Specifications Maximum length of the probe cable is determined by the resistance (max. 75 Ohm) and other electrical parameters (Co, Lo and Lo/Ro) of the probe circuit. Table 3: Example: Determing the maximum cable length Parameter Condition Influence of resistance Value Instrument cable with following characteristics is used: DC resistance of a twin wire at +20 C is approx. 81 Ohm/km Inductance is approx. 3 µh/m Capacitance is approx. 70 nf/km Estimate for additional resistances in the circuit is 10 Ohm. The maximum length of the cable is then ( 75 10) Ohm = 800 m. 81 Ohm / km Influence of inductance Influence of capacitance Total inductance is 0,8 km x 3 µh/m = 2,4 mh. The sum value of the cable and e.g. WGA-AS probe [Li = 30 µh] is 2.43 mh. L/R ratio is 2,4 mh = 37 µh/ohm (75 10) Ohm which is less than the maximum allowed value 116,5 µh/ohm. Die Kapazität des Kabels beträgt 0,8 km x 70 nf/km = 56 nf. Die Summe der Werte für das Kabel und z. B. eine Sonde WGA-AS [Ci = 3 nf] beträgt 59 nf. Cable capacitance is 0,8 km x 70 nf/km = 56 nf. Combined value of the cable and the e.g. WGA-AS probe [Ci = 3 nf] is 59 nf. When compared to the values in table 2, we can summarize that above values do not limit the use of this particular 800 m cable in explosion groups IIB or IIC. Feasibility of other cable types and probes for different distances can be calculated accordingly. WGA 06 9

CAUTION Damage to the device due to improper storage. Protect the device against shock when storing it. Store device in a clean and dry environment. 6 Mounting and commissioning The evaluation unit must not be installed in hazardous area. Probes connected to the evaluation unit may be installed in explosive atmosphere zone 0,1 or 2. In case of installations in explosive atmospheres the national requirements and relevant standards as EN and EN must be taken into account. If electrostatic discharges can cause hazards in the operating environment, the device must be connected into equipotential ground according to requirements with regards to explosive atmospheres. Equipotential grounding is made by connecting all conductive parts into same potential e.g. at the cable junction box. Equipotential ground must be earthed. The device does not include a mains switch. A two pole mains switch (AC 250 V, 1 A), which isolates both lines (L1, N) must be installed in the main power supply lines in the vicinity of the unit. This switch 12 WGA 06
Mounting and commissioning facilitates maintenance and service operations and it has to be marked to identify the unit. When executing service, inspection and repair in explosive atmosphere, the rules in standards EN and EN about instructions of Ex-devices must be obeyed. 6.1 Mounting the evaluation unit Mount the evaluation unit to the wall. The mounting holes are located in the base plate of the enclosure, beneath the mounting holes of the front cover. The connectors of the external conductors are isolated by separating plates. The plates must not be removed. Install the plate covering the connectors back after executing cable connections. The cover of the enclosure must be tightened so, that the edges touch the base frame. Only then do the push buttons function properly and the enclosure is tight. 6.2 Mounting the probes Probe WGA-AS (overflow alarm) In case of installations in explosive atmospheres the national requirements and relevant standards EN and EN must be taken into account. The probe shall not be installed into a space where caustic vapour, gas or liquid, such as aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons or strong alkalis or acids, can damage the equipment. WGA-AS is equipped with a shielded 3-wire cable. The wires 1 and 2 shall be connected to the corresponding connectors (1 = +, 2 = ) in the evaluation unit. Wire 3 shall be connected to equipotential ground together with the shield of the cable. Install the WGA-AS probe according to fig. 7, page 14. WGA-AS causes an alarm, when the probe is immersed ¼ to ¾ in oil or when the probe is 5 to 10 mm in water. The trigger level can be adjusted by SENSITIVITY within the evaluation unit (refer to chapter 7.3, page 20). The probe can be mounted loose-hanging at the cabel from the top side of the oil separator. For the proper installation hight also refer to the operations instructions of the separator. WGA 06 13

Mounting and commissioning Probe WGA-ÖW (oil-on-water-alarm) The probe shall not be installed into a space where caustic vapour, gas or liquid, such as aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons or strong alkalis or acids, can damage the equipment. Install the WGA-ÖW probe according to fig. 8. Fig. 8: Connection for WGA-ÖW probe a Evaluation unit d Equipotential ground b Junction box e Extension cable shield c Probe cable shield Relays are in alarm position, when the mains voltage ist off. Connect all shields and excess wires to the same point. WGA-ÖW is equipped with a shielded 3-wire cable. The wires 1 and 2 shall be connected to the corresponding connectors (1 = +, 2 = -) in the control unit. Wire 3 shall be connected to equipotential ground together with the shield of the cable. Ground connector of the float frame shall be connected to equipotential ground. The cable can be shortened or, when the evaluation unit is located further away from the probe, the cable can be extended with the junction box, which is included in the delivery. The probe floats freely on the liquid. Therefore, please use long enough a cable to avoid hanging in the air in critical situations (e.g. when the liquid level decreases). When installing WGA-ÖW probe into an explosion hazardous zone (0/1/2), the following standards need to be followed: EN and EN WGA 06
