5 1.0 Scope of document This document details the user information and installation methods for the Protec ProPointPlus Aspirating Smoke Detector with specific attention to the installation, commissioning and servicing of the product. 2.0 Applicable Standard and Directive Information The ProPointPlus is designed to meet and exceed the requirements of the British (BS) & European (EN) Standard for Aspirating smoke detectors within the following relevant directives. Standard Name ( full details ) Fire Detection and fire alarm systems. Part 20: Aspirating smoke detector. Protec 6000 series digital addressable protocol. Simple sensitivity configuration setup: Class A, Class B, Class C and Prison. 3 Programmable input contacts. Airflow monitoring per pipe channel. Variable blower speed control. Integral OLED display for fault reporting and ease of setup. Commissioning menu access code protected. On-board loop isolator. Support multiple language menu functions. 6 4.0 Installation 4.1 Removing the Front Cover To remove the front cover unscrew the top and bottom screws using a Pozi-driver. Use a small flat driver to push in the top / bottom clips and pull front cover away in a continuous action. 4.2 Accessing the Terminal Connections The display moulding is hinged, unscrew the two captive screws to open the hinged door. Behind the display moulding are the terminal connections. Remove any knock-outs required to suit the necessary installation connections. N Issue 5 Page 6 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

7 4.3 Fixing the Unit to the Wall Utilise the three fixing points to secure the unit to a stable base. Solid non-hollow walls are better suited to provide strength and low reverberation. The default code is The access code can be changed from the commissioning menu. The commissioning menu can be accessed from the status screen irrespective of the unit status; Detector Normal, Fault or Alarm. By pressing any button, the screen will display Enter Code with the first digit flashing. 9 5.3 Faults The ProPointPlus monitors various aspects of the unit to ensure the unit is fully operational. During faults the fault LED will illuminate and the buzzer will sound a slow pulse tone. Listed below are the diagnosed faults indicated on the unit. Table 2 System Faults Fault Description Action Device Missing Device Added Airflow Fault Supply Fault A communication problem to a device within the unit has been detected or a device has been removed from the unit. A new device has been added to the unit but the device has not been commissioned. The airflow measurement has moved outside the acceptable tolerance range either by an increase or decrease in normalised airflow. The supply fault monitoring input is reading low. Typically connected to the external power supply charger unit. The optical value has increased outside the normal operation range. The optical value has decreased outside the normal operation range. Check the device in fault is fitted correctly. Return SCD to Protec or a Protec distributor. Re-commission unit Check sampling pipe installation is correct as per commissioning, ensure no pipes are blocked. If fault persists contact a Protec operative or a Protec distributor. It may be necessary to look at the power supply charger unit to determine the cause of the fault. Return SCD to Protec or a Protec High Optical Background distributor. Low Return SCD to Protec or a Protec Background distributor. Link Fault The data (RS485) path has failed. Check ribbon cable connections. Output The inputs check to test option is active, activated Open PC software turn OFF Override using the ProView.exe PC software. check to test. Corrupt Internal settings are outside the expected values. Return to Protec or a Protec Settings Unit will default to factory settings. distributor. Low Supply The supply voltage to the unit is below the operating value (<19V DC ). Check input voltage supply. Corrupt File Web server file is corrupt. Return to Protec or a Protec distributor. Calibration Return SCD to Protec or a Protec The SCD calibration offset value is out of limits. Fault distributor. LED Fault The SCD optical LED is damaged. Return SCD to Protec or a Protec distributor. Airflow Ignored A pipe airflow is set to be ignored, activated using the ProView.exe PC software. Open PC software turn OFF airflow pipe ignore. CO Cell Fault The SCD Carbon Monoxide (CO) cell has expired its life capacity or is missing. Request replacement SCD. Fan Fault The fan is damage or under/over performing. Check fan connection. If used check external input Isolated Fault Either the SCD(s) have been individually disabled or isolation equipment. Otherwise the isolate input is active. return to Protec or a Protec distributor. Heat Fault Incomplete Manufacture Fault (85) The heat thermistor reading is out of range. The manufacturing details have not been stored in the unit. An incorrect SCD device fitted in the unit. 10 5.4 Events The ProPointPlus stores operational events within the internal memory event log. The event log is displayed on the web server and accessed using the PC commissioning software: ProView.exe. The following events are logged: Table 3 System Events Event Description Processor Fault The internal processor hardware has un-expectedly reset. Power Up The unit has powered up, occurring on first power, unstable supply voltage or after an undesired reset. Fire Level The fire level has increased above the stable background threshold. Time Set The internal system time has been set. Faults Cleared All system faults have been cleared, system returned to normal status. Event Log Cleared The event log has been manually cleared via the web server Historic Graph Cleared The historic graph has been manually cleared via the web server Supply Brownout The operating supply voltage has reduced to < 18V DC for > 2 seconds. Device Reset An SCD has been reset. Fire Reset A fire condition has been manually reset. Data range check The optical, CO or heat value is corrupt. 