents associated with these. The temperature sensors must be included in the equipotential bonding. 10 OI/TSC400-EN SensyTemp TSC400
Change from two to one column 5 Electrical connections 5.1 General remarks The following applies to devices with a transmitter: The power supply and signal are routed in the same line and must be implemented as a Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) or Protective Extra Low Voltage (PELV) circuit in accordance with IEC The cable wires must be provided with end sleeves. The user is responsible for ensuring EMC-compliant cabling. Transmitter (intrinsically safe equipment) Supply isolator/plc input (related equipment) U i U o I i I o P i P o L i + L c (cable) L o C i + C c (cable) C o Field (Ex area) Control room (safe area) 5.2 Electrical interconnection in potentially explosive atmospheres Depending on the safety requirements, special interconnections are required for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Intrinsic safety The supply isolators/plc inputs must feature special intrinsically safe input protection circuits in order to eliminate hazards (spark formation). The interconnection must be inspected. For proof of the intrinsic safety, the electrical limit values are to be used as the basis for the examination certificates of the apparatuses (devices), including capacitance and inductivity values of the wires. Proof of intrinsic safety is said to have been provided if the following conditions are fulfilled when a comparison is carried out in relation to the limit values of the equipment: Fig. 5 A transmitter B supply isolator / PLC input with supply IMPORTANT (NOTE) Observe the Specifications and Ex relevant specifications chapters. 13 7 Ex relevant specifications 7.1 Approvals The TSC400 temperature sensors are equipped with the following approvals. ATEX approvals are valid throughout the EU and in Switzerland. ATEX II 1G Ex ia IIC PTB 01 ATEX 2200 X ATEX II 2G Ex ib IIC PTB 01 ATEX 2200 X ATEX n Manufacturer declaration IECEx Ex ia IIC T6 Ga IECEx PTB X IMPORTANT (NOTE) Thermometers with MI-Cable meeting the requirements of both type examination certificate for ATEX "Ex i" and Namur specification NE24 can be supplied on request. 7.2 Intrinsic safety ATEX Ex i All of the values listed below are valid assuming that an additional transmitter has been connected Electrical power limit The following electrical values must not be exceeded: U i (input voltage) I i (input current) 30 V 101 ma 25 V 158 ma 20 V 309 ma P i (internal power) corresponds to P o (output power) of a transmitter. L i (internal inductance) = 15 μh/m C i (internal capacitance) = 280 pf/m Thermal resistance The following table lists thermal resistances for MI-Cables of 3.0 mm, 4.5 mm, and 6.0 mm in diameter. The values are specified under "gas with a flow velocity of 0 m/s" conditions. Thermal resistance R th MI-Cable Ø 3.0 mm MI-Cable Ø 4.5 mm MI-Cable Ø 6.0 mm t = 200 K/W x W = 7.6 K Resistance thermometer 200 K/W 200 K/W 84 K/W Thermocouple 30 K/W 30 K/W 30 K/W K/W = kelvin per watt Output power Transmitter model TTR200 HART TTF300/350 HART TTF300/350 FOUNDATION fieldbus / PROFIBUS PA Output power P o 38 mw 38 mw FISCO Field Device The EC type examination certificates for the corresponding transmitter types contain all further information necessary to verify intrinsic safety (U o, I o, P o, L o, C o, etc.) Temperature rise in the event of a fault In the event of a fault, the thermometers will exhibit a temperature rise Δt as appropriate for the applied power. This temperature rise must be taken into account in the difference between the process temperature and the temperature class. IMPORTANT (NOTE) Temperature sensors for use in Zone 0 must only contain an intrinsically safe circuit and must only be connected to certified intrinsically safe circuits with type of protection "ia". The temperature rise Δt can be calculated using the following formula: Δt = R th P o [K/W x W] Δt = Temperature rise R th = Thermal resistance P o = Output power of an additional connected transmitter SensyTemp TSC400 OI/TSC400-EN 13
