3 GENERAL PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE 1.02 CODE A. This specification covers the design, arrangement and selection of electrical materials and equipment and their incorporation in the construction of power, control, lighting, instrumentation, grounding, and related installations of electrical systems in gas processing plants, compressor stations, pipeline pump stations, and similar installations. B. Where practical, electrical equipment shall be located in unclassified areas. No electrical equipment shall be installed or used in a classified area unless its use therein is essential to plant operations. Electrical equipment must be approved or listed for use in the area classification in which it is used and for the group of the combustible gases that may be present. C. Unless formally approved otherwise by Targa, electrical equipment is to be tested in accordance with the recommendations of the National Electrical Testing Association (NETA). Alternate testing methods must be submitted in writing. A. The design and installation of electrical facilities shall be performed in accordance with this specification and in compliance with applicable codes and standards including, but not limited to, the Occupational Safety & Health Standards (OSHA), the National Electrical Code (NEC), the American Petroleum Institute (API), and the codes of concerned cities, states, and other regulatory bodies having jurisdiction INDUSTRY STANDARDS A. Standard catalog items shall be given preference. B. National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA) standard sizes and ratings shall be given preference. C. Material and equipment labeled or listed by the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) or Factory Mutual (FM) are required for classified areas and should be given preference in nonclassified areas. D. Equipment offered by manufacturers as meeting their interpretation of UL or FM requirements, but not tested by UL or FM, will be acceptable if approved by Targa and if acceptable to OSHA and to the local code enforcing authority. PART 2 ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AND DESIGN REPORTS A. Drawings shall be prepared according to Targa.'s Drafting Specifications to show in detail the information required to install and maintain the electrical system. B. Drawing List 1. Facility layout showing classification of areas. 2. One-line diagram of the power system. 3. Schematic diagrams of control, alarm, and shutdown circuitry. 4.