11 5.5 Input and Outputs Inputs Supply Fault Monitor FLT [Active low]. Intended use with local Protec power supply unit with external clean contact output. Activated upon a PSU fault and/or mains failure. Protec Loop Protocol Algorithm, refer to section 9.0 Technical Specifications. The ProPointPlus consists of 3 configurable active inputs. The inputs can be configured to activate the following functions / events on receipt of an input signal. The operation of the outputs can be user configured to change state upon the following functions. Also each output can be configured to delay its activation. 12 6.0 Commissioning the ProPointPlus using the unit display Once the engineer access code has been correctly entered the user can begin to commission the ProPointPlus detector. NOTE: The example display screens are shown with 4 pipe channels. NOTE: Ensure all pipe configurations have been installed before supplying power to the ProPoint PLUS unit. 6.1 Software Version The ProPointPlus displays the current installed firmware versions by selecting About in the menu options. To access About press enter while the unit displays About. Press escape or enter to exit. Buzzer About Mute ProPointPLUS Display : Detector : Internal Buzzer and Mute The ProPointPlus is fitted with an internal buzzer. The buzzer will sound distinctive pulse tones when the unit is in Fault, Pre-alarm or Fire, below lists the pulse rate for events. Press enter while the unit displays Buzzer. Toggle between On or Off using the buttons and press enter to select. Language Buzzer About Buzzer On To mute the buzzer: at the home screen, press any key and enter the engineer access level code. The Mute option appears in the menu only when the buzzer is active. To mute the buzzer press enter while the unit displays Mute. 6.3 Reset an Alarm Hardware Configuration Mute Reset The ProPointPlus detector allows the user to reset an alarm from the engineer commissioning menu. The Reset option appears only during an alarm condition. To reset press enter while the unit displays Reset. Reset Mute Change code N Issue 5 Page 12 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

13 6.4 Changing the Unit Access Code The engineer access code to the commissioning menu can be changed to any 6 digit number. To change the code select the Change code option from the menu and press enter. Hardware Configuration Change Code Blower Speed Change code Use the up and down buttons to change the number [0-9], press enter to progress to the next digit. The new code will automatically be changed upon pressing enter on the sixth digit. 6.5 Adjusting the Blower Speed The ProPointPlus detector has an adjustable speed blower. The blower speed should be commissioned depending on the calculated transport times. To change the blower speed, select the Blower speed option from the menu and press enter. Change code Blower speed Airflow Set blower speed 50% Use the up and down buttons to adjust the blower speed to the desired airflow rate. Press ESC to return to the main menu. NOTE: increasing the blower speed will increase the average current by approx. 5-10mA per 10% increment. 6.6 Accepting the Airflow The ProPointPlus detector monitors the airflow through each pipe channel; an increase or decrease from the nominal accepted value produces an airflow fault. To set the nominal value the airflow has to be calibrated to zero by means of acceptance. To zero the airflow ensure all pipe configurations have been installed and the blower speed is set to the required airflow rate corresponding with the calculated transport time. Upon setting the blower speed, the engineer should wait approximately 5 minutes to allow the airflow to stabilise prior to airflow acceptance, this is not software regulated. Good working practise advises against early acceptance to prevent multiple airflow faults. The airflow is accepted by entering the airflow menu and selecting the button. Blower speed Airflow Analogue values 1 3 Zero airflow 2 4 Each pipe has an airflow indicator bar which displays a normalised view of the airflow at the stabilised configuration level. A centralised vertical line across each bar represents the accepted airflow reading. The indicator will fluctuate to indicate a decrease (left) and increase (right) in airflow. When the airflow is zeroed the line is automatically positioned in the middle of each bar; zeroing to the nominal value. A fault condition occurs if the airflow reading differs by more than the accepted nominal value (default 20%). The airflow tolerance is configurable within the webserver via ProView.exe. The monitoring tolerance range is from 5% to 50%. To ensure compliance with EN54 Part 20: unit