Change from one to two columns Example Resistance thermometer 3 mm in diameter, no thermowell: R th = 200 K/W Temperature transmitter P o = 38 mw Δt = 200 K/W x W = 7.6 K Therefore, at a temperature transmitter output power P 0 = 38 mw, the maximum temperature rise in the event of a fault is approximately 8 K. This results in the following maximum process temperatures T medium : Change from two to one column Maximum process temperature T medium in Zone 0 The surface temperature of Category 1 devices must not exceed 80 % of the ignition temperature of a flammable gas or liquid. 80 % of the ignition temperature T6 (85 C) T5 (100 C) T4 (135 C) T3 (200 C) T2 (300 C) T1 (450 C) 68 C 80 C 108 C 160 C 240 C 360 C T medium 60 C 72 C 100 C 152 C 232 C 352 C Possible process temperature T medium in Zone 1 To calculate the temperature classes for T6, T5, T4, and T3 deduct 5 K each; for T2 and T1, deduct 10 K each. 15 8 Technical Data 8.1 Resistance thermometer The use of an MI-Cable and special sensors, including their installation, ensures that the vibration resistance of all SenyTemp TSC400 industrial thermometers is very high. The peak-to-peak acceleration values of 30 m/sec 2 (3 g) for frequencies between 10 and 500 Hz (predefined in standard IEC for increased requirements) are exceeded by all industrial thermometers. The ideal combination of measuring range, diameter, accuracy, and vibration resistance can be derived from the following tables Designs Basic design Thin film resistor (TF) Measuring range Class B C Class A C Class AA C Vibration resistance 100 m/sec 2 (10 g) at 10 to 500 Hz Single sensor Double sensor 2-W 3-W 4-W 2-W 3-W 4-W 3.0 mm, class B 3.0 mm, class A 4.5 mm, class B 4.5 mm, class A 6.0 mm, class B 6.0 mm, class A 6.0 mm, class AA Increased vibration resistance Thin film resistor (TF) Measuring range Class B C Class A C Vibration resistance 600 m/sec 2 (60 g) at 10 to 500 Hz Single sensor Double sensor 2-W 3-W 4-W 2-W 3-W 4-W 3.0 mm, class B 3.0 mm, class A 4.5 mm, class B 4.5 mm, class A 6.0 mm, class B 6.0 mm, class A Extended range, increased vibration resistance Wire wound resistor (WW) Measuring range Class B C Class A, single DMW C Class A, double DMW C Vibration resistance 100 m/sec 2 (10 g) at 10 to 500 Hz Single sensor Double sensor 2-W 3-W 4-W 2-W 3-W 4-W 3.0 mm, class B 3.0 mm, class A 6.0 mm, class B 6.0 mm, class A SensyTemp TSC400 OI/TSC400-EN 15
8.1.2 Accuracy classes of measurement resistors according to IEC Both thin film resistors and wire wound resistors according to IEC can be used across the entire range (even with increased accuracy class AA or class A). Subsequently, only the accuracy class of the temperature range used can remain valid. Example: A class AA sensor is used at 290 C. After this albeit brief application, class A applies for this sensor Measuring errors with two-wire circuits The electrical resistance of the copper inner conductor for the measuring inset affects the measured value of two-wire circuits and must be taken into consideration. It is determined by the diameter and length of the industrial thermometer. If the error cannot be compensated mechanically, the following values apply: Ø measuring inset 3.0 mm: (0,281 Ω/m 0.7 C/m) Ø measuring inset 6.0 mm: (0,1 Ω/m 0,25 C/m) Thin film resistor (TF), inserted Class B Δt = ± ( [t]) C Class A Δt = ± ( [t]) C Class AA Δt = ± ( [t]) C Wire wound resistor (WW), installed Class B Δt = ± ( [t]) C Class A Δt = ± ( [t]) C It is for this reason that ABB supplies three-wire / four-wire circuit thermometers as standard Length data for the thermometer tip The minimum insertion depth, the temperature-sensitive length and the non-bendable section at the tip of the temperature sensor can be derived from the following table. Design Minimum insertion Temperaturesensitive Non-bendable length depth length Basic design 70 mm 7 mm 30 mm Increased vibration 70 mm 10 mm 40 mm resistance Extended measuring range, increased vibration resistance 70 mm 50 mm 60 mm 8.2 Thermocouples The measuring accuracy of standard thermocouples are in accordance with the international standard IEC On request, ABB can also supply thermocouples according to ANSI MC96.1. Since the values of both standards differ only very slightly at low temperatures (up to approx. 300 C), ABB recommends using thermocouples according to IEC Tolerance data is listed in the "Accuracy classes according to IEC 60584" table.