Operation 7 Operation 6.3 Mounting the junction box If the probe cable must be extended or there is need for equipotential grounding, it can be done with the cable junction box. The cabling between the WGA 06 control unit and the junction box should be done with a shielded twisted pair instrument cable. In fig. 7, page 14, the shields and excess wires have been connected to the same point in galvanic contact with metallic frame of the junction box. This point can be connected to equipotential ground thru the ground terminal. Other components of the system that need to be grounded can also be connected to the same ground terminal. LJB2 junction box enables cable extension in potentially explosive atmospheres. The wire used for equipotential grounding must be min. 2.5 mm² mechanically protected or, when not protected, the minimum cross section is 4 mm². 7.1 Factory settings Make sure, that the cable between the evaluation unit and the probe does not exceed maximum connection values (refer to chapter 4, page 7). Junction box of type LJB2 include light alloy parts. When installing in explosive atmosphere, make sure, that the junction box is located so, that it can not be mechanically damaged or it will not be exposed to external impacts, friction etc. causing ignition of sparks. Make sure, that the junction box is closed properly. Normal mode no alarms Mains LED indicator is on. Other LED indicators are off. Relays 1 and 2 are energized. Oil-on-water alarm/overflow alarm Mains LED indicator is on. Alarm LED indicator is on. Buzzer on after 5 s delay. Relays de-energize after 5 s delay. WGA 06 17
Operation 7.2 Test Fault alarm Probe cable break, short circuit or a broken probe. Too low or too high probe signal current. Mains LED indicator is on. Probe cable Fault LED indicator is on after 5 s delay. The relays de-energize after 5 s delay. Buzzer is on after 5 s delay. Resetting of an alarm Pressing the Reset push button. Buzzer will go off. Relay 1 energizes. Relay 2 will stay de-energized until the actual alarm or fault is off. If the operation is not as described here, check the factory settings (refer to chapter 7.3, page 19) or contact the manufacturer. Before pressing the Test button, make sure that the change of relay status does not cause hazards elsewhere. Simulating an oil-on-water alarm (WGA-ÖW probe) Lift up the WGA-ÖW probe totally in the air. An alarm occurs. Simulating an overflow alarm (WGA-AS probe) Lift and immerse the WGA-AS probe few times into the liquid. An alarm occurs. Testing at normal mode 1. Press and hold the Test push button. Alarm and Fault LED indicators are immediately on. Buzzer is immediately on. Relays de-energize after 2 sec of continuous pressing. 2. Release the Test push button. LED indicators and buzzer go immediately off. Relays energize immediately. 18 WGA 06
Operation Testing during a oil-on-wat alarm or overflow alarm 1. Press and hold the Test push button. Fault LED indicator is immediately on. Alarm LED indicator of the channel which activated the alarm remains on. The corresponding relay will remain de-energized. Alarm LED of the other channel is on and the relay will deenergize. Buzzer remains on. If it has been reset earlier, it will return to be on. If relay 1 was already reset, it will de-energize again after 2 s. Test will not affect relay 2, because it is already in alarm status. 2. Release the Test push button. The device returns without delay to the preceding status. Testing during a fault alarm Press the Test push button. The device does not react to the test at all. WGA 06 19
Operation 7.3 Altering the factory settings If the factory settings described in chapter 7.1, page 17, differ from the specifications, check if the settings match with the specifications in fig. 9. If necessary the factory settings can be altered. The following settings can be altered. Operating direction: High level or low level function (increasing or decreasing level). Operation delay: 5 or 30 seconds Trigger level: Trigger point of an alarm in the probe s sensing element. Fig. 9: Altering the factory settings 1 The settings of channel 1 3 Serial number are made with switches S1 4 Probe selection (channel 1) and S2 and potentiometer in the left 5 WGA-AS/WGA-ÖW probe 2 Type plate In fig. 9, the switches are as set in the factory. The following tasks must only be executed by a person with proper education and knowledge of Ex-i devices. We recommend, that when altering the settings the mains voltage is off or the device is initialized before the installation is executed. 20 WGA 06
Operation Operating directions (MODE) Switch S1 is used to set the operating direction. When the switch is in its low position, Alarm LED indicator as well as buzzer is on and relays de-energize when the liquid level is beneath the trigger level of the probe (low level mode, probe WGA-AS).This setting is also used, when an alarm of an oil-layer on water is required. When the switch is in its high position the Alarm LED indicator as well as buzzer will be on and relays de-energize when the liquid level is above the probe s trigger level (high level mode, probe WGA-AS). 1 Alarm when level below trigger level 2 Alarm when level above trigger level 3 Trigger level Fig. 10: Operating directions Setting the operational delay (DELAY) Switch S2 is used to set the operational delay of the device. When the switch is in low position relays operate and buzzer is on after 5 seconds after the level reaches trigger level, if the level still remains on the same side of the trigger level.when the switch is in high position, the delay is 30 seconds. Delays are operational in both directions (energizing, de-energizing). 1 Verzögerung 5 Sekunden 2 Verzögerung 30 Sekunden Fig. 11: Funktionsverzögerung einstellen Alarm LED follows the probe current value and trigger level without delay. Fault LED has a fixed delay of 5 seconds. WGA 06 21
Operation Setting the trigger level (SENSITIVITY) 1 WGA-AS/WGA-ÖW capacitance probe 2 When rotating the trimmer clockwise the trigger level moves upwards 3 When rotating the trimmer anti-clockwise the trigger level moves downwards Fig. 12: Setting the trigger level Adjusting the switching point for WGA-AS probe: 1. Immerse the probe into the liquid on the designated hight. 2. Rotate the potentiometer until the alarm LED will go on and the relay de-energizes. Consider the delay. 3. Check the function by lifting and immersing the probe few times into the liquid. Adjusting the switching point for WGA-ÖW probe: 1. Let the probe float freely on the water. 2. Lift up the probe as much as there is assumed to be oil or hydrocarbon layered on the water in alarm situation (the layer that should generate an alarm). 3. If the evaluation unit does not operate, adjust the SENSE trimmer slowly until the desired switching point is reached. The sensitivity can also be decreased by adjusting the position of the sensor lower in the floating construction. Too sensitive settings cause unnecessary alarms if there are waves in the liquid. 22 WGA 06