tolerance to be set to <20%. Pressing ESC will return to the main menu. 14 6.7 Viewing the Analogue Values To ease commissioning the ProPointPlus detector is capable of displaying the current live analogue data values from the Optical (OP) and the Carbon monoxide (CO) monitoring circuits per pipe channel. The CO monitoring is dependent on the user requirements as an advance option. To view the data values select the Analogue values option from the menu and press enter. Airflow Analogue values Sensitivity Analogue values OP CO Pressing ESC will return to the main menu. 6.8 Changing the Sensitivity Mode The ProPointPlus detector is capable of selecting a mode of characterised sensitivity algorithms to suit the installation and application. The sensitivity level is individual to each pipe channel. To change the sensitivity select the Sensitivity option from the menu and press enter. Sensitivity Levels are denoted by Class A, B, C and Prison. The number after the class letter refers to the zone area coverage. Pressing ESC will return to the main menu. Refer to section 9.0 Technical Specifications. 6.9 Disabling Pipe Channels The ProPointPlus detector is capable of disabling the monitoring of each individual pipe to isolate the device in an alarm. To change device disablements select the Disablements from the menu and press enter. Sensitivity Disablements Loop Disablements On On On Off Use the up and down buttons to toggle between: On = enabled / OFF = disabled, press enter to confirm and move to the next pipe. 15 6.10 Viewing Loop Information The ProPointPlus detector is programmed at manufacture with a unique Protec loop serial number. The display shows the serial number of pipe 1 and the address of the pipes on the loop. To view the loop information select the Loop from the menu and press enter. Disablements Loop Temperature Serial Number Pressing ESC will return to the main menu Viewing the Pipe Air Temperature The ProPointPlus detector reads the air temperature in degrees Celsius ( C) through each pipe channel. To view the temperature select the Temperature from the menu and press enter. Loop Temperature Language Temperature Pressing ESC will return to the main menu Changing the Language The ProPointPlus detector is capable of displaying the text strings in a variant of languages. To change the current language select the Language from the menu and press enter. Temperature Language Buzzer Language English Use the up and down buttons to scroll between the different languages, press enter to confirm the language and return to the main menu. Current languages: English Dutch [Netherlands] Spanish [Castellano] Polish 6.13 Hardware Configuration The ProPointPlus detector can be configured to a 1, 2, 3 or 4 pipe unit. Any change to the number of pipes therefore either additional or remove of SCD devices requires a re-commission of the unit. The unit must first be powered down and physically configured to the required state of operation, re-supply the power and ignore any faults that may occur prior to saving the hardware configuration. About Hardware Configuration Change Code 1 : V : V1.004 Hardware Configuration 3 : V : V1.004 Select the hardware configuration menu, the unit will read and display the current versions of the SCD devices. 16 7.0 Commissioning the ProPointPlus using the PC software The following section details the instructions for using the ProView.exe commissioning PC software with the ProPointPlus. Although most options are commissionable via the display menu, the PC software offers extras features. Such as viewing event and historical data logs, programmable inputs and output functions and networking address. 7.1 PC / Laptop requirements The PC used to connect to the ProView.exe must conform to the following minimum specification. ProView.exe Remove the front cover and unscrew the two captive screws as shown in section Adding or removing SCD(s) If required at this stage power down the ProPointPlus unit, lift the front display cassette to access the 4 SCD(s), add or remove the desired SCDs. If adding remove the blanking plugs on both the pipe connection port and the internal blower manifold before slotting the SCD into position. Ensure the SCD is securely positioned in the socket using the top and bottom clips to restraint. When removing any SCDs ensure the inlet blanking plug is fitted in the empty inlet spaces for both the pipe port and blower manifold. 7.3 Connecting to the PC / laptop Power on the unit, connect the USB type A to type B cable from the PC USB port (type A) to the ProPointPlus USB port (type B) on the underside of the display cassette. TYPE A TYPE B USB TYPE B NOTE: It is important the USB A to B cable is connected after the ProPointPlus is powered as the system will attempt to draw full power from the USB port. Likewise to shut down the unit, ensure the USB connection is disconnected first. N Issue 5 Page 16 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

