2 Introduction Installing the Device Handler Until the Device Handler is officially published by SmartThings, users must use their own Device Handlers for full functionality within SmartThings. See below for instructions: 1. Log into the Smarthings developer portal ( If you do not have an account, register by following the link on the page. 2. Click My Device Handlers in the navigation bar (fig. 1). Figure 1 3. Press Create New Device Handler (fig. 2). 4. Click the From Code tab (fig. 3). 5. Open a new tab, visit githubusercontent.com/krlaframboise/smartthings/master/ devicetypes/krlaframboise/dome-leak-sensor.src/dome-leaksensor.groovy and copy ALL of the text. Figure 2 6. Paste the copied code into the text box, and click Create (fig. 3). 7. Now click Save (fig.4). 8. Finally publish it for yourself (fig. 5). 9. Now add the Leak Sensor to your SmartThings system. Visit com/ for further installation and set-up instructions. Note: You should only add the Leak Sensor to SmartThings AFTER the Device Handler is created. If you already added the device, remove it and add it again into your system, and the Leak Sensor will automatically detect the Device Handler. Figure 3 Figure Congrats, that s it! 3 The Interface Main Page The Main Page of the Device Handler displays the current status of the Leak Sensor (Wet and Dry) and also the battery level. See below for an overview of the interface: 1. Main Status This section displays the status of the Leak Sensor: Wet and Dry. The status is displayed with both text and the background color. 2. Refresh This button refreshes the page so all of the settings and statuses are accurate and current. 3. Battery Level This displays the remaining battery life. } 1 } } 2 3 Main Page Page 3

4 1. Enable/Disable Audible Alarm This enables or disables the beeping that sounds when water is detected. 2. Initial Alarm Duration When water is detected, the audible alarm sounds for this amount of time before pausing (default 1 min.) 3. Reminder Alarm Duration After the Initial Alarm, the Leak Sensor will beep intermittently for this amount of time (default 5 sec.) 4. Reminder Interval This sets how often the Reminder Alarm is sounded (default 1 min.) 5. Total Alarm Duration This sets the total Alarm duration (default 2 hours.) 6. Wake Up Interval This sets how often the Leak Sensor reports to SmartThings to accept settings, etc. 7. Battery Report Interval This sets how often the battery level is reported to SmartThings The Interface Settings Page The settings page allows the user to change several properties of the Leak Sensor, including LED functionality, wake up interval, and the battery reporting interval. To access the settings page, simply press the Gear icon on the top right corner in the main device page. Settings Page Page 4

5 Automation & Security Get a Notification When A Leak is Detected SmartThings can notify you (with a text message, push notification, or other method) when the Leak Sensor detects water. Follow the steps below to be notified when the Leak Sensor is tripped: 1. Open the SmartThings app and go to the Dashboard tab (fig. 1). 2. Press the Gear icon in the top right corner and tap Leaks in the list that appears (fig. 2). 3. Toggle off Use every Leak detector (fig. 3) to monitor specific Leak Sensors (otherwise every Leak Sensor will trigger the notification.) 4. Tap Water sensors and choose which sensors you want to monitor (fig. 4). Figure 1 Figure 2 5. Here you can also choose the types of notifications you will receive. 6 1. Open the SmartThings app and go to the Dashboard tab (fig. 1). 2. Press the Gear icon in the top right corner and tap Leak in the list that appears (fig. 2). Automation & Security Shut Off Your Water Main When Leaks are Detected! If you have a controllable water valve (like Dome s Water Main Shut-Off,) SmartThings can shut-off your water automatically when leaks are detected. Follow the steps below to automatically close the valve when SmartThings detects such a leak: 3. Toggle off Use every Leak detector (fig. 3) to choose specific Leak Detectors that will shut off the water (or every detector will do so.) Figure 1 Figure 2 4. Tap Water sensors,choose which sensors you want to monitor (fig. 4), and tap Done. 5. Scroll down and tap Close Valves (fig. 5). 6. Tap Select Valves, then choose your Water Main Shut-Off (fig. 6). 7. To finish, tap Done on all the following screens until you return to the home screen.