17 7.4 Operating ProView.exe ProView.exe does not require any installation, run ProView.exe. ProView.exe will open automatically connect to the ProPointPlus unit. If it does not, re-move and re-connect the USB cable. Once connected the ProView.exe software will automatically open the default internet browser connecting the ProPointPlus. If this does not happen right click on the ProView.exe icon on the lower right hand tool bar and click connect. Once the internet browser has connected to the ProPointPlus the engineer can begin to commission the unit. 7.5 ProPointPlus Web Page Overview The commissioning software display is based on a scrolling webpage which initially shows the top of the page, representing the first page or screen, known as the Home Page. The Home screen shows the Fire and Smoke levels of all the connected pipes, in this case one pipe. The current Fires and Faults are shown under the Detector Status title bar below the dials. 18 7.6 Access level codes To enable editing the settings the engineer is required to enter an engineering access level code. Click on the key icon to the left of the display to prompt the screen below. Enter the engineer access level default code and click to enter. Providing the code is correct the following message will appear. If the code is incorrect the following message will appear. 7.7 Setting the Date and Time Click on the clock icon on the left of the display. Ensure you are logged in to enable editing the time. Editing is completed by selecting the year, month, day and time. Select the year by navigating using the >> & << arrows, the month is set by navigating the > & < arrows, followed by selecting the correct day. Rotating the clock hands or pressing the + and symbols to set the correct time. N Issue 5 Page 18 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

19 7.8 Sensitivity Settings Click the sensitivity settings icon commissioning the sensitivity settings. to the left of the display. Ensure you are logged in to enable Refer to section 6.8 for descriptions of each sensitivity level. 7.9 Commissioning Airflow and Blower Speed Click the airflow icon on the left of the display. Ensure you are logged in to enable commissioning of airflow and blower speed. The display shows the current airflow for each pipe. N Issue 5 Page 19 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

20 7.9.1 Zero the Airflow To zero the airflow, ensure all pipe configurations have been installed and the blower speed is set to the required airflow rate to correspond with the calculated transport time. Once the blower speed is set, wait approximately 5 minutes to allow the airflow to stabilise. The airflow can then accepted by selecting Zero Airflow readings. The acceptable fault tolerance area is displayed on the dial in green; therefore any reading in the red area generates a fault. The airflow fault is generated within 5 minutes, typical 3 minutes starting once the airflow reading is out of tolerance - in the red. NOTE: Any commission with the fault tolerance set to greater than 20% will not comply with EN54: Part Airflow Fault Ignore The airflow of any pipe can be ignored by checking the relevant Ignore box. An airflow ignored fault is generated to ensure the user does not leave the system in a non-monitored state Airflow Fault Latch The airflow fault can be configured to either latch or non latch. The default state is to non latch. To enable airflow latching select the Airflow Faults Latch box, vice versa to disable. Once enabled the airflow faults will latch and can be only be cleared by selecting either Clear Airflow Faults or re-zeroing the airflow by selecting Zero Airflow Reading. The airflow can also be cleared by resetting the zero airflow using the units menu, refer to section 6.6. N Issue 5 Page 20 of 30 Protec Fire Detection PLC 2015

21 7.10 I/O Settings Click the I/O settings icon to the left of the display. Ensure you are logged in to enable commissioning the I/O settings. Ensure you are logged in to enable editing system text. The system text menu allows the user to customise the text of the ProPointPlus unit and each pipe. When using the web sever as a remote display the system text allows quick visual aid to the area / zone to which the detector pipes are monitoring. Ensure you are logged in to enable editing system The information section is where all the details of the installation site, manufacturing data, and commissioning data is input and stored. Scroll down using the down icon to the service information menu. The service information shows various parameters which monitor data to indicate if any servicing requirements are nesscessary. The user and engineer access level codes can be changed to a custom number of digits ranging from 1 to Networking Click the networking icon to the right of the display. Ensure you are logged in to enable editing the network data. Refer to section for where to connect the network cable. The network menu displays: Protec Loop serial number. Protec address for each pipe assigned by the Protec fire panel IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway either automatically assigned by network or manually input for fixed addressing Event log, Real Time and Historic Graph Click the graph icon to the right of the display, continue clicking on the icon to scroll through the event log, real time data graph and historic data graph. 24 Event Log The ProPointPlus stores all fire, faults and events in the event log. The event log can store a maxium of 256 events. Once the maxium number of events is reached, new events are stored while the oldest events are removed (FIFO). To view all events, click and hold on the event log list and move upwards to scroll, vice versa to scroll down. To clear the event log select the Clear Event Log button. To save a copy of the event log select Save Event Log button. This will save the event log to a.csv document which can be opened using Microsoft Excel Real Time Graph The ProPointPlus displays a graph of the optical value in real time (10 miniute display). 25 Historic Graph The ProPointPlus displays a historical graph of the optical (OP) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) values. To save memory; in normal condition the graph is updated every 4min, in a sudden rise of optical/co the graph updates every 10secs. The plots are viewable for each pipe by selecting the tabs shown top left of the plot. The display can be zoomed IN and OUT using the updates the time and signals values to the point selected. buttons. Selecting a point on the graph To clear the graph select the Clear Graph button located top right of the plot. To save a copy of the the graph select the Export to CSV button located top right of the plot. This will save the graph data to a.csv document which can be opened with Microsoft Excel Hardware Configuration The ProPointPlus detector can be configured to a 1, 2, 3 or 4 pipe unit. Any change to the number of pipes therefore either addition or removal of SCD devices requires a re-commission of the unit. The unit must first be powered down and physically configured to the required state of operation, re-supply the power and ignore any faults that may occur prior to saving the hardware configuration. To save the device configuration, scroll to the bottom of the commissioning screen and select the save Hardware Configuration button. To confirm the last configuration has been successfully saved the following message will appear. Saving the hardware configuration re-initialises all the current devices on the unit. 26 7.17 TCP/IP Connection Providing the ProPointPlus has been setup with an IP address and connected to the local network, the menu control screen can be viewed on any networked display. 1. Connect the PC/network display to the local network 2. Open the web browser application program 3. Type the ProPointPlus IP address into the browser address bar. 4. The PC/network display will now connect to the ProPointPlus unit Network Cable Routing When the network is connected permanently the cable must be routed from the socket between the hinge arms and under the fan housing / SCD clips. 27 7.18 Loading the firmware The following instructions are to update the ProPointPlus with a new version of firmware. 1. Turn off the power supply to the ProPoint Plus unit. 2. Run ProView.exe and connect the USB cable from the PC to the ProPointPlus. Refer to section 10.3 and The ProView.exe window console will display Connected to bootloader. 4. Select Detector tab and selection Change update firmware. 5. Select the Select new file button and browse for the require firmware file (.hex). 6. Select the Write button to start the transferring the firmware. 7. Once complete, disconnect the USB cable. 8. The ProPointPlus will now set to default. Therefore various faults will be displayed. The systems now requires a save configuration and zero the airflow values, refer to sections 5.6 & 5.13 for display menu editing or sections 10.5 and for web page editing Loading the Webpage The following instructions are to update the ProPointPlus with a new version of web page software. 1. Run ProView.exe and connect the USB cable from the PC to the ProPointPlus. Refer to section 10.3 and Connect to the ProPointPlus. If a web browser is open close it. 3. Select Detector tab and select Update UI. 4. Browse for the require web server update file (.iff). 5. Once selected the file will be transferred. 28 8.0 Maintenance 8.1 Cleaning the Airflow Filters Due to the continuous airflow through the SCD detectors the filters can accumulate dust, dirt and lint etc. As such, these should be cleaned on a regular basis to prevent airflow faults from developing. Depending on the environment this may need to be more frequent and should be evaluated at commissioning and each service visit. Dust/Lint Filter Dust/Lint Filter Lower hole to visually inspect To clean the detectors, remove the power supply to the unit, remove the front cover and unscrew the two captive screws holding the display cassette in position, swing open the display cassette. Remove an SCD and remove the two air filters from each side. Clean the filters by removing any loose dust with a soft brush. Inspect inside the lower hole of the SCD, viewing the two thermistor components, if absolutely necessary clean with soft brush, these components are fragile and must remain upright for correct operation. Two thermistor components to visually inspect Re-assemble the filters, replace the Scatter Chamber Detector (SCD) in position. Secure the two captive screws and replace the front cover. 30 10.0 General Cabling Requirements All wiring associated with the system must conform to the current Wiring Regulations, and cabling must conform to the relevant National Standards Specifications. Recommended cable separation for electromagnetic compatibility in buildings must be followed. Where screened cables are used it is important to ensure that screen continuity is maintained between cable segments. Any screen wiring in the panel enclosure must be sleeved and securely bonded to the continuity block.